We arrived at the airport about 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to departure. Being an AAdvantage Gold member, I proceeded directly to an empty Business Class check-in counter with my family. The agent inspected our passports and tickets. After some time, she issued our boarding passes. The agent also priority tagged (with Business Class) our bags to Hong Kong.

Immigration and Security
Immigration and security were smooth since the lines were short. With no lounge access, my family and I shopped around the duty free shops. The stores were crowded, but they still managed to serve every customer.

The ground staff first welcomed Business Class and oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members to board. Finally, the Economy Class passengers were invited aboard. At the door, the flight attendants welcomed us aboard and pointed us in the direction of our seats.

The aircraft was an Airbus A330-300 with 44 Business Class and 267 Economy Class seats. Economy Class was 2-4-2 abreast with a seat pitch of about 31"/32". Each seat was equipped with a seatback PTV with Airshow playing during boarding.

Before Take-Off
The flight attendants passed out headsets and immigration forms to passengers. Afterwards, the Captain and Inflight Service Manager made their individual welcome announcements. The safety demonstration video was played, and we waited on the taxiway for some planes ahead of us to take-off.

After Take-Off, Meal, and During Flight
A flight attendant walked around the cabin with the duty free catalog. A quick meal service had begun from the front and back of the Economy Class cabin. The meal was simple and included a pork sandwich and a packaged wet towel. Beverages, including hot tea and coffee, were served. I flipped around the channels and watched Friends for the remainder of the flight.

Prior to Landing
After we begun our descent for Hong Kong, the flight attendants collected the headsets. They performed the last safety check and returned to their jumpseats.

After Landing
After our landing, we took the longest time to taxi to our gate. Fortunately, our plane docked at one of Cathay Pacific's preferred gates, so the walk to Immigration wasn't too bad. However, the lines at Immigration for foreigners were crazy. However, everything went smoothly, and our bags were the first to arrive on the carousel.

I enjoyed the short hop on one of Asia's finest airlines. The service was professional and excellent; however, I feel that the meal could've been improved. It was also be nice if I could earn AAdvantage miles on more Cathay Pacific fares.

The flight arrived 1 minute behind of schedule.

My family and I arrived to a nearly empty Aisle B. Two Cathay Pacific agents were greeting passengers and directing them to the correct check-in counter. They glanced at my AAdvantage Gold card and guided me to an empty Business Class check-in counter. The agent at the counter issued our boarding passes and priority tagged (with Business Class) our bags to Taipei.

Immigration and Security
The wait for immigration and security checks wasn't too bad. We had a little bit of time to kill, and Hong Kong International Airport was a shopping paradise for my mom and grandmother. They spent our remaining Hong Kong Dollars and made a couple swipes of my dad's credit card. I'm always impressed when I visit Hong Kong International Airport.

After taking the train to the outlying gates, we headed to our gate. They had already begun boarding, so we joined the line. The flight attendants welcomed us aboard and pointed us in the direction of our seats.

The aircraft was a Boeing 777-200 with 45 Business Class and 291 Economy Class seats. Economy Class was 3-3-3 abreast, and each seat was equipped with a PTV. Like my last flight, Airshow was playing on the PTV during boarding. A new headset had been placed inside my seat pocket.

Before Take-Off
The flight attendants were getting into business before the doors even closed. The first passed out blankets to the passengers who wanted them. Another flight attendant walked around taking duty free orders. I ordered a set of Cathay Pacific plane magnets, and she took my credit card with her. We were on the ground for a while, so the flight attendants passed out arrival forms for Taiwan.

I had three seats in the middle to myself. However, when the door closed, a man asked if he could move into the other empty aisle seat. I agreed, and he moved his belongings very quickly. The safety video was played, and we began our taxi for the runway.

After Take-Off, Meal, and During Flight
A short while after take-off, my duty free item and credit card arrived. Unusually, my Citi AAdvantage MasterCard wouldn't swipe, so the flight attendant asked if I had a different credit card. This was definitely the first time my credit card failed on me. Fortunately, I had 50 HKD left, so I paid for my item with cash.

A cart was pushed from the front and the back, and we were served a pork sandwich. It tasted good, but the proportions didn't seem like I was getting my money's worth. I was pondering the thought of getting a second sandwich, but I decided against it.

After Landing
After disembarking, my parents went to pick up some duty free items. I joined the foreigners' line to enter Taiwan. It was probably the slowest line, but it still moved. When my family and I went to the carousel, our bags were already spinning on the belt.

The flight was smooth and short. It was my first Boeing 777 flight, and it was definitely too short. I enjoyed the power of the twin-engine jet, and the Boeing Signature Interior did make the cabin seem more spacious. At least, the cabin felt more spacious after the bins were pushed up. The service was excellent, and I'll definitely fly Cathay Pacific again if I get the chance.

How will you compare the 2 kinds of aircraft of CX?

Nice report,thanks for posting.

Just 1 question. I'd have thought the AAdvantage Gold card would have gained you access to the CX lounge,my BA Exec Silver seems to get me in any Oneworld lounge.....

Unfortunately, AAdvantage Gold is only oneworld Ruby, which grants no lounge access. I think BA Silver is oneworld Sapphire.
