B6 ROC-TPA R/t (long)

Sun Mar 26, 2006 9:07 am

So I chose to fly from Rochester this time because the fare was a little bit cheaper than Syracuse. My flight left at 5:00pm and i drove to Rochester at 1:00pm.The drive was simple and the I got access to the weekly parking lot and parked. Of course that weekend we left it was like spring out. But that Monday it started storming and I had to get to the terminal quickly because it was raning quite a bit. I checked in with the self-check in kiosk. The employees were very nice.

I proceeded to security check-point which took a minute. This was my first time out of Rochester and as soon as I entered the temrinal I noticed how much bigger it was. The food court is very nice, with the high tables/chairs right next to the large glass window looking out on the tarmac. I grabbed some mcdonalds because I had some time before the plane came. I saw a few US Airways Express Dash-8's and I noted how quickly an AirTran 717 just rolls right up next to the jetway haha.

So I then went on to gate A-5. I knew my plane hadn't arrived yet from JFK. There was barely any activity except for the USex Dash-8s. There was a DLconnection CRJ next to the B6 gate that sat there for hours. I walked around the concourse and all the US mainline gates were empty and there was an AirTran 717. Unfortunately clouds and thunderstorms kept rolling in along with a quite a bit of fog. I noticed that the US Dash-8s to Connecticut and New York-LGA were being delayed so I was just waiting for our plane to be delayed as well. I believe the flight from JFK was coming in a little bit late as we kept waiting for it to show up. The arrivals/dep. board finally said "Flight 43 Delayed". However, the jetBlue employees did not say a word about our flight being delayed.

I was a little surprised about that. Finally the flight arrived and we all boarded quickly for our updated 5:35pm departure. We took off from ROC very fast and I did notice some lightning outside the plane inflight. The flight was only 52 minutes and we couldnt have any snack service due to turbulence. A dark arrival into JFK was very cool. You could see the lights on all those planes in the airspace like they were right next to us. We landed with a heavy trailing behind us. Our arrival gate was #2 but the british flight attendant said my Tampa flight was leaving from gate 2, which obviously wasn't correct. I had to run to my Tampa flight #29 from gate 16. The jetBlue terminal is very crouded during the evening.

Flight 29 Departing JFK 7:05 Arriving TPA 10:20pm Seat 17A
I boarded the Tampa flight and we left late because of other late passengers. Our taxi time was very long because of the large international flight congestion. Finally we departed and the flight went smoothly. Arrival into Tampa was nice.

Tampa airport is very simple to get to when the traffic isnt bad. I used the self-check in kiosk again and briskly went through to the tram to concourse A. Security was okay. There was still construction going on in the food court. I then went to gate A-14. A flight to Newark was just about to leave and then a flight to Boston. I walked down to the AirTran gates and looked out those windows watching several planes land. I did notice that last year when I came, the Southwest gates were located at where the jetBlue gates are now. And the WN planes were at a new terminal up ahead. Is this a new terminal? And what other carriers will go there? I then walked to the other end of the concourse where a NW flight to DTW(A320) and MSP(A320) were leaving as well as a CO flight to EWR (738).

My plane came and we started boarding. I saw some flight crew people at the podium and I recognized a flight attendant. She was the british lady who worked my flight from Rochester. Rows 15 and up boarded throught the airstairs. I liked doing that. The A320 is indeed a very sharp looking aircraft. It wasn't long before we left. The flight was smooth and inflight snacks were good. I forgot to mention, I enjoyed the Directv programming very very much. We landed into JFK in the dead of the day with barely any traffic. We circled around a little apron which confused me but then the captain came on and said another plane was at our gate which was what I thought. We parked and everyone got off excpet us because this was a thru flight to Rochester. Only one crew member deplaned and the rest stayed on. I found out that the british flight attendant was based in Tampa.

Other passengers started boarding and we left shortly after. I enjoyed watching a couple heavies in the United / BA / Qantas gates. I saw a couple 777s and 747s. We were #3 for take off with an AirChina 744 ahead of us which was making our plane shake a little haha. The flight was short and smooth and I arrived into Rochester on time.

Overall, I enjoyed the jetBlue experience veryy much and hope to fly it again.

The new Airside C opened up in April 2005. Currently, WN, NK, and YX use the facility. DH also used it, having gates 42 & 43 specifically designed for its CRJ operations. It definitely will be one of the relics from this new airside.

I don't believe B6 has a FA domicile in TPA. She more than likely commutes to JFK. Perhaps Crogalski and/or SWA TPA can chime in on this one.

Correct. She's probably based at JFK but just lives in TPA.

Nice report, BTW. Happy to know your flights all went well.
