Northwest Airlines A320 (LGA-MSP) With Pics!

Mon Jun 05, 2006 11:03 am

After a weekend of heavy rain, the sky began to brighten as I headed to
La-Guardia Airport to board my flight back to Minneapolis.

I arrived at LGA at about 9:40am for my 11:30am, and the Delta/Northwest terminal was jammed! There were several customer agents helping passengers with their check-in, so I soon was at a kiosk. I was originally seated in #21A but was able to move to #9A!

I was past security within a couple of minutes, and walked down the Delta concourse. It is amazing how there were about 4 flights to Atlanta that left within about 2 hours.

This was Delta #615 bound for ATL:

Here comes the catering truck:

After walking around the terminal quite a few times, it was finally time for boarding at around 10:50am.

The flight was 100% full this morning; most every flight at the terminal was. At around 11:20am, door 1L was closed and we pushed back from Gate 7.

Now the terminal was almost empty!

We began the taxi past the US Airways terminal, and I spotted 2 US Airways A320's, and a few 737-300's.

Here's a CRJ-200 in the new livery. I think the livery is great!

After passing the US Airways terminal, we then passed the Air Canada/Continental section of the C-terminal which was very empty.

Here's the American side of the terminal. A B-738 was getting ready to pushback.

Here are some views from the window seconds after take-off.

After climbing up through the clouds, I finally was able to see the sun after a weekend of clouds!

Beverage service began after about 20 minutes, and I enjoyed a sandwich I bought at LGA.
I did purchase the $1 snack mix, as I was still a little hungry.

The flight continued on smoothly, and because the sun was so bright I closed the window shade while I read my book.

When I opened the shade up, we were over Michigan.

After another 40 minutes or so, we began our descent into MSP. We flew right over St. Paul and Minneapolis, before flying over Minnetonka before turning around for arrival.

As we flew right over the cities, I did not have a good enough view to take a picture. I hope I can next time!

After a quick landing, we taxied for about 2 minutes and arrived at C-14.

The A320 was now bound for Denver.

All in all, a good flight.

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Excellent report! I have flown MSP-LGA but it required a stop in ORD. I was on AA, a 757 to ORD then an F-100 to MSP. I wanted to fly NW to MSP, but it was way more expensive. I recall the terminal being ridiculously crowded like you mentioned. Does NW still fly the 757 LGA-MSP?

Yes, they do. I know it's a mixture of A319/A320/B752.

By the way, excellent trip report!

Nice report and good pics.

I still can't believe NW charges for snack mix. Does anyone know when they started doing this and discontinued meal service in Y?

Thanks for your comment! Yes, NW still does fly their 757-200 on the LGA-MSP route. Actually, the earlier flight to MSP was operated by a 757-200. NW flies their A319/A320, 757, and DC-9's into LGA. I think the DC-9's just fly to Memphis and Detroit from LGA; they don't fly to MSP.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah it is rather annoying that NW charges for their snack mixes. I guess I won't complain too much, but I feel that peanuts/pretzels should be free. I hope that NW updates their snack boxes as well. To answer your question, NW started doing this (I think) in early 2005. When I flew them in 10/04, I got free snacks..

Good report! How was the service onboard? I flew them LGA-DTW in January and the F/As were all grumpy and bitchy...must've had a long day ahead of them.

They were fine; one of them seemed a little annoyed. She told me to turn off my camera as we were arriving into MSP! I was surprised by this...

A digital camera is a electronic device which must be turned off during taxi, takeoff, and landing. Why is that surprising? Maybe he/she was annoyed by having to repeatedly tell people to turn electronic devices off depsite just having made an annoucement for it.

767747,
Where you on #NW549? If so, you were on N334NW, which I witnessed deparing, while spotting at planeview park. I think the new NW colors, look really nice on a cloudy day. The red tail really stands out. I did not like the new colors at first, but they have really grown on me. To bad we don't get the 747 at JFK anymore Sad

That's funny! Yeah, we taxied all the way down to that runway and departed from there. I also like the new colors a lot. I think they look the best on the A320, the 757, and the A330.

The 747-400 doesn't fly into JFK anymore?? When was this change? I flew in their 3 months ago, and it was there.

NW still operates the cargo 747 into JFK, the PAX version does not come in. IIRC, the NRT-JFK service which the 747-400 was operated on, ended on 10/3/05.

Wow! So does the A330 come in there now, or did NWA drop this direct flight?

The flight is currently "suspended." NWA claims it will return with 787 ops.

Yes, its actually a pretty good deal, ive flown on US airlines that don't offer a snack and dont offer any chance of a snack mix.

Yes, even though the price seems a little much for what you get, at least you do get something.

Yeah, Delta and Continental Airlines would fit into this category.

Well if people wouldn't pay less then $200 RT for air fare maybe they wouldn't have to do so.

Delta from what I understand will soon be charging too, they are going to do the Song Product in coach.

Continental will of course, they own their own catering company, if they didn't im sure they would be right there with everyone else.
