After having spent a monotonious week from my 21 days holidays, i decided to make it and to fly, thing that i didn't make since 1996 when i went to Paris.
I hadn't enough patience to wait for a visa and all the requirements of the CEE countries, so i chose Turkey. In only few hours a booked a flight, prepared my luggage, informed my parents, and went to the airport. My father drove me although i didn't want him to do it. I bought a travelling stamp, because Tunisians have to pay about 35 Dollars every time they cross the borders, except if they travel to one of five countries forming the Maghreb Union, and then went to the check-in desk. The queue wasn't too long as i was three hours ahead of check-in deadline. I passed the police control and found my self following the instructions to reach gate 54, passing by duty-free shops and having a marvellous sight of all the traffic. There was three Airbuses from Air France, one to CDG
, one to MRS
and one to LYS
, an AB6 of Qatar Airways being prepared for returning home, an MD
-82 of Alitalia being handled for its flight to FCO
,and a Lybian 727 stuck in a bussed position delaying its flight to Benghazi by 2 or 3 hours. I saw my Turkish aircraft approaching Rwy 29. I was expecting an A310,A320,A321 or at least a B738, but i fastly realized that it was a 4Y0, TC
-JEY. It taxied to its gate and started being prepared for the flight back to home. It was midday hour and the scene become even more exciting. Landing traffic on 29 versus departing traffic from 01. BA
A320 took off to LGW
, followed by AZ
,QR,AF...whereas tens of TUs landed as well as AT
The agent informed me of a slight delay of almost 30 minutes. I understood that it was due to cargo and also traffic regulations. In the boarding queue there were passengers departing to Lyon !!! Imagine if they found themselves in IST
?!!! Ok, i boarded the cramped 734 and went to my seat under the advices of a handsome steward. There were 3 air hostesses too. Boarding was fast although load was at 90%. We've been pushed back eastward passing by 2 Tunisair AB6s that have just arrived from Europe and by the Lybian 727 still waiting for i don't know what
Aircraft started taxing with own power southward then waited a while at Rwy01 holding point. I thought then that we will make a rolled take-off but we waited again at runways end after having lined-up. There probably were landing traffics on 29. TC
-JEY started the run with full take-off power and a few seconds later it lifted off. Departures to IST
generally turn right just after airborne Rwy 01, but this time it continued on runway heading. I understood then that we will be routing via Malta. Reaching TS
NDB, by 3000ft, we started a left turn back to Tunis/TUC
VOR, then set course direct to DIDON waypoint, SONAK then direct to Gozo VOR. We didn't overfly the Islands of Malta because we have obtained a short-cut, avoiding Gozo VOR, and proceeding direct to the entry point to Rome or Brindisi FIR. We procceded thendirect to Kerkyra, then Ionnina, Saloniki, Alexandrioupolis, Tekirdag then STAR to Ataturk.
Next flight TUN-YUL Tunisair A330-243.
