As I had just became elite, I got cleared into first for two of my three flight segments, which was awesome! We pushed back just prior to departure after I had a glass of oj pre-departure, and the f/a did their demos. We took off about 10 or 15 minutes past 11 towards the east and made the climb up above 30000 feet for the smooth 3 hour and 19 minute flight to IND. F/A's began front service with mixed nuts or spinzels and a beverage followed by lunch, which was a choice between a chicken dish or penne pasta with sun-dried tomatoes. My neighbor and i both had the pasta. It wasn't bad. He had been upgraded as well so like me he was just happy to have the extra legroom. Coach also got meals on this flight. Dessert was this delicious chocolate cake which was just awesome! I have always had good desserts on NW when in first (just once or twice before) and this continues that lineage. Seatmate and i had lengthy conversation about how sad we were that Michigan had lost the Rose Bowl. Like me, he was still in shock about the loss. Anyhow, it was cloudy and rainy upon arrival into IND, a very different look than on 12/23 when i connected in the hours after that huge midwestern blizzard. However, once in the terminal things were strikingly similar in that my connection, both times to DTW, was late. Flight 206 was as close to a perfect flight as you can get. Our Airbus and LAX-based crew were turning around and headed to Las Vegas.
Indianapolis (IND) to Detroit Metro (DTW)

Scheduled departure time: 643pm
Actual departure time: 807pm
Scheduled arrival time: 756pm
Actual arrival time: 908pm
Departure gate: Gate A8(IND)

Indianapolis was a cluttered mess this Sunday evening...there weren't even enough agents to work all the gates-- 2 or 3 for the 4 gates (A5-A8) with flights departing at time to MSP, RDU, and DCA. The poor frazzled agents couldn't even muster up the correct spelling on departure boards, which read "WASHINTON," "RALEIGH DURHAM" and later on, "PHILADELPHIS" Anyhow, after the late departure to DCA which left out of A8 but using the staircase down to the tarmac, it was discovered that some of the flight attendant call buttons were'nt operational causing an undetermined delay. People had connections to make in DTW, and some people gradually were losing their connection opportunities. At the time I boarded I wasn't sure if I'd make mine. The f/a's did no pre-departure service, and did not do any service once we were airborne on the 43 minute flight up to DTW because the pilot kept them seated for the whole flight. It was sorta bumpy but not that bad. Arrived to DTW to find similar weather there, about 40 degrees and damp. Not really rainy, but just damp. Plane continued onto Washington-Dulles.
Detroit Metro (DTW) to Hartford (BDL)

Departure gate: Gate A23(DTW)

Barely made this flight-- I was the last one to get on and within a minute of me getting on this flight they shut the door and we were underway on our flight. After we got into the line for takeoff the captain came on to announce a flight time of 1 hour and 19 minutes to Hartford. Before we knew it, we were airborne and getting spinzels and drinks... passed over upstate New York before coming into Connecticut and descending into the Hartford Windsor Locks airport, where we pulled into gate 5 in the new A terminal wing. My long day of travels wasn't without delay, but after all is said and done, i'm on-time into Hartford.
Another fine job by the avaition professionals at Northwest.
