Hello everyone, welcome to this trip-report about my short flight from HAM to CGN and back.
I took many pictures and will let them speak for themselves, since I do not think that a detailed written description would be very interesting on such a short flight because there does not happen much.
I took me 10 minutes to get my boarding pass, I went to the self check-in machine from LH, inserted my Miles and More card, answered some questions by touching the screen and finally selected my seat 16F (window)
I had more than two hours left until boarding, so I went upstairs to Mövenpick in order to get some breakfast.
The terminals at Hamburg Airport are very spacious and modern and it is always a pleasure to start a vacation there.
After breakfast I went downstairs, through security which was a breeze and towards the duty free shops.
Prior to boarding:
I spent most of the time at the windows, watching the planes come and go.
The nicest sight was the Continental 757 with blended winglets from Newark and an advertisement which read that Emirates will also start a service to New York from Hamburg.
Despite the CO 757 there were mostly LH planes coming and going from/to destinations all over Europe.
After my nose hurt after pressing it against the window for about an hour, I decided to go to my gate and read my book until my flight is called.
Registration: D-ABEH (Football nose)
When boarding was called, I noticed that the load would be pretty low today.
We boarded through the jet bridge and two F/A`s greeted us at the door.
I went to my seat, settled down and placed my camera in the seat pocket in order to be ready if Anthony interesting happens.
I read my book for ten more minutes and suddenly there was an announcement by the purser...
She said the following "Boarding completed"...
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET, I would have an entire row for myself and even the row next to me was completely empty.
We pushed back through the puring rain and soon we were on our way towards Runway 33.
we had to wait for this 737 to take off
turning onto Runway 33
soon the drink service started and since we were so few pax, it was over really fast and I was asked if wanted to have a second drink, which I declined, since I was not thirsty any more
soon we started our descend and we were asked to fasten our seat belts pretty soon, since they expected turbulence during the descend.
weather in cologne was not much better than in Hamburg
flying trough low-hanging clouds
shortly before breaking through the clouds
overflying the Autobahn
I did not take more pics during the landing because I wanted to enjoy it, but I can tell you that the landing was smooth and that we taxied very fast towards our gate.
We arrived at our gate 15 minutes early and soon everyone was out of the plane.
Conclusion: The flight was good and for LH standards exceeding my expectations, since I was asked if I wanted a second drink.
The cabin crew was very young and friendly, something you do not always get on those flights.
After spending two days in cologne, it was time to fly home.
I drove to the airport, checked in the same way as in Hamburg, and this time I selected seat 16A for my seat.
After that was done, I headed towards security which took some 5 minutes and then I was in the old terminal were the departure gates from Lufthansa are located. Luckily passengers are able to go to the new Terminal were the LCC´s are flying because there are good opportunities to watch the planes and to explore the shops.
I sat down at a café and watched some of the traffic, there were several MD-11´s, the Germany Air Force A310 and lots of Germanwings planes in this ugly pink T-mobile livery.
After I looked, ate and shopped for about an hour, I headed towards the gate since I just saw my plane coming in
When I arrived at the gate, I noticed that this flight would be fuller than the one two days ago, but I doubted that it would be completely full.
Unfortunately I noticed that this was the same plane I flew two days before and like many of you know, there is nothing worse than flying the same plane twice.
Even though the plane arrived 15 minutes late, boarding started on time and soon I was seated in my seat and taking some pictures
when the F/A announced, that boarding is completed, I noticed that th eplane was about 85% full and the seat next to me was empty.
The Safety demo was shown and soon we were on our way towards the runway.t
We arrived at the runway and were given immediate take off clearance.
We hit some turbulence after take off but nothing to write home about.
Soon we were on our cruising altitude and the drink service started.
after the drink service was completed, it was time for our descend.
flaps coming outt
banking right for an RWY 5 arrival
the Elbe river
shortly before landing
our final approach was quite shaky, since there were moderate winds outside, but the pilot managed a very smooth landing.
vacating the runway
we arrived at our gate 10 minutes early and soon I was on my way home.
Conclusion: The flights were good, I had much worse experience with LH but this time I was lucky to have the young motivated F/A´s.
The service was nothing special, but the plane had the new seats and the cabin looks nicer and more modern.
I hope you liked my report and any comments are welcomed.
