Wow is that a metal knife I see there? When did they bring those back on flights to/from the US? (Sorry in advance for being ignorant).

Nice post!

It just struck me as being odd, since on my recent flights with QF and NZ, the knives have always been dense plastic. Anyway - hope you have a pleasant flight and enjoy some good IFE!

Flying LH from FRA to DEN and PDX to FRA over xmas they had metal knives in coach. I was quite shocked as well. They work so much better than those crappy plastic ones.

I think not providing metal cutlery is more of an economic decision than a security one... it'd probably be easier to break a plastic knife into a sharp pointy bit and stab someone with it than with a round-tipped metal knife. Plastic cutlery is disposable and cheap, whereas washing metal cutlery after every single flight can be expensive.

Thanks for sharing your flight experience. The new product is great and will be even better when it's install across the fleet.

hey-
Does KE have wireless Internet, by what company, Boeing?
Also if I'm not wrong, when I flew AS about 2.5-3 months ago in First class they had metal utensils, but on Qantas LAX-AKL-LAX they had metal utensils, but plastic knifes. So I don't think ALL of the American airlines are ANTI-metal  Wink

Yes, Connexion by Boeing. Progressively being installed across the lon/medium haul fleet - currently on most long haul A330's, B744 and B777's.

Not sure about now but in the past coming into Australia you got a little card as an explanation as to why they gave you a plastic knife - they said it was the government's decision...

Just an FYI as I see you are new to A.net, it is generally not appropriate to bump a three year old thread for just a simple comment. I don't mean to sound rude, but just want to throw out a heads up before anyone jumps on you in the future, because some people around here can be quite...pompous.

Hope you enjoy it here.  Smile

That's a darned attractive meal for Coach. And, an actual, honest-to-God glass on the tray! I think I'd have to have one of those as a souvenir...  Wink
