Sunday March 4th 2002
We were woken up at around 6am, we had to get ready fairly quickly in order to catch our bus at 7am to Changi Airport, everyone got ready and we headed down to reception to check out and wait for our bus.
The bus arrived about 5 mins late, we had a 52 seater coach for 4 of us, a little over the top I think. We set off for Changi Airport about 10 mins late, but being a Sunday morning, there was hardly any traffic on the road, the journey lasted about 15 minutes, we got to Changi Airport at 7:30am and headed straight for check in, we checked in our bags then proceeded straight through passport control. Once the other side the shops were beginning to open, so it was time to go spend the remaining Singapore dollars I had left, no good back home in England eh! My mum and sister went and sat down whilst my dad and me went shopping, checked out the music store, got the soundtrack to ‘Ali – The Movie’ After buying the cd I went to subway to get a feed, I were starving so opted for the ‘footlong with cheese and onion and a bottle of Kiwi Strawberry ‘Snapple’

After looking around Changi Airport for a while the time had come when our flight was ready for boarding, so we headed for to the gate ‘C22’ I looked outside to see our aircraft, G-BYGF with my favourite world tail ‘Chelsea Rose’ I was getting excited now, we were called for boarding, we were given the 4 bulkhead seats towards the back, so bit of leg room for me.

An hour passed and the captain made an announcement about some technical difficulties with the rear cargo door, great a delay, but announced that the IFE would be turned on and sandwichs will be served. We sat on the ground for another 2 hours before the captain announced we would be pushing back soon once the fuelling had finished, YAY finally going home, we pushed back at 12:25pm only 3 hours late, the captain again made announcement this time to say it would be a fairly quick taxi and no hanging around at the runway, cool a rolling take off, we had to get out of Changi Airport by 12:30pm as it was closing for the Changi Airshow, if we didn’t get out we would have been stuck there for another 24 hours, anyway we got off the ground in time, I do love those rolling take offs, we got airborne and headed out towards India.
2 hours into the flight it was dinner time, we had beef lasagne for our first dinner it was bloody lovely, nice cold beer to go with it, I switched on the IFE and noticed we were only flying at 28000 feet with a strong head wind (84mph) slowing us down to 470mph, the captain took the aircraft up to 40000ft where our speed increased to a much faster 540mph with a slower head wind of 29mph, another 2 hours passed and it was time for another feed, this time you could go to the galley and help yourself to sandwichs, pot noodles (the singapore equivalent anyway) and chocolate bars, at this time there was still around 6 hours to go on the flight, man was I starting to get bored now.

About 3 hours before landing at LHR we were served our last meal, Thai Chicken Curry, it was the nicest inflight meal I have ever tasted, I watch a bit more TV before the captain announced that we had began our descent into London Heathrow, the weather outside was starting to look like London now, dark clouds, weather at London was -4 degrees, not bad compared to the +36 we left behind in Singapore, we had also made up a fair bit of time as we were only running 20mins late, not as we were just under 3hrs late leaving Singapore, we finally began final approach and were landing on 09L leaving us a nice long taxi to terminal 4, our arrival time was 16:50 local time.
