LHR-ORK On Aer Lingus.

Tue Aug 30, 2005 1:21 am

Flight number: EI-713
Aircraft:A321
Reg:EI-CPC "St Fergus"
LHR-ORK
I had been looking forward to this trip home for many months and the day was finally here.
I got up nice and early had breakfast and woke my parents up. I got showered and dressed and grabbed my mobile. I had breakfast way to early so I was hungry by the time the taxi was here. While in the taxi I started reading the newspaper and came across the sad story on the many crashes that week (not best thing to be reading when your about to get on a plane).
The ride from Harrow to Heathrow was only forty minutes and we were soon walking to Terminal 1.
We made our way to the check-in desk and was directed to a fast pass machine by a young woman, I knew how to use the fast pass but she did it for us, we got seats altogether at row 32. We got our boarding pass and dropped off our bags.
I walked around and got a meal at Burger King.
I met my parents at WHSmiths and we walked down to security. After all the fuss at security it was very calm at the Gates. There was four Aer Lingus aircraft stood, our A321 was waiting for us at gate 90. It was a ten minute wait and we were called.

We boarded the middle door and I took my seat on row 32 and noticed two young children were going to be sat behind me. We pushed back on time and taxied for about 15 minutes to 09R. I was already being annoyed by the two children, we were taxing and they thought we were in the air, they were going to get a shock when we take off. We were stuck in the queue for another 5 minutes and the pilot was very sorry for the delay.
The aircraft rolled onto the runway and before we had even stopped on the it, the engines powered up and we were all pushed back into our seats. The two children soon became very quiet. Once in the air we made a sharp turn right, giving us a great view of Heathrow and a bird that passed my window. I stared at Heathrow and saw a British Airways A319 glide into the air after us.
Me and my family were told by a senior male flight attendant that he met the new boss Mr. Dermot Mannion he said in a strong Irish accent "he seems a decent guy and he is going to take this airline places, I am usually on the New York route but need to be closer to home, you know" I am not sure how trust worthy his story is but it was nice to have a chat.
Then we hit some violent turbulence that left some people very worried, the cabin crew were kind and reassuring.
Soon the Irish coast was in view and we made 4 sharp turns and the pilot said we were due for landing in 10 minutes.
We landed smoothly and walked into a very crowded Cork Airport 4 flights had all arrived at the same time and 3 of them were Aer Lingus the other was Eirjet and after a 45 minute wait for our bags. We left cork and saw the new terminal, it looks great!

Nice Report. Glad to hear the cabin crew were good. It must be difficult for ORK based crew to operate transatlantic now as there is no service from ORK to DUB. I remember flying the ORK-DUB route a few times and there were sometimes 10 or more cabin crew flying as PAX to DUB.

Thanks! Im waiting for my next flight in the winter I love Cork, it may be old but I like the views on take-off and landing and its a nice little airport. I will always fly Aer Lingus when I can they are getting better and its the little things that make an airline like Aer Lingus great to fly.
