The day started for me at 8:15 A.M. I had a long night at work, so I got only 5 hours
of sleep. My cab arrived at 9:00 A.M. and I was on my way. At GPT
, I checked in and
went to the Gulf Grille and had french toast and hashbrowns, along with a free coffee
that the guy gave me. I read for a little bit, then went through security, and to Gate 1A
to wait for departure. Our old livery DC-9-30 pulled in, unloaded its human cargo, and
loaded us. A standard NWA flight, pretzels and soda, landed in MEM
at Gate something
(Sorry, I dont remember) but it was on B Concourse and headed to Gate B27, ironic,
I also used this gate on this same trip to come home, thats why I remember it. Anyway,
we used the same flight number but a different plane, kinda odd. We had a great view
of Chicago and neighboring Wisconsin on landing. Came in over Des Plaines, and into
Wow, it has really changed. I arrived into E-Concourse, and let me tell you, if you miss
the Detroit Davey Terminal, come on over here, it is no different. Nasty, outdated facility.
Saw the infamous Gate F11 (Also called the cussword plus the gate number). If you
ever flew ACA
as United Express, you know what I am talking about. Concourse G was
an improvement, AEagle takes care of their terminal. Concourse H and K was simply a
trip down memory lane, where my aviation interest began, with a DC-10 flight to BOS
1988. It is clean, well kept, and the signing is being updated. Concourse B and C were
also well kept, United has a good facility there, and that tunnel was really the highlight of
this day for me, I could stand down there for hours. Well, after 3 hours of wandering the
corridors of O’Hare, I left to go spend the evening and next day with my Aunt nearby in
Des Plaines. We had a good visit, chatting about the good ole days and got lunch during
my short visit. The next day.....
I woke up to the sound of jet engines, this is “Airport City” as we are under the O’Hare
flight paths. Spent the day with my Aunt, and went to O’Hare for the slingshot trip back
across the Midwest. The security lines at ORD
suck, they need more checkpoints. I boarded
this DC-9-30 and sat in Exit Seat 12A. I was exhausted, and tried to sleep through the
engine start and safety demo, no luck, the soccer team was too busy chatting it up in the
back rows. This was another standard flight, nothing special to see but farmland, ughh...
Arrived into MEM
at B14, the gate where my DC-9 had to be “jacked up” a few years
back (Tire problem).
We took off and had a great view of MEM
, then I drifted off to sleep, or at least, tried too.
My eyes were wide awake as I tried to find the familiar sights of my Homeland, and we landed
at Good ole GPT
. Excellent trip, I give NWA a 10/10.
