I went to Puerto Rico over the week-end. I do that more often as shopping is great on this wonderful Island. Nice people, first class hotels, great food and very much around the corner for us. A short 50 minute hop on either the Eagle or Caribbean Sun is all it takes. Went with the Eagle this time. On time like a Swiss clock and a smooth but short US$ 260,- ride. Nothing special to report about that. Why this “trip report”?
To express my frustration with the extremely horrible AA/Eagle terminal at SJU; especially the Eagle departure lounge with its one miserable boot that serves over-priced food (US$ 5.50 for a couple of slices of melon erroneously named fruit salad) and very disgusting sandwiches. Nowhere can you buy anything to read. The 4 TV’s are on program guide and nobody that seems to know who is in charge to change it to news or sports or whatever else that entertains. Nothing else to do than sit, stare and realize how uncomfortable the seats are. Besides, you have to walk about 50 miles through boring grey/white corridors without any decoration, to get from security to the gate area which is only slightly better than the 70 miles they make you walk upon arrival to Immigration. What a design! Shoot the architect. Blame AA for the boring terminals they impose on us travelers everywhere they get a foothold. They may build expensive and large terminals but I have not been able to catch them on design innovation and customer comfort for times when travelers need some diversion. What a pity and what a contrast with their outstanding performance –in my humble opinion- once you are onboard their planes. Pfffff....I got that off my chest. Hope that anyone stationed at SJU reads it and does something to improve. I can’'t be the only one or am I?
