ADL-KUL-MAN-KUL-ADL With Malaysian + Pics Part 2

Fri Oct 07, 2005 8:04 am

This is the homeward part of my England trip.

9 September 2005
MAN-KUL
MH11
Seat: 59K
Boeing 747-4H6 9M-MPO

Thought checking in early would beat the crowd, but many had the same idea as us.

There was a 20 min delay leaving Manchester.
While we were waiting a Viking MD-83 was seen.

Takeoff was again long.
There was a main meal where I chose the pasta and towards the end of the flight a light beef meal was served.
Usually I don’t sleep much on aircraft, but this flight I fell asleep after the first meal had been served and then woke up when we were about three hours out of Kuala Lumpur.
There were pockets of turbulence throughout the flight, but nothing major. Overall this flight was very uneventful, since I slept through most of it.
Unlike the other flights this flight was not full as myself and dad had a block of three seats to ourselves.
Only a few landing pics from this flight since it was a night and the window shades were down for most of the daylight part.

When taxiing to the gate in Kuala Lumpur an Iran Air 747-100 was seen parked out on the tarmac. First 747-100 I have seen.

10 September 2005
KUL-ADL
MH139
Seat: 33E
Boeing 777-2H6 9M-MRN

Although I did not have a window seat for this sector, that did not bother me because it was entirely at night and I was eager to get home. This flight was full.
Since I had not left the airport after getting off the MAN-KUL flight there was no check in queue but still had to go through a metal detector at the gate.

Takeoff was uneventful and after the meal was served I slept for a while. I am not interested in the movies, and being in the middle block of seats, there was not much else to do.
A lamb meal was served after takeoff and breakfast was a bread roll and a tub of yoghurt.

Few pics since I was in the middle seats and at night.
Landing back in Adelaide was smooth and some of the passengers clapped when we landed. I have never seen it happen before. I suppose they were glad to get home too.

Going through immigration at the old international terminal was a nightmare. Lots of people packed into a small area. Can’t wait for the new terminal to open.

Overall Malaysia Airlines have a very high standard of service. Food was of a high standard. Cabon crew were friendly and helpful.
I would fly Malaysia Airlines again.

Hi Ryan

Thanks for sharing your Malaysian experience, and hope you enjoyed your stay on this side of the world  Wink

A quote from you post in this trip report Iran Air, Boeing 747-100, Cologne-Cologne (w/pics)

Quoting Ryan h (Reply 2):

Canberra the 747-100 was a surprise for me I did not know Iran Air flew to Kuala Lumpur. Also while I was waiting to come home I also saw a Gulf Air A340 painted in a gold/white scheme.

Ryan h,

Could you tell me where the food in Y class is served from? Does it start from the front and go to the back? By what you saw, where is the best row for 4 people (yes, the middle 4 seats but front/behind the galley)?

Thanks

From what I saw the trolley started at the back.

I am not sure about the best spot for a group of four.

Personally I would opt for 2x2 behind each other since MAS' 777 layout is 2-5-2.

MAS777 I agree with that as I reckon the seats on the 777 are much better than the 747.
