Getting Engaged In The Plane 2 Did It!

Sun Apr 24, 2005 2:25 pm

I'm hoping this does not get moved to the report trips forum.
Girlfriend was in GDL for business so I decided to visit her for the weekend, took everything with me, ring, and champagne. On the return trip,an AM MD-87, I change the tickets to C instead of Y . I had bought a bouquet of 18 red roses, which I told the girlfriend were for my mother. Due to last minute cell call to girlfriend I got on the plane first and told the purser my plans. She seemed very happy and even cheery about it. So halfway through the flight, (one hour) I got up, ask for the PA, and made my announcement. Something like, XXXX please accept my engagement ring. I returned to my seat and at the point when she said yes I put the ring on her and that's when the purser brought the flowers and the champagne. Great moment for me and great moment for her as she was crying (of happiness, hopefully) All passengers, both in C and Y clapped and the captain came out to wish us the best and the purser announded the answer on the PA. There was no corny thing as kneeling etc..
I hope you have comments or questions

Hawk21m

The passengers reacted pretty cheerfully as far as I could notice. I had with me little letters of apology to those who might be bothered though, but I did not used them.

When we were deplaning, some came over and congratulated us.

AR385, that was a really romantic and sloppy thing to do. Congratulations on pulling it off and I hope you both enjoy a long and happy life together.

Well done!! I nearly did that, too, on a flight from LAX to Hawai`i. I changed my mind (in her favor), and waited until Maui. It worked out for me too!!
Congratulations!!

I never saw the "airline" situation, either on the American or European versions, but must have been pretty similar. As I said on another e-mail, I wanted to combine my two loves on the same experience. Flying an airliner and her. Seems to have worked. But it took planning and luck

Not only this was a very special moment for you and your fiancee but I also think that it was a very nice moment for all the PAX.

In these days, not enough happy moments such as this one.

I wish the best from Luxembourg!

That was such a sweet thing to read! Sometimes I get a bit upset about the A vs B arguments on a-net, and such a little story doesn't only mean the world for you, AR385, but also makes the day for us (well, for me anyway)! Congratulations, and thanks a lot for sharing this special moment of yours!

Cheers

ZKEOJ.

Thankyou very much for your kind words. It does mean the world to me because it feels like I am opening a new blank book to be filled on the story of my life. As I said before, I was able to combine two of my loves and I had some luck as everything went well. I did not bother any of the passengers and the cabin crew were really, really nice and accomodating. And, many of my fellow a.netters liked it, which was another nice surprise!

congrats AR385... glad to hear she accepted.

I too involved my hobby when asking. My now wife was entering the JetBlue baggage claim at JFK, I was there to pick her up. As she approached, I held up a sign like the limo guys do but this one asked her to marry me. she thought i was joking so I got down on one knee, blah, blah.
Anytime i can involve my interest in airlines, i do.
