Ride The Animal! TUL-DEN-SFO-DEN-TUL Pt. 1 (Pics)

Mon Jun 13, 2005 2:59 am

Hey everyone, this is my first trip report after lurking here for a long time enjoying the other reports. I didn't plan on doing a report but after looking at my shots I took, I figured I had enough to make one!  Smile This was my first time on Frontier and I must say I really enjoyed them and will look to them in the future! This was a trip out to see a friend and then spend a week roaming around to various airports in California to spot. This was my 3rd trip to do so since last September. I must say that I LOVE California!  Smile I had flown Southwest the other two trips, but looked to Frontier after they announced new service from Tulsa starting on May 22nd. They now operate two daily departures/arrivals to Denver through Horizon on CRJ-700s. I was able to snag a "New City Fare Sale" from their website for $221 round trip. I snagged that one as soon as I saw it, as it was cheaper than Southwest was on my last two trips. This was also my first trips on the CRJ-700 and A319, which I really enjoyed. The Live DirectTV offered is worth the 5 bucks as it really passed the time on the 2:20 flight from Denver to San Francisco. I know JetBlue offers it for free, but, well, we don't have JetBlue in Oklahoma...and the 5 bucks is worth it! Overall, I liked Frontier and will look to them again in the future! Now on to the shots!

June 1
Jet Express Flt. 4202
Tulsa-Denver
Depart: 7:10a CST Ontime.
Arrive: 7:50a MST Ontime.
Cruise: FL370
Equipment: CRJ-700
N602QX "Grizzly"

Morning lineup at Tulsa, my plane, N602QX and American 738, MD80, and 757. The 738 and 757 going to Dallas, and the MD80 going to Chicago. Sorry about the crappy reflections and low quality as it was dark and pouring down rain.

The other side, with a surprise Ted A320 also going to Denver, which is usally a United A319, and various Southwest aircraft.

Leaving behind storms in the Tulsa/Northern Oklahoma region.

One happy Grizzly looking over Pikes Peak as we approach Denver from the south, we would land on 8R.

June 1
Frontier Flt. 653
Denver-San Francisco
Depart:8:40a MST Ontime.
Arrive: 10:15a PST Ontime.
Cruise: FL370
Equipment: Airbus A319
N935FR "Otter"

Pushing back from Gate A53. A view of the busy Great Lakes ramp from seat 15A.

A Continental 738, winglet-flavor sitting at it's gate waiting for it's flight to Houston.

Company traffic pushing back.

475E (I think) that bypasses Denver. Heh, we took this for a shortcut to bypass downtown when we drove up for a hockey game in March up in Loveland. Watch out, she's a cashbox!

Downtown Denver.

The start of the foothills.

The Front Range of the Colorado Rockies.

Checking out the moving map as we pass Vail.

Oops! How'd that get on there!  Smile

I think these are in Nevada?

The California Sierras.

San Jose International Airport.

Mountain View/Moffett Field NAS. Note the Volga Dnepr An-124 on the ramp being dwarfed by the blimp hangars!

Whoa fella!

Passing Coyote Point, a somewhat OK spotting location.

About to touch down on 28R.

Slowing down as we cross 1R as a plane lines up for takeoff.

I hope you enjoyed! The return home in part 2!  Smile

Great report, looks like another satisfied Frontier customer!  thumbsup

Couple of small corrections though...

E-470...definitely a rip-off but sooooooo convenient!

DEN doesnt have an 8R, the E/W runways are oriented 7/25 and 8/26...

Still a great job though, awesome pics!

Thanks guys...E-470! That's it...I knew it had E and 47 in it.  Smile Also...it was the northerly E/W runway. We took off for SFO on the southerly one.

Loved it - excellent pics!

I'd never seen an on-board pic from F9, didn't realize they put the animals on there facing inward...that's awesome!

Moffett Field is a great place. I rode past there on the Santa Clara light rail on my way to Silicon Graphics old head quarters (now Google's) back in 2001. I do believe they filmed some parts of Pearl Harbor next to the blimp hangars.

Not the best trip report. . . but. . . GREAT!!! pics. I love your first one. TGIF burger with a side of jet? Really, some of the most realistic pics I've seen on these reports. And the CourtTV report on drunk pilots!

Wow!
