Concur.

Oh, and I don't think Singapore Airlines Limited actually own their desks - perhaps if you were present while they were checking in for the morning flight you would have seen their branding.

Well that was different I'll give you that!

One thing - I wouldn't expect to see any SQ branding at MAN at 15:30 seeing as their flight leaves around 10am. Trust me the desks are always nicely branded when the flight is checking in  Smile

Oh and did you really think you could get into the lounge without a *A gold card or were you just trying it on? Sorry to break it to you but SQ is no more important than any other airline in the airline alliance for earth.

Mr Picky notes that British Midland Airways is not a publicly quoted company but is actually a private limited company, hence British Midland Airways plc should actually read British Midland Airways Ltd.

Fortunately for me, next to me a British Airways plc steward was sat in 10D. I was hoping to ask him some questions but instead he just shut his eyes through the journey.

I'm not bloody surprised!

***

*slaps forehead with hand over mouth*

Only 1 pic out of the aircraft, but three in the toilet... Seat up & seat down! I was dreading the third one.... Thank god it was the sink, with it's adequately temperatured water!

***

I'm up to the 'action' shot on the carousel now. I've got the same giggly condition as the two bmi girls in the arrivals hall. It must be an effect you have on people....

***

Conclusion: Well, there's a great big grin on my face, so at least I'm happy.
I'm just wondering how many of my former bmi colleagues at MAN to send this to....  Wink

I travelled on BD591 two days ago on Monday 17 April.

I booked my ticket at the end of January and I did receive an email from BMI notifying me of the change of departure time of this flight so I'm not sure why you did not get the same message if you booked online.

Sorry but this was extremely dull but given your reputation I gave the whole thing a read. Did you really need to give us audio transcripts of every flight that happened to leave whilst you were waiting for yours? Everyone has been to an airport and heard a boarding announcement before...

I'm aware you are a fan of SQ and all this but do are you really hamming it up with:
-The disclaimer
-Trying it on in the lounge with the SQ blue card nonsense
-The pic of the CEO at the end
-All the 'in the spirit of Singapore Airlines' nonsense.

You forgot to thank your parents, God, Airbus, ATC, BAA, bmi engineering, the CAA, the National Grid and a few others.  Wink

What's with all the SQ bits and pieces, and using their logo? And the disclaimer? Errrrm... Nothing of interest to take from the toilet? Delight at scuffed carpets? Disgusted by a timetable with a small scribble? The SQ CEO portrait? You seem slightly too obsessed!

The Disclaimer: because of my user name and because of some certain situations that have occurred during my time at a.net (that I am unable to share), I feel that a clear distance needs to be set between me and any company when expressing my views in such a report.

The Lounge: Well I have already admitted I was bored. I mean come on, I was sitting in that departure lounge for ages with nothing but an overcast scene and a few planes taking off and landing to look at. I also saw this as a chance to see how bmi would deal with such a situation and indeed what presented me was a very gracious member of staff who I will highlight to bmi very soon.

The Picture of our dear Chew Choon Seng: Special request by Planefreak777 after my picture of former CEO Dr. Cheong Choong Kong in my last trip report...somewhere in the replies.

The Spirit of Singapore Airlines. Oh hardly nonsense my rich friend! Though other than that I don't have much further comment.

Quoting BAtriple7 (Reply 21):

At the time they were busy faffing around in the rear galley while I sneaked in. I do stress that my Nokia 7710 and SonyEricsson P900 were in Flight Mode during flight and that my Nokia N70 was used only when permitted.

Quoting Fbgdavidson (Reply 11):
Did you really need to give us audio transcripts of every flight that happened to leave whilst you were waiting for yours?

Well I thought it would add detail. I do like to have choices and one could have just listened and skipped the two or three lines (in most cases) of transcript. I would also highlight that in an arguably similar way, around 6 million people in the UK uses subtitles even though they have no hearing impairment*

Quoting UK_Dispatcher (Reply 8):
Only 1 pic out of the aircraft, but three in the toilet... Seat up & seat down! I was dreading the third one.... Thank god it was the sink, with it's adequately temperatured water!

Well yes but there wasn't much to take a picture of and I didn't want to look to conspicuous with camera in hand taking random photos. The lone photo of the wing and sky generally summed the whole thing up.

-------

Admittedly in the context of a 40 minute in-the-air flight the trip report is slightly longer than expected but I hope my hyperlinked sections helped readers get to the relevant point of what they really wanted to know about.

To be honest, I don't fly much so when I do make a point of making a somewhat big deal out of it which is quite evident. I do not have OCD (as some people have suggested) but I do like attention to detail where time permits (self modesty aside I have great time-management skills), hence the depth of most of my reports.

Anyway I hope you enjoy or at least get something out of reading it! And let's hold our breathe because the ultimate Singapore Airlines Limited trip report is coming this Summer 2006!

Pfff, it's indeed a different kind of TR, but actually amusing to read.

A few comments from my part:

*About SSCI, the BMI lady is right, in the (very near) future there will be no other way. When the ATM was introduced many years ago, a lot of people were afraid of using them, nowadays it's hardly possible to get money at a counter at a bank and we all HAVE to use the ATM (at least in the Netherlands) and have no problems with that anymore. It will be the same with check-in. Get used to it!

* Lounge. Why bother the agent in the lounge if you KNOW that you can't get access? SQ Krisflyer card is a FT card like any other, it's not a ticket to heaven!

* Boarding. Why would you "strategically position" yourself at the desk to board first? Why not listen to the boarding announcement and follow the instructions? There is no need to rush! You have a boarding card WITH seatnumber.....it's not like FR with free seating.

* Tragic start. You were greeted at the door by the FA. He was kind of short in his way of greeting you, but if he greets all passengers with full name and complete sentences, boarding will take to long. Your comment about the purser not being at the boarding door, but preparing for the flight....well, if he his not doing his work, the flight might have been delayed even longer. The plane was late, a short turnaround, it's a race against the clock!

*Toilet. What can I say...Go there if you need to, do your business, clean up (most people forget about that!!), and return to your seat.

*Baggage. Your comment about the rough handling. This happens at ALL airports. No mather if the bag has a "fragile" sticker or not. Please, travellers around the world, realize that baggage handlers will not tread your belongings as china!

I have the feeling that you want to compare this BMI flight with a SQ longhaul flight. IMO that's not possible. SQ is a different company, with a different strategy, different (cost-)structure, and different in many other ways. Also SQ cannot fly you everywhere in the world, so it's useless to compare. Sq mainly flies longhaul, so it would make more sense to compare if your BMI flight was a longhaul flight.

I flew SQ a couple of times between AMS and NYC. Last time was about 10 years ago. All flights were good, but haven't flown SQ the last 10 years, although I had the possibility. IMO SQ is a bit overrated. Once again, I had only good experiences, but I also know people who had a bad experience with SQ (but here on A.net it's apparently more fun to bash IB or NW).
