MAN - ANU With Bmi In "the Business"

Sun Jan 08, 2006 2:28 am

Sitting in the Globeground lounge at Manchester Airport because the flight has been delayed by 8.45 hours, I thought I'd start writing my first trip report now using my Dell Axim 51v connected over wireless!

I will post this, and then edit my original post as events happen, hope that's Ok!

Flight was originally due to depart at 09.45, and my wife and I booked to stay at the Raddisson SAS the night before. However, I got a call from Expedia not long before we were due to leave home for Manchester. They advised the departure had been delayed to 14.30. Ok, so I cancelled the hotel and left the next morning for the 3 hour drive to MAN.

Upon arrival at check in, I discovered all the economy desks were unmanned, and there were ropes funnelling all passengers past someone who asks the security questions, then regardless of class into a queue for either 1 premium economy desk, or 3 business class check in desks. Very strange, I thought, but this is my first bmi long haul flight, so perhaps this normal?

Anyway, checked in fine, although we were advised the flight was further delayed to 16.00. Apparently they were changing the APU on the star alliance a330.

We got our £6.50 light refreshment vouchers each, and headed off for some lunch. After lunch, we went through security and up to the Globeground lounge, to discover the flight was further delayed to 17.00. Another £5 voucher each.

At least we were comfortable. However, whilst browsing the flybmi site on my axim, I noticed it was showing delayed to 18.30 - and sure enough bmi staff appeared again, advising it was delayed to 18.00. Not sure who is right yet!

That's where I'm up to. Will continue the report on the plane and upload the results when I get to Antigua.

Thanks for reading!

I was at MAN this afternoon and wondered why there was a BMI A330 there, now I know why!
I have only flown with them in economy and they were fine but a friend of mine has tried "the business" and said it was great. I'm sure you'll have a good time once you get going and at least your delay has been at a civilised time and you should be able to sleep in business class.

fingers crossed

Chris

Well, made it safely to Antigua - arrived at our hotel around 5am UK time. Will finish my report and edit the first post - Business Class with BMI is really "the business"! Recommended.

It was G-WWBB, not the star Alliance plane after all.

Having flown in the business on bmi long-haul, I must agree with you. The service is simply excellent.
