South African Airways DUR-CPT-DUR (22 Pics)

Sun Feb 19, 2006 12:22 am

Did DUR-CPT-DUR in April 2005, so this is quite an old report, but nevertheless thought I'll just post my pics here for your enjoyment. Unfortunately this is not a very detailed, comprehensive report, but I hope you enjoy the pics!

Did DUR-CPT on a B738, left DUR 6:30 AM on a Monday morning and arrived in CPT 2 hours later. Returned to DUR late morning that Friday on one of SAA's brand new A319's. Both flights were very enjoyable, including my short holiday in Cape Town.

On our way to CPT, shortly after take-off from DUR

WOW great pics...
I mainly look at the reports to look at the pics and ignore the rest. That A319 looks nice. Don't know if I'll ever get down to South Africa though....  Sad

The pictures are very interesting; thanks. Would love to visit South Africa one day. If I am correct one should drive from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town.

Hi FlySAA,

Although your report is a bit old I just came across it today. I flew JNB-CPT last year on a SAA738 and was very impressed. Everything about the flight was very good...the crews, the food and the aircraft. I really enjoyed my time in SA and would definitely give SAA a try on their long-haul routes. Great pics as well.

Fatastic photos.......I went to SA in 2003 and just adored it. Am hoping to go back within the next year and, hopefully, fly SAA. Thank goodness SAA has joined Star!

All these pictures make me home sick  cry
We were in CPT over new years and I had forgotten how spectacular the Cape Town area is- stunning! I guess I have been gone from Africa too long.
I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning.

Nice pics! Some familiar looking shots there. Have just got back from going to South Africa myself so some of the memories are pretty fresh. Did a lot of the things in your pictures. Went to Franschhoek which I thought was one of the most beautiful places I've been to, in fact your photo from there looks like it was taken in the car park of Haute Cabriere up on the hillside. We also visited Hermanus and took a drive on Chapman's Peak Drive.

My pictures

I have to say it seems as though your passage through Cape Town Airport was far less eventful than mine! See my trip report for more details!

If I am correct one should drive from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town.

We drove most of the N2 from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay and found a lot of the middle section from Caledon to Mosselbaai to be quite dull. Well it isn't dull, it is spectacularly barren. The rest though is beautiful!

A few of the driving highlights on the N2 included the Sir Lowry's Pass coming over towards Cape Town...wow. Unbelievable! Also the Houw Hoek Pass also not far from Cape Town and the sweeping bends of the N2 from Mosselbaai through to George and the Storms River Pass (sp?) are quite different to my usual interstate jaunts.

South Africa is such a beautiful country though, so picturesque.
