Well, another business trip at last minute's notice to Europe. The wife at home drives a poor traveler crazy, as she insists on packing and checking the luggage. It is cold over there! Where is your jacket?? By the way, invest in some decent luggage, mine is supposed to withstand a bullet (just what you want to face while in the air) but it has survived countless trips and was money well spent.
Well, I love the 777's, too bad Delta has so few of them. For me, Delta is the most convenient carrier and I have been loyal with them for at least 15 years, being at a medallion level for most of it.
After a short but yummy Killian's at the Crown Room Club in concourse E in Atlanta I take all my belongings and find my ride.
She stands beautifully in the evening sun and looks very inviting. I hope that I will be able to sleep some tonight, since I have to attend a business meeting in the early afternoon and get to zoom over the Autobahn to my destination!
I enter and the purser and the flight attendant bid me a very friendly good evening.
I found my seat, I think it was 3E, and get my welcome champagne. It is a tad cheap in the plastic glass, I wish they would go back to real glasses! It is not Krug, but pretty decent Lallier Brut, drinkable. A pillow, blanket, and a little amenity kit is already in the seat, the latter with socks, chap stick, tooth brush and paste, and a sleeping mask. I sip my champagne and get a refill right away.
I took some pictures of the seat, it is comfortable, but of course, no flatbed or a suite.
Shortly after we are shown the safety briefing movie and we taxi to the runway. We wait in a queue of about 5 planes waiting to take off to their various destinations. Soon it is our turn. The powerful engines spool up and we accelerate down the runway. How much more powerful than a 767, that is what I often fly to Europe! I did not pay attention about the runway used ( I am afraid, even if I did, I would not know) and the climbing rate etc. I just enjoyed the feeling of being able to have a couple of hours to myself.
The flight attendant comes and remembers my name during the whole flight. She always addresses me as Mr. ... and I think this is quite nice service. She also says, I see you are one of our valuable Platinum fliers and we thank you for your patronage. I remark that I hope Delta is around for some time longer, for a while it looked like the pilots were going to strike and that I would not have been able to take this flight. We chat for a little bit and she says that all hope things will turn out ok.
And then the food starts. Nice table presentation, escept the plastic knives! Come on, enough of the plastic, don't other carriers use real knives again?
Here is the menu:
Sesame Chicken with cucumber and pecan smoked trout
Goat cheese round with sun dried tomatoes
Next I had the Salad mix, I am not going to write the whole thing
Then we had a choice between herb-crusted lamb loin with garlic sauce and potato wedges, which I chose and grouper in mango-cucumber salsa with black pearl rice. Both dishes hat various vegetables.
Also, they offered cheese tortellini with mushroom and Thai chicken coconut soup with red curry and lemon grass as vegetarian dishes.
I was happy and enjoyed my selection. Accompanying the meal was a good French Bordeaux.
A cheese plate rounded up the menu and I enjoyed a port wine with it.
I declined coffee, as I wanted to catch some zzz's. But I did not decline the ice-cream, yum!
Feeling sufficiently full and the dinner ending the flight attendants turned the lights down and I reclined my seat and fell asleep right away. No movies or entertainment this time.
I woke up for breakfast, went to the lavatory, which was clean and well stocked. And soon after breakfast service began.
And Choice between Cereal
or breakfast Quesadilla, which I chose and liked ok.
Unfortunately weak coffee, but landing in Germany soon should take care of that!
Soon we were on finals for Frankfurt, of course not without circling a bit over the busy airport. Touchdown was smooth, and sorry, I actually don't put my camera out when they ask you not to use any electronic equipment.
Flight attendants said bye and thanks, very friendly and professional despite the tough times.
Delta still seems like a good carrier to me, they get me where I want to go.
Hope I did not bore you!
