BDL-DTW-BDL On Northwest

Mon May 09, 2005 12:23 pm

Here is my brief trip report from my trip back to Michigan for my sister's graduation from U of M last weekend. Its brief because the flights were pretty standard and uneventful.... enjoy!

Friday, April 29
Hartford (BDL) to Detroit Metro (DTW)
Northwest 275
Airbus A320SR
Scheduled departure time: 407pm
Actual departure time: 357 pm (wheels up at 408pm)
Scheduled arrival time: 607pm
Actual arrival time: 543pm
Departure gate: A5 (BDL)
Arrival gate: A10 (DTW)

My mom booked this flight using her miles, so it was coach for me - no silver elite upgrade (first class was full anyhow). However, I was fortunate on both flights to have a middle seat open which is always nice. They didn't do a pre-boarding for elites (only for 1st class) apparently because there were so many elites on the flight, which was about 70% full. Boarding went quickly and for wahtever reason the boarding door was shut 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure, which didn't bother me one bit. In typical Northwest fashion, the flgiht got off the ground right on schedule. Flight time ended up at about 1 hr, 30 minutes, which put us in Detroit almost half an hour ahead of schedule, which is phenominal. Flight continued (w/ different A320 at different gate) to SAN, and our a/c went to LGA. Was a Detroit-based crew.

Sunday, May 1
Detroit Metro (DTW) to Hartford (BDL)
Northwest 1184
Airbus A319
Scheduled departure time: 1037am
Actual departure time: 1037am (wheels up at 1057am)
Scheduled arrival time: 1211pm
Actual arrival time: 1210pm
Departure gate: A3 (DTW)
Arrival gate: A5 (BDL)

Flight came in from Chicago-Midway. 60% full flight, I'd say. After a long taxi, we took off for a 1 hour, 11 minute flight. Exceptional service in coach- snack basket was passed around (tray really). Customers had their choice of granola bars and spinzels and you could take basically whatever you wanted. And they came around a second time! I was just shocked- it was over and above what i expected. I had a granola bar and two packs of spinzels and i really appreciated the service the f/a's gave. Everyone from the gate agent to the ockpit crew was especially nice. Northwest always does a fine job IMO, but this flight really stuck out as a perfect display of service done well. We pull in and there is a flight to DTW leaving our gate - our plane was bound for Minneapolis (with a MSP-based crew).

Increadible job NW. Flighs on-time if not early, check in was quick, service was great, and of course DTW is the best airport in the country (the midfield terminal at least). Gotta hand it to Northwest on this one.

Good to see you had a nice trip. I certainly agree that the Midfield terminal (refuse to call it McNamara... sorry), is one of the nicest terminals in the country.
The New American is arriving.

Yes, always nice! but not good for NW, lol. They want to fill every seat, you know what I mean.

F/A teamwork must be there...
