This is my first trip report ever so please bear with me...

Trip Summary

Date: 28th June 2005
Flight No: LX381
A/C Type: Avro RJ100 Avroiliner
Departure Time: 1740Z
Arrival Time: 1945Z

Having just finished my GCSEs i wanted to have a well deserved break. So me and my sister booked to go to HKG. Unfortunately i couldnt get an ID80 (or whatever its called) from BA as it was peak season. We ended up arranging me on a full fare with Swiss and my sister using a standby staff ticket.

At around 1700BST We left the home and set of for the airport. After 5 minutes in the car we arrived at a busy Terminal 1. We checked in and found that my sister has a definate seat on the MAN-ZRH but still had to confirm the ZRH-HKG leg.

As our parents had just dumped us at the airport, there was no reason to hang around in landside so we nipped over to airside. The place was packed! We found a seat somewhere near the cafes and waited for boarding.

Soon we were ready to board and the welcome on the flight was nice. Seating was 3-2 abreast. Pushback and start had no delay and soon we were taxying to RWY06L. It seemed like a Listo1S departure and probably was. It was rather overcast outside but soon we broke through and the sun blinded me.

The food was just a sandwich with a piece of processed beef (yummy). The flight seemed pro-longed without anything to pass my time. IFE would be compulsory in my world.

My view...

Not much was to report about the flight apart from a 15 minute hold over Zurich. The FO announced landing will be in 10 minutes so i timed him and it was 30 minutes! OH well...

We landed with a very smooth landing on RWY14 at ZRH (which a lot of people randomly applauded) and taxied to the stand. I managed to snap up a few shots...

I must mention how nice the complimentary swiss milk chocolate was!

Anyways, we queued in a Swiss transfer desk for about 40 minutes to see if my sister was confirmed or not. They gave her something (ticket or boarding card - i dunno) and said they will issue the seat at the gate if available.

With time to eat we decided to head to Zurich City Centre on a double decker train (wow!). Unfortunately the weather was pretty grim so we literally stayed for 5 minutes.

After a lot of walking we got back to the right terminal. We had to catch an underground automated train to Block E where our a340 was waiting for us...

Trip Summary

Flight No: LX138

Arrival Time: 1640(next day) local

The flight to HKG was delayed over an hour and we waited. We waited some more. A litte more waiting until boarding commenced. My sister still hadn't had a confirmed seat. She asked the customer service agent and her expressions were grim (by this time i was daunting a long-haul flight without anyone i know!). It turned out she looked grim because my sister had got a jumpseat at the back of the plane on Captain's approval. Anyhow we were happy for her to at least get on.

As soon as i sat down the Captain announced that we were waiting for a group of passengers from other connecting flights which had been delayed. I got out of my seat and went to see if my sister was alright in her 90 degree upright seat. It seemed as she had made friends with the girls at the back who i was introduced to  Smile Soon later the Captain came to the back to stretch his legs. We chatted for about 10 minutes until he said "Excuse me, i have to go to work now. I will see you later."  cool

Sooner or later we were taxying out to RWY34. Swiss IFE is one of the best i have experienced. The nose wheel camera didn't function on take off which was extremely annoying! However the take off itself was smooth and surprisingly quiet.

Climbing up to FL350 we soon recieved our super and i watched a few movies until i fell asleep. I woke up somewhere over the Middle East and went to search for my sister who i found on a diffrent jumpseat (the ones facing pax). I agreed to swap seats with her because she couldn't get to sleep at 90 degrees  rotfl . The FA at the back invited me to sleep on a jumpseat at the very rear of the plane which had a better recline. It was so cold at the back, even with the 3 extra blankets she had given me.

Arrival in HK was bumpy with strong crosswinds. The nose wheel camera seemed tobe working until the last nm from touchdown it switched off  hissyfit . The actual touch down was very smooth. After saying bye to the crew we disembarked the plane with about 2 hours of sleep between us.

Immigration through HK was snail pace as usual. It was nice to hear the British Cathay Pilots in the airport. Made me feel cheerful to hear their accent Big grin

Heres a shot of CLK from the airport express.

Ok that's all folks

Ok that's all folks. Hope you enjoyed reading my first report. Look out for a CX MAN-LHR-HKG this summer and possibly HKG-SIN with JetStar.

Nice report, I also found SWISS IFE very good. I don't know if you noticed but the plane you flew from ZRH to HKG was HB-JMH, one of the last ones SWISS received! I flew on HB-JMC from LAX to ZRH on December 2003 and at that time the plane was only 2 months old...and I did used the nosewheel camera on take-off from LAX, absolutely fantastic!!!

That's funny, i flew on MC on the return flight to Manchester! I remember because i found it amusing that MC reminded me of MC Hammer's 'Can't touch this' song. lol.
