Got a bit of spare time so I thought I'd submit this:
At the beginning of August I felt like a day out with my Mum, so I checked out BA
.com and booked a couple of tickets for a day trip to Berlin. Outbound on the BA982 (dep LHR
0855) and returning on BA987 (dep TXL
2000). At the time of booking I managed to pre-assign myself 3A and 3C
on BA982, preferable due to the Airbus configuration with the mini B seat allowing for more room. On the 757 return flight we had 6A

We were dropped off on the main departure ramp and from where it was easiest to go through main departures. We picked up our boarding passes from the self-service check-in for both our outgoing and return sectors and I managed to change our seats to row 1 for the outbound trip.
We headed through the Fast Track security line leaving a mass of crowd on our starboard side and made for the Terraces lounge.
We picked up some breakfast and a bite to eat and before long our flight was being called. We made the short walk past the bmi lounges where we told we were boarding by bussed out to remote stand. I picked up a paper as the boarding process was bound to take a little longer than previously expected. We were bussed round in the depths of Terminal 1 before finding our A319. Boarding was through the back door and I made my way right to the front of the aircraft.
I settled into 1A as everyone else boarded, some couples chatting, other business people flicking through papers and finally the doors closed and we pushbacked. We took off from runway 27L and banked round to the north and over the North Sea. Before long our Club Europe breakfast was brought round, unfortunately service started from the rear of the cabin so I ate last!
After the meal was taken away the cabin service director saw my copy of teh Times, unread in the mini-seat and asked if she could take it to the galley to read. I thought this was quite funny, but not really something that should be seen. The flight all too quickly began to descend towards Berlin and we banked right round landing from the east. As we deboarded all the passengers heading back to Heathrow could be seen in the little cattle pen

We caught the rather efficient Tegel Express bus from Unter der Linden back to Tegel airport and arrived much sooner than expected, with almost an hour before boarding.
Terraces lounge is landside and close to the entrance to the airport and BAs gates and check-in are beside the gate, so we made our way up the stairs and with our already printed boarding passes got into the lounge.
The Terraces lounge at Tegel is one of the best outside London and doesn't disappoint. Great decor, a good choice of continental beers and nice views over the city and part of the apron. The only downside being lack of bathroom, for which (thanks to the Diners Club lounge bathroom being closed too) meant I had to venture into the depths of the airport.
I helped myself to a couple of beers from the fridge and played waitor for my mother as people came in and out of the lounge at quite regular intervals. A call was made for our flight and a BA
representative went with us from the lounge and took us to the front of the masses waiting for security. As we passed through the first boarding call was made and my mother and I took our seats in 6A
and 6C as a crowd of rather dishevelled passengers passed on their way back to the higher row numbers.
The flight pushbacked on time and we experienced ond of those infamous 757 sporty takeoffs! The Club Europe cabin was rather full for an evening weekend flight, seventeen passengers all told, several of whom were businessmen from the Far East attending a conference.
The sun was setting soon after we took off producing a spectacular view out of the window......well not that spectacular to some you see on here
A rather nice dinner of prawn salad with Tiramisu was served and after a day of walking round Berlin it was hard not to turn down a couple of bottles of Piper. As one would expect I was served once again thanks to service beginning in row 1 on this flight! I can't win!
I spent the remainder of the flight filling out an inflight survey and looking back over the photos I had taken during the day.
We were treated to a rather nice overview of London as we landed on the northern runway and passed through immigration without a hitch and as hoped our driver was there waiting for us to whisk us home...
Overall a great day out. Flights were very well operated and I got to try out a couple of BA
's best lounges. Despite the timings of the flights I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Berlin for the day again and felt that in the short time I was there I got an awful lot done.
