FLL-JFK On Song (long)

Thu Aug 18, 2005 1:13 pm

I woke up around 3 drove down to the airport caught the shuttle which was half empty and arrived at terminal 2 around 5 am no checked my bag after doing the self check in using the kiosk which was simple and kinda cool. Waited around for a few minutes then went through security and waited for my flight to depart at 6:40 am. I saw the crew arrive and noticed that we had a woman at the time I thought FO but later found out she was the captain, which I thought was cool. This was my first song flight so I was not sure what to expect, the agents were very friendly making comments about baggage and things like that. I boarded in zone 6 took my aisle seat, we pushed around 6:30 and had a nice smooth take off.

Shortly after take off I started playing around with the ptv's which I think are little bigger then B6's and have a nice touch screen feature, with games and trivia type stuff which I played later in the flight. My only problem with the TV’s was that only 4 or 5 channels actually showed programs not sure if this was because of the time or if they were just not working properly. The majority of the channels just played an infomercial for dish network so most of the channels you would normally watch did not have any shows on.

Another problem and a minor one is with food, due to the early morning flight I was not in the mood to have a buy on board meal so I passed and just got a beverage. Little did I know that was all you get if you pass on the menu I for sure thought you would at least get peanuts or something but nope so I was out of luck.

The best part of the flight was of course landing at JFK this being my first trip to JFK I was looking back and forth like crazy on our way to our gate we had a AA T7 pass in front of us and I also saw a few 747's out in the distance and a LY T7.

Now the worst part of the trip was DL's JFK terminal I just felt like it was very dirty and not very pax friendly. I go to get my baggage, which on the plane they were kind of enough to tell us that it would be on claim E IIRC sounds great, right? Except for the fact that DL put two more flights on this claim, which was the smallest claim so now you have 300 people fighting, and pushing each other trying to pull bags from god only knows what flight. It was a really nasty situation which lasted about 35 minutes with not one DL agent available to answer questions or voice concerns so that might earn a letter.

I then went and took the express bus to LGA to meet up with my family. Again, the DL terminal sucked but I still loved JFK because of this bus ride, we went from the DL terminal and stopped at every terminal before leaving JFK. However while driving around I was able to see the same LY T7 a SAA A340, another AA T7 and a UA T7 and an Air China 747. I also noticed that B6’s terminal was packed and looked great nice glass windows with jetBlue credit card banners displayed through the windows.

I know there is something I am leaving out but I will definitely be back at JFK soon, just not sure if it will be with Song. I am not song bashing the flight it self was great but I just did not care for the facilities at which I arrived hell that could be all of JFK I guess I will find out eventually.

Thanks Hawk

Are the passengers different at Song than Jetblue? Do you notice more elderly on Song and a younger crowd on Jetblue?

Also how were the FA's on Song? Young or Old? Positive attitude?

I would say about the same, on my way home I flew B6 home and had a business type person next to me and had several business types on my song flight.

I had a mix on both flights that I think is the kind of thing that destination determines I mean going in or out of Florida you are bound to have both elderly people with a mix of young families going for vacation.

They were very nice I did not have any of the very young looking FA's I have seen several time in the airport but I would say one was in her 30's while another one was a little older also the female captain was older and all had a very positive attitude which makes an early flight that much easier.

As far as B6 I had a mix today of two older FA's one a male and one a female then there was a young attractive blonde female that I would say was about 25

have a nice touch screen feature,

nice...but you do get your seat banged if you push too hard!

I agree with Hawk...having flown both airlines...however, on the BDL route DL is the only airline flying, so you have to get a mix.

Older, positive attitude, and not overly funny...

my only complaint is that they need to drop some of the humor, like the safety demo...their humorous safety demo doesn't cut it if you have no choice but to fly them!

Felt long lol, I think what happened was I was debating on if I should put my return into this report but ended up just starting another one.

Thanks, yeah the flight seamed full, lots of people around the gate before departure and the only empty seat around me was the middle seat behind my row.

Having flown both Song and JetBlue, who do you prefer?

Great report, by the way.
