By the way, this was also my first flight in the last 13 years.
All the pictures are taken by my new Canon SD600 (I'm still learning modes)
Flight CO50 Newark (NYC) - FRA
Seat 45k (Yea I know it sucks)
Dept. 7:30 PM
Arrival 9:20 AM
Flight Duration 7 Hours 15 Minutes
Load Factor: est: at 97% front and back.
Well ... my seats were really bad (just my luck) When I tried to fake a story and ask to be seated at the first class, my story didn't fly.
I took this vacation to visit my relatives whom I have not seen in 13 years (we were very close). To my surprise I was not too afraid to fly. I just wanted to get away, you know?
I arrived at the airport 2 hours before take off. The security was pretty fast. Total time maybe 20 minutes. They made us take our shoes off but I didn't mind. As we walked to our gate I sat near the window to take few photos.
Here is our plane
The terminal was fairly crowded and the plane was on time for boarding.
Since I knew that I'll be doing my trip report here I took few more shots of the terminal and the planes.
We started boarding the plane on time. Since my seat was all the way back in the plane .... we were given the priority to board right after the business class boarded.
As we are seated I decided to take few shots of the cabin. Everyone had TVs. Great now it won't be too boring.
I saw many people here take pictures of the leg room, so here you go. 45K (all the way in the back and it's pretty OK)
Boarding was pretty quick. Or maybe it's just me first time flying in 13 years and too much excitement to keep track of time.
The weather was bad (light rain), so I couldn't take any good quality pictures.
Take off was loud, shaky and unpleasant. I think it was because we were all the way in the back. I felt the pressure with every 1,000 feet. As always a hard turn to follow after take off. Is it ever a straight fly off the runway?
The meal was served shortly after take off. About 20 minutes into the flight.
Did someone say that stewardess are supposed to be good looking? Not on Continental. (pardon my male pigness)
2 of them actually looked like my high school nurses (in a bad way). But overall they had smiles on their faces. I can't say that they were too pleasant. To tell you the truth I expected a better service from the airline that I see advertise 24/7. "Continental : Work Hard, Flight Right" or "Continental : Why you fly is your business, how you fly is ours" (Being a Marketing Manager, I like the last slogan)
Anyway ... sorry I didn't take the pictures of our dinner. It was actually pretty OK for an airplane I guess. They offered Chicken or Beef.
After flying for about 4-5 hours or so they announced that we'll be moving into the daylight ours, so we might want to shut the shutters (on the windows).
Unfortunately we didn't hear too much communication from the captains. Just some standard things like (flight attendants take your seats for lift off. and daylight hours. Also they told us the weather at FRA is good and the duration of the flight)
Oh .... here is a funny story. Before take off they started showing the Safety Video. In the middle of the video as they are showing how to put the air mask on, the screens go BLANK. And out of nowhere, in the 3 seconds of silence, a young 20 year old guy screams ... "so what do we do then???" Believe me, this was funny. The entire half of the plane laughed.
Ok here is us moving into the daylight hours. By the way ... on our right there was another plane. Pretty interesting for air traffic.
I looked at this thing for a long time, especially after 5 hours of flying. Suddenly it was no fun any more.
Here we're almost ready to land. Weather is nice, but there are some clouds.
And here we landed.
To tell you the truth ... the landing I guess could be better. It was a little harsh but no big deal. Here are some pictures of us being taxied to our gate.
And .... FRA airport.
We got out of it pretty fast. Got our luggage and were greeted by people we didn't see for a long, long time. Great reunion I'd say.
Few photos of Germany (Dortmund)
As we finished our 8 day stay in Dortmund, Germany we were ready to go back to USA. I'll tell you the truth ... I was ready to go back to USA after 4 days. No offense to any country or nationality, but I like it here.
Flight CO51 FRA - Newark (NYC)
Seat 23K (I had to ask for this seat)
Dept. 11:20 AM
Arrival 2:05 PM
Flight Duration 8 Hours 20 Minutes
Load Factor: est: at 85% front and back.
Once again, here is FRA airport and our plane being ready to board.
I think this was Lufthansa landing. This will be no surprise, but they are huge there. I actually heard that they were a very, very good airline.
Here we finally boarded the plane as we are seated on the wing. I heard these were good seats ... I guess I'd see in 10 minutes.
Another photo from the window of a plane landing.
The boarding was fast. This time we started entering the plane from the nose, so we say the Business Class of Continental Airlines. Yea .... much better than 45K. The seats were 40% wider and there was much more room there. The rich folks were already seated complaining of not getting their watter in 15 seconds. (I overheard one guy with his laptop being a bit nasty) But you know for paying $4,000 one way ticket, he can be a bit of a jerk.
As we started "driving" to our take off road or whatever we call it I took more pictures. Total time to destination for take off was about 7 minutes. Pretty far from the gate.
I wish I had a better camera and a stable shot. This would be a great picture.
Finally the take off.
...and a hard turn.
This take off was actually better than the first. I felt less pressure and it was not as noisy. I guess there is a difference between 45K and 23K.
Once again ... the food was served about 20-30 minutes into the flight. And again ... no pictures of the food. BUT the food again was pretty good I guess.
Flying back was less fun thought. First of all it was now 1 hour more than coming into FRA. Also there was a lot of turbulence. We had to buckle our seat belts 5-6 times through out the flight. It was not too pleasant, BUT no one fell and I guess it was not THAT bad. I heard worse stories before.
After 6-7 hours of flying ... ALMOST THERE!
...yet ... people are sleeping.
We're almost at the Newark airport and the weather is awful. Can't see a thing and we're at about 5,000 feet now.
... and we landed.
After the landing, I'll try to fly other airlines. ........ Landing was hard. I thought the airplane would break. The baggage on the top was close to falling on us. Bottom line ... this was not a good landing. Apologies? No ... the captain didn't say a thing.
And that's it.
P.S. ......... On the way back, at 34,000 Feet the pilot came on and said ... "We have a bit of an issue" .... not something you want to hear at 34,000 feet in the air. ........ He continues .... Channels 4 and 5 at seats 4K and 5K in business class will not be working. &%&&%#^@%#$*$
Hopefully I have not offended anyone. And if I did ... you know what they say...?
"In America, every one has the right to get offended"
"If you have not offended anyone by 2pm, you're probably not doing much" (this is for business folks)
But seriously ... I hope this was interesting to you. Thanks for reading. I'd feel good seeing replies to this trip report.
