MAN - PHL - MCO / FLL - PHL - MAN On US

Thu Nov 24, 2005 8:31 am

15th July 2005
We arrived at the airport in plenty of time, a whole 3 hours. Our flight was set to depart at 12.35PM. We did the usual shopping, eating and drinking then passed through security and settled down at our gate in Terminal 2. Boarding came soon enough and we found our seats on the lovely Airbus A330-300. We were sat in... 12 a,b,c,d,e,f,g (yes 7 in our group) Must say that these are noisy seats especially during taxi. Vey Creeky seats. Anyway seeing as this was a daytime departure, I saw many planes departing and landing. We taxied onto runway 24R, passing the Airport Pub. Some nice people gave us a wave as we turned  Smile We were still for around 30 seconds then those powerful engines kicked into action. We thundered along the runway gathering speed and after what seemed like quite a long time, we were off. Flight was pretty much uneventful, service was very good. IFE is excellent on US Airways and they have a great range of films and music. Landing at Philadelphia was quite nice, a new airport for me and a soft landing to compliment. Oh my, immigration! What a nightmare!

Here's the story. I was travelling with 6 of my relatives, all with the second name 'Fisher' whereas I was 'Smith-Markl'. Needless to say she questioned me. What I did not know was that 'I have to have written permission' Well this was the first I had heard of it. The immigration officer was quite lenient I think, I didn't smile on the picture though! Did shake me up a bit but we continued and picked up our luggage. Fed it into a machine and went into the terminal our flight was from.

We had around an hour waiting time so we sat down and got ourselves some food (Philly Cheesesteak mmmm) Once finished we continued to our gate and our 757 was sat there, although no fuel truck! Once boarded the captain came on the intercom telling us that because of weather they wouldn't come and fuel the plane. Well they fuelled us and we taxied out, where we spent TWENTY minutes waiting for a slot to take off. It was our turn and we Took off, once again a very uneventful flight.

5th August 2005
Fort Lauderdale was another new Airport for me, and hopefully a regular one seeing as my Aunty lives so close. Our flight was running late due to weather and so had to divert to Fort Myers. Well after standing at the window guessing which plane was ours landing it finally arrived. We boarded and we were away fairly quickly. This flight on a 757 was very eventful Big grin had strong turbulence as we climbed to cruising altitude and once again very strong turbulence descending into Philadelphia. As our flight was late, we were cutting it fine for our connecting flight back to MAN. I can't remember the terminals, but aparrently it takes 15 minutes walking to get from one to the other, we had 5!!! Our names were being called over the tannoy, a first for me! In the end I thought 'Sack it, I've gotta run!' So I ran through the terminal, new jeans almost round my ankles! I managed to catch a Buggy kinda thing to my gate. Not long after the rest of my group was there. We got a few dirty looks on the plane... (sorry if you were on that plane) Flight back was uneventful, dinner was great. Films were good and saw the Northern Lights Big grin Landing was a wonky one, pilot had trouble keeping it straight! Also went to a football match that same day (6th August) Rochdale 1 - 0 Shrewsbury Big grin

Thanks for reading, this is my first trip report.

Thanks for that, I take the same MAN > PHL trip on USairways in March and I'm quite looking forward to the IFE on the A330.
I keep hearing PHL is a nightmare and I take it the MAN flight gets in there with all the other international flights? meaning big queue's?

Where did u get the Philly Cheese steak from? I'm looking for a good place to eat there as I have a 5 hour lay over before my next flight!

James.

Philadephia is ok once you're past immigration... Quite long queues but there was an Air france flight which arrived just before/after our flight so if you're lucky you shouldn't have to wait too long. Got the cheesesteak from this like food court type area. I think if you ask anybody where the Philly cheesesteaks are, they'll know  Wink

Since I work at PHL, I've had the opportunity to sample cheesesteaks from just about any place that has them. I will tell you that the best one's are in Terminal C at Philly Steak and Gyro Co. across from Sbarro near gate C26, as well as at any one of the Jet Rock Bar & Grilles. I prefer the one in Terminal F, although they're just about in every terminal.

Hi, short but nice report.

Quoting Daleaholic (Thread starter):

-Yes it is.

-Yes, it is, generally a nightmare! Sad

I've used US Airways in 'C' & 'Y' many times from LGW to PHL & CLT on 333's, connecting onto LAX and FLL. They have always been superb, never had any problems apart from weather related delays.

Rgds

There two attributes that make a trip to Philadelphia memorable: 1) the cheesesteaks!!!! 2) immigration. Guess which one is the better of the two?  Wink

I flew a US330 once FRA-PHL-FRA and found it to be an enjoyable experience. The IFE was good and the service (pre-9/11) was better than I expected. Haven't had a chance to fly them again.  Sad
A330 man.
