After my college exams had finished, I realised that I had a bit of money spare, so I took the decision to go to Paris for one day, using the flights between Exeter and Paris, which began in march of this year. So I started looking for fares, and the cheapest available were on the 20th July for £83.55. Not the cheapest possible, but a better deal compared than going from Bristol or into central London. The day arrived at it began at 4am by double checking I had everything with me such as passport, insurance documents and confirmation number. At 5am my friend knocked on the door and his father gave us a lift to the airport, which only took about five minutes. After dropping us off outside the terminal building we went to the queue for the fly be check-in desks, which five people were patrolling. There were three flights in the morning checking in. There was ours to Paris, one to Malaga where the majority of passengers already in the queue were heading for and another to the Channel Islands. Exeter airport is fast becoming a important airport for the people of Devon and Cornwall. A recent announcement stated that there was a 71% increase in the number of passengers over the last year. Flybe has gradually increased the number of services offered from the airport, with new services to Murcia, Chambery and Geneva to start over the winter. After showing our passports to the girl on the desk, we were given our boarding cards.

Having agreed that it was too early to go through to departures we went upstairs to the viewing area at the airport. Whilst my friend had his egg and bacon sandwich I decided to take a couple of pictures of the airfield.

At that time I was unable to get a picture of our aircraft, it was to the right of G-STRI the view being blocked by the ATC tower. So we went through to departures and I quickly took a picture of the terminal area.
We walked through security and went up to the departure area. When the flight is called the passengers walk down the same corridor and turn left to get to the four gates. The departure area has seating for 400 passengers, duty free and a bar and a couple of passengers began drinking for AGP
, please note that this was at 5:50am.
There was an announcement for our flight at 06:05 where we were told to walk down to the gate area, where we waited for around ten minutes.
At 06:17 the flight was called and we were told to board the aircraft. However the gentleman ahead of me showed the dispatcher a driving licence for the flight. He was then told that you need a passport and responded by saying you can use you’re driving licence on all flybe flights. I was thinking then how could you muck things up when two seventeen year olds are perfectly able to know that you need a passport for you’re flight. He was told by the dispatcher to take a seat and I presume he was offloaded as he wasn’t on the flight. Although he messed up, how was he able to get past check in and get through to departures, so there was a big mistake there by the check in advisor there as well. We gave our boarding card to the dispatcher and we were told to use the front set of stairs. We then walked to the right onto the airfield and saw G-JEAK, a BAe 146-200 standing there to take us to Paris.
I sat down at 8F and found the seat pitch adequate, but the width was extremely tight. Also there was seat covers missing throughout the cabin and some graffiti. Of course flybe will be replacing these planes with Embraer 195 jets from next year.

I was sat for ten minutes on the gate, delayed because the gentleman with the driving licence had bags checked in. Once there were removed we pushed back around ten minutes behind schedule. We taxied to the runway, turned right and reversed onto the threshold of runway 26. We had to wait for clearance from London and we used three quarters of the 6833 runway and took off immediately towards the Channel Islands. The plane reached 10000 feet very quickly and up to our cruising altitude of 23000 feet. The cabin crew began their service of sandwiches, pastries and drinks. I decided to have a cup of PG
tips, priced at £1.70.
Once we reached the Channel Islands we made a left turn, and flew along the English Channel.
We were at the cruising altitude for only 25 minutes before we made a series of right hand turns to reach runway 27L 15 minutes ahead of schedule ahead of a bmi A320 and Aeromexico 767-200. We taxied to gate 17, on the satellite no.1, where we were the only aircraft on the pier. We stood inside the aircraft for over 10 minutes as there were problems with the airbridge. Once the doors opened we said goodbye to the crew, very good they were and quickly went to the toilet. Then we walked onto the escalator which went down, under and back up under one of the taxiways. I thought that the RER station was direct from the terminal, once we got landside, but we had to go downstairs to departures and get a transfer bus, which I was not aware of.

As the bus moved towards the RER station, we saw a A340-600 from SAA,TG & SQ
747-400 and two TAM A330-200. We were able to visit all of the sites and we arrived back at the airport at about 7:15. The check in, handled by servisair was near to where the bus from the RER stations stopped at. There was no queue at the desk, infact the agents were having a good chat in French. We were given our boarding passes and the flight would depart from the same gate that we arrived at.
We had a look of the arrival and departure boards and found out that the inbound service was 25 minutes ahead of schedule.
T1 is a horrible place to be. It was very unclean and no restaurants, just a couple of shops. I thought that LHR
was bad but this was completely ridiculous. I thought that the ties between AF
in the past would put them in place for a slot at terminal 2, but I was wrong.
After going up to immigration I bought some chocolates from the small duty-free shop, whilst my friend bought a ham and emmental sandwich for the flight. As he was trying to work out his French I took another picture of the terminal.
With not enough time to go for some food, we went back onto the escalator to the satellite for the flight. Each satellite in the terminal has its own baggage search and after this I decided to take some photos of the airfield.

There was also an Air France A318, ANA 747 and a SAS 737-600 and an unidentifiable A310. We then boarded the aircraft, the same as earlier about twenty minutes before and headed for seats 12E & 12F.
We were about to move forward from the gate when I saw the Lufthansa retro A321 land. I must get a picture of this I thought, sorry about the quality.

After the aircraft had arrived in Paris this morning, it had then made other trips to Leeds Bradford and Newcastle before returning to Paris to take us home. Once again we were the only aircraft on the pier; the RG
flight to SAO was due later in the evening. Once we had moved forward we began to move towards the same runway that we had landed earlier we went past a SAS MD
We continued to taxi and held outside of the runway to wait for two Embraer 145 jets, one from BA
and the other from BD
. Holding also alongside us was an Air Atlanta Cargo aircraft TF-ARP and behind us was an Aer Lingus A320. The pilot on this flight gave all of his announcements in both English and French and the cabin crew started their service. I purchased a BLT sandwich for £4.00, not bad it was. They were also trying to sell scratch cards and distributing landing cards for non-Europeans. We landed twenty minutes ahead of schedule on runway 26 and taxied directly to the gate. At immigration the officer told the non-Europeans to wait to the side until everybody else had passed. We went past the baggage area and exited to the arrival area where my mum as waiting to take me home.
My opinion of flybe after this flight is one that is very positive. They provided an effective and reasonably cheap service and I hope that they go from strength to strength, especially at Exeter. Thanks for reading my report, any questions or comments will be greatly received.
