Hello everyone and welcome to my third trip report for anet !
For this trip I wanted to try the FlyBaboo Dash-8 on the short GVA
route for good Friday on April for a spotting day in Zürich. Unfortunately I heard the bad news on the radio that BBO decided to drop this route the same day I actually booked ! So I called BBO in order to be refund and tell them good luck for the future. I was disappointed because I really wanted to experience my first time with FlyBaboo and a turboprop in a commercial flight. As I was already mentally prepared to fly in April, I didn't gave up and decided to book another flight for the same day but this time with Swiss. It turned out I even found a lower fare on economy with LX
than with BBO. So all was set for me one month before the flight.
Prices I got for GVA
CFF (Swiss train) CHF 162.- (~103 Euros)
BBO CHF 142.- (~90 Euros)
CHF 121.- (~77 Euros)
Approximately the route for this trip.
REM : Videos are available in the first reply of this thread.
Whenever it is possible and depending on the carrier, I usually do my check-in the evening before the flight (I live near the GVA
airport), so I did for this trip. It's much easier because the airport is not crowdy, I don't have to wait long minutes for a free desk, I can chose a window seat much easier and for this case I could also check-in for the return flight as it was departing in less than 24h, plus you get that flight atmosphere one day before already
Check-in done the day before.

Boarding time according my flight ticket was at 06:10. I woke-up at 05:30 on this good Friday and headed to the airport on my bike, it was still night and the birds (not the metal ones) where already singing along my path. I arrived at the airport, passed the customs, security and headed directly to my gate which was A5. I heard the last call 'for passengers flying to Zürich' and arrived at the gate, I was among the last passengers to board, it was 06:23. I watched and photographed the 'Jumbolino' just before boarding.
The aircraft just before boarding.
First light of day on Geneva Apron.
Push-back started at 06:39 and we rapidly headed to the holding point of runway 23. We waited there ten minutes for incoming flights to land. Take-off was at 06:57 and started to tape it over my DV camera. I was happy to get a really cool video which in my opinion gives a really good idea of the Geneva area after take-off. The aircrafts bound to ZRH
make a 180° right turn circumventing 'Meyrin' thus allowing the passengers at the right hand side of the aircraft to have a nice view of the airport, Geneva and the lake. In fact I choose my seat for this purpose, hoping that we wouldn't take-off from RWY05 at the last minute. We passed through the clouds and we quickly reached our cruise altitude, the view was spectacular with the sunrise, Switzerland covered with clouds and the alps on the background.
The service for this LX
shuttle flight was minimum, the usual 'Thank you for flying Swiss' chocolates and that's all. At 06:15 we started our descend towards ZRH
. Again we passed the clouds and we proceeded for approach on runway 34. Right after touchdown the pilot hit hard on breaks to vacate as soon as possible. I spotted the famous cross-runways area, it reminded me the fabulous anet meeting we had last January here. Then I saw the Thai A340-600 landing right after us as I was taping over. Yes ! It was so nice to be back for another whole spotting day !
I took two chocolates for my children (2 and 4 years old).
Sunrise & alps with the 'Mont-Blanc'.
Spot the world famous 'Matterhorn'.
During disembarking the crew seemed to be in a urge so I didn't asked for a cockpit visit. I explored the airport terminals before heading to the observation deck B where I spent the whole day until 17:00 spotting the traffic and taking pictures with my new camera.
Just arrived in ZRH
Our 'Jumbolino' at the gate.

I met a cool guy and his two brothers from the US at the terrace, we chatted and shared our passion for aviation part of the morning. He told me he would have spent the whole day on the terrace like me but he had to leave because his little brothers were bored. It was nice to meet him. One thing I like about this passion for aviation is that it's so nice to meet people from around the world and immediately have so many things to say about our love for aviation.

A lot of people came that good friday to see planes.
A tribute to my old scanner I bought 18 years ago !
I lost the antenna and replaced it with some wires
Although the morning was cloudy, the sun appeared when the Malaysian B772 prepared for take-off, what a chance !

The BUCHair Shop, lots of aviation stuff in it!
Cool thing for parents-spotters, the observation deck B is well equipped for childrens.
Special tours around the airport are available in Zürich.
The Observation deck E can be visited on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during summer.
The restaurant. It's rather expensive, I've done my own sandwich...
Special infos about the airport, planes, airlines are available for spotters.
A car is at the cross-runway area, you can get there via buses departing
from deck B each half hours on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during summer.
Warmly recommended, an unforgettable experience!
The heli-grill and all the spotters seen from deck B.
There are holes in the fence to let you do the best shots!

The webcam with a special guest.
Rush hours of spotters that good friday.
Time passed very quickly and it was 17:00 when I decided to head towards the gate. It was an Airbus A320 to bring me back to Geneva.
Again a quick look at the departure screens.

. A320 HB
View from seat 27F.
The flight was smooth and uneventful. Again the 'Thank you for flying Swiss' chocolates for service... minimum. I taked some pictures on the left and again spotted fabulous view of the alps !
Shortly after take-off.
The city of Bern as seen from 15000 feets on a lovely spring day.
The city of Biel where I lived 4 years.
The military airport of Payerne.
The city of Yverdon.
We passed over Lausanne, St-Prex VOR for a runway 23 approach. Then a few miles before landing, as I was videotaping, the aircraft did a quick right bank to align on the runway, first time for me to experience such a big correction before landing in GVA
After landing the taxiing was very quick and before we knew it we found ourselves parked at the gate. Again, the crew seemed to be stressed and I didn't asked for a cockpit visit.
I went to the observation terrace to take a picture of the aircraft I had just left and then headed to my house riding my bike.
Just arrived in GVA

Going back home riding my bike.
...on my way to my home.
And that's all for now folks, I hope you enjoyed this trip report. Please leave some comments, I would appreciate it.
