Last December In The Philippines

Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:24 am

Not all trips occur on fancy aircrafts, sometimes it is enjoyable to ride on oldies.
This was a nice escapade from Manila and our destination was a beautiful island of the Philippines.
26/12/2004 Manila-Busuanga South East Asian Airlines LET 410 RP-C2328 0.57 minutes.

Before departing Manila, an FA demonstrated the usual security stuff and deplaned.
Had a smooth flight on the LET aicraft where different finger food has been provided before departure.
On the way to Busuanga Airport on Coron Island, the view of the Indian Ocean is wonderful.

Our destination from above looks promising.

30/12/2004 Busuanga- Manila South East Asian Airlines LET 410 RP-C2328 1.07 minutes.
After a couple of wonderful days, we went back to the airport.

We had to wait a couple of hours for our flight back to Manila. Luckily, an unusual visitor arrived to load fresh fish destined to Manila.

The same LET that brought us in Busuanga came to carry us back.

Great report man.

For those who are not familiar with the Philippines, Coron is one of the islands of the Busuanga group of Islands in the north of the bigger island of Palawan, which is an island located south west of Manila the capital. gosh that was a mouth full.

Anyways, its a very nice resort and offers GREAT scuba diving.

Its not the Indian Ocean rather its either the South China Sea or Sulu Sea.

A couple months ago, I flew from Manila to Virac, Catanduanes on Asian Spirit. The aircraft had to be at least 30 years old.

Was it the YS-11A?

Interesting report - in January this year, I flew from Manila to El Nido, Palawan in some rickety old Dornier aircraft operated by Soriano Aviation - in fact there is a pic on the db of it....

Last July I also went to Caticlan/Boracay but I used South East Asian Airlines DH7. We had a wonderful/terrible (depends from the point of view) landing in Caticlan but the trip overall was enjoyable. The trill of landing/departing from those primitive airports is indescribable.

I flew Manila - Caticlan/Boracay roundtrip via Asian Spirit.

It is indeed great fun, and Boracay was fantastic with

unbeatable snorkeling!!!

Nice report....ahhhh the memories.

Great trip report!

How's the reservations and ticket prices on Philippines' domestic airlines? Is it OK to book the tickets once you're in Philippines? Because I was looking at Asian Spirit's website and they have 2 sets of prices, one for foreign booking (in US$) and one for domestic booking (in Philippines Pesos), and the price difference is quite significant.

Well, regarding the domestic prices in the Phils. it´s quite simple...

The published US$ prices are valid in case you book your flight through a travel agency outside the Philippines.
So, the prices in PHP are (basically) only for sale in the Phils.

But!!!
If you book your flight online via the airline´s respective website (if they offer that) you will only pay the PHP fare. Your credit card will be charged in PHP and your bank will convert the amount to your local currency depending on the day´s actual exchange rate.
So, it makes sense to book online or in case you want to fly on an airline without online booking possibility to book after arrival in the Phils.

Last year i made a short trip Manila-Clark-Manila outbound on SEAIR and back on Asian Spirit. I bought the resp. one-way tickets almost a day before departure and i paid on SEAIR ca. 15,-USD and on Asian Spirit ca. 20,-USD (all incl. tax)
As far as i know the following airlines offer online booking facility: Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines.
Asian Spirit and SEAIR offer booking only with a booking request and after payment the tickets can be picked up at the departure airport on date of flight.
I miss the sound of rolls royce darts and speys

A very good report, MD95.  Smile It's good to hear some A.netters visit Boracay and enjoy it a bit. Thankfully my family is just south in Iloilo province in Panay (the major island that's a stone's throw away from Boracay itself) so all we have to do is drive...though I'd prefer flying compared to the windy roads....the memories of carsickness... crazy

N751PR,

I was twice in Iloilo City (my first Ex´s family comes from Banate, on the road to Barotac Viejo) and I did the road trip to Kalibo (and Caticlan / Boracay) twice. Actually I liked the road (I did a bit of driving my ex brother-in-law´s jeepney).

Garuda

If you plan to fly in a nice resort area as Boracay and Palawan during holiday periods it's advisable to book your trip quite in advance. Sometimes you find a place to stay but not a ride. And if you can use a Philippine travel agent, it's even easier.  old
