I arrived at MKE way too early as it was the only time my friend chris could drop me off. I used the online check in and got my boarding pass. I boarded the plane around 6:00AM and took my seat. This 757 was very clean, but was beginning to show its age. The TV monitors were still in the ceiling, but as you know were deactivated. We pushed back at 6:35AM and taxied to Runway 19R and did a 75% power takeoff (Flight was not that full) and we still had a short takeoff roll. In-Flight Service consisted of Full Beverage Service and Good Sense Trail Mix. I had an Apple Juice and Trail Mix. About 30 minutes later, we started our descent into MSP and landed shortly thereafter. I deplaned and went to the ground transportation to begin my 20 day stint for NW... The 757-200 was about as loud as an MD-80.. Not very loud, but still louder than newer planes of today. Like I said above, the plane was very clean, but it was showing its age. Delivered in 1988, it was one of Northwest's first 757-251 aircraft.

Once again I arrived at MSP very early no thanks to NW scheduling me on a late flight.. I sat up in the D Concourse Obs Deck for a long time and had a good view of everything. Around 6:00PM I headed down to C16 and saw my plane taxi in and shut down the engines. We boarded at 6:55PM and I took my seat in 17A. This Aircraft was Very Clean and nice. Looked Brand New even though it is 2 years old. We pushed back and the engines started from A/C Right to A/C Left. The engines were VERY QUIET.. (But did not sound as good as the Rolls-Royce engines do). We taxied to the runway and did a 100% takeoff roll and had a very long takeoff roll. We had a very steep climbout (Steeper than the 757-200 was). This thing took off like a ROCKET!!! The Air Conditioning was VERY COLD, and it was a VERY QUIET takeoff... You could hear the engines but it sounded more like an insulated vacuum cleaner. You could barely hear them. Service was a Full Beverage Service and Good Sense Trail Mix. I had just an apple juice. Soon after we began our smooth descent into the MKE area and before I knew it we were on the ground. We landed on Runway 19R and taxied to the gate. I waited till everybody was off and got a few pics. The Captain made a very smooth flight and I made sure his crew got their kudos. It was then I determined I would Never go against this crew if they chose to go for more.

In my opinion, the 757-300 was 100X Quieter than the 757-200, and it was very clean. The Easyfit overhead bins were a nice touch. I would recommend flying NW.

Bummer! You didn't take YX over to MKE?  Wink Anyway, that was a very good report! I didn't realize that NW used B753s on the MSP-MKE route... I have also flown on a B752 and B753, on the MSP-LAX-MSP, and I agree that the B753 was quieter!

How do you know what the thrust settings were? What were you in MSP for?
