YEG - YVR - YEG "WestJet"

I arrived at the airport at noon believe it or not.. I figured I didn't have a busy day, so, why not head out to the airport early to grab some lunch and watch some planes. YEG was fairly busy due to the holiday season and lots of delayed flights. Turns out there was freezing rain throughout western Canada causing some problems for planes. Apparently one WestJet 737 landing at YLW ended up with 2 inches of ice around the cabin... Not sure how true this is?

I grabbed a quick bite to eat then wondered around for a few hours completely bored out of my mind.. I'm NEVER going to the airport 3hrs early for domestic flight ever again!

We boarded quickly and I sat down in 5F.. I should give some advice to anyone flying on a WJ 600.. NEVER SIT IN 5F.. The window is very far forward making it extremely difficult to look out the window. This 600 had no TV so on went my iPod. Drink service was simple for this 1 hr 29 minute hop, which consisted of soda, buy on board beer and juice. I chose a Canada Dry (as always when I fly) and some cookies.. Flight was fairly uneventful with exception to approach.. It was quite bumpy going into YVR this evening with heavy rain and very low visability.. We touched down on rw 08L and a lengthy taxi to the WestJet gate on the other side of the airport.

After arriving into YVR I grabbed my (now damaged) luggage and headed out to grab a cab.. I had a fantatstic room at the Delta Suites downtown on the 17th floor with a fantastic view of downtown.. Anyone staying in Vancouver, I highly recommend the signature club rooms at the Delta Suites.........

After a few days of hard work in Vancouver it was back to the airport. I finished work early today and decided to head to the airport early to hopefully go stand-by to get home early.. I was originally booked on WJA18 departing at 7:50PM. I arrived at the airport at around 2PM and after a fairly short line at the WestJet counter the CSA said we had two no-shows for the 2:30 flight, and one person already stand-by. This shocked me as it's xmas and I figured the 2:30 would be completely booked. She asked if I could "hoof it" to the gate and I did!!

I made it through security pretty quick (again surprised) and to gate A2. Turns out the flight was delayed coming out of YLW (45 mins!). I sat at the gate as the 700 series pulled up hoping those two pax did NOT show up!! Sure enough, after a fully loaded 700 they called my name and assigned me seat 1E!

I was the last person to board, and since you cannot put anything under seat 1E I ended up having to put my laptop back all the way near the back of the plane! A very friendly person (thanks!) said they would take my bag up for me after the flight. I was very thankful and returned to my seat...

Take off was uneventful on yet another rainy day @ YVR. I watched a bit of Office Space on my PVT (Office Space rules!!) as we cruised back at FL330 with a decent tail wind! Flight time on the leg was 1hr 08mins! So far i've been on flights to YVR that have taken over two hrs to almost an hr! Crazy mountain winds Big grin

After landing I hopped in a taxi and just arrived home to write this trip report.. Hope you enjoyed it, even though uneventful Big grin (As flying should be I guess)

Did you have to pay a fee for the earlier flight? I know that WJ charges 10$ for early-shows....

You Canadians are so predictable. Also did you try to rhyme that? :P

Great report.

Flights should ALWAYS be uneventful in the air  Smile
