Note: I had my digital camera on this trip and had taken quite a bit of pictures on the flights of the seats, meals, and other little things. Well in LAX
at the lounge I downloaded the pictures I had taken already, but then in AKL
I lost my camera around the customs area, so the pictures of Qantas were lost. I have told AKL
and they have registered that it is missing... otherwise wait tell my return report I'll take a camera on board. ON
WITH THE STORY:
the night before I had played a game of comp. Soccer and won, so I knew that was a good sign.
The next morning I got ready for my flight that left at 7:58AM.
me at my house
I arrived at the airport with time to spare and checked in very quickly with First class. Then I waited for my parents to arrive, after they got there I said my goodbyes and headed over to security where I saw someone that I had hoped never to see again. It was my old school secretary, of whom I had to work with all year because I was office aid. Well she said in her usual way "uhmmm excuse me but your going to have to go to the other security point." Oh well at least I didn't have to deal much with her at the airport.
After going through security with out any sirens going off, or any police men turning up to take me away, I went over to the Alaska Airlines Board Room, got into the elevator and went up.
I was greeted by a lady who was very nice this is how the conversation went:
Me "G-day ma'm, here's my ticket, is Christina working now?" (Christina is a family friends that works at the board room)
Lady "no shes not... she just went over to Germany for a bit. Lets see (looks at ticket) okay well are you over 21?"
Me "no, I'm not"
Lady "okay well I'm sorry to say but, you have to be over 21 to come in here by yourself since we serve alcohol, but we aren't serving it at this time in the morning, so I don't see why we can't let you in, let me ask me co-worker, just a second"
Me "Thanks a heap" I was laughing to myself about how she had to ASK if I was over 21, I have been told that I look older then I am and I was dressed nicely, but I'm only 14 so not that old, Hahaha. Oh well she came back with a frown on her face... I knew then that it was bad news
Lady "I'm sorry but my co-worker said that you aren't allowed in, I'm sorry."
It was alright, I was just a tad surprised that down in LAX
they would let me into a international lounge, but AS
wouldn't let me into their domestic one.
I went down to In-Motion, to pick up a movie, when I got down there I decided that I needed new headphones as all I had were my Ipod ones which were a bit scratched. I tried to find the movie The Island, but they didn't have it. So I went for Date movie, which I had heard was sort of funny. I tried on some headphones and in the end I got a pair that were like earplugs, they blocked out most sound. I got it on a discount since there was only one pair left and they were his ones that he used to show people.
I then headed for the gate and sat around for about 15 minutes tell they called boarding, I stepped on the plane and was warmly welcomed by the flight attendant.
I took my seat 3A. There was a bottle of water stuck in a glass with a napkin inside the glass sticking out. I had never seen it done this way, but it add an extra little touch.
I was seating next to a really nice lady who flies a lot. We talked for a while about different types of writing, about whats going on in the world and some other stuff.
I then noticed the flight attendant picking up a small black pouch, I realized that they were my headphones, I tried to get her attention, but to no success. So I figured that I would get them once we were in the air. But OHHHH NO, it wouldn't be that easy.
Alaska flight 104
with a stop in PDX
Boarding at 7:28AM
Flight time: 3h42m minutes to PDX
then 2h17m to LAX
First class, seat 3A
100% full in First and about 95% full in Economy
Take off was all right; it was raining so it wasn't extremely beautiful outside. Take off roll took 33 seconds. I listen to the song Back in Black by AC
/DC since I was back in All Black territory.
(I have a movie of take off from ANC
, I'll try to laod it again later)
I read my book for a while. I then set up my portable DVD player and started to watch Oceans 12.' Soon food was served, it was a tortilla with egg, cheese and meat inside, on the plate was some cantaloupe, pineapple, and a slice of orange. It was all really nice for a American domestic meal. Although I remember back a while ago when you use to get your pick of cold cereal, omelet, and one other choice. But that was then and this is now.
breakfast on AS
I then went up and asked the flight attendant, on one of my dashes to the toilet, if she had my headphones that were in a little black pouch. She said "oh sorry, I thought they were from some one on the last flight, I gave them to customer services on the ground back in ANC
." I was thinking BUMMER, but said "thank you."
back of row 2 taken during flight
Great leg room for domestic
The flight was pretty much uneventful from there on. I just sipped my ginger ale or 7UP and slept, then read my book.As we were getting closer to PDX
the nice lady sitting next to me pointed out the window to the mountains and told me all about them
Landing into PDX
was nice because it wasn't raining. Our flight attendant then gave the normal talk once we started our taxi and I went some thing like this:
"welcome to Portland ladies and gentlemen, it is now safe to use cellular phones. When the captain has turned off the safety belt sign then and only then is it safe to get up and retrieve your belongings from the overhead bins, but do note that your belongings may have shifted during the flight so use caution when opening the bins. If you have any questions about connecting flights there will be an agent at the gate to answer any questions. Also, this is a continuing service to Los Angeles. Those passengers traveling on with us can either choose to stay on the aircraft or disembark, but make sure to bring your ticket and form of identification to be able to return to the aircraft. Once again on behalf of myself, the other flight attendants (she said their names) and the pilots Alaska Airlines would like to welcome you to Portland where the time is 12:40. please stay in your seats tell the pilots have turned off the fasten seat belt sign. Thank you"
I stayed on the plane for a bit so that I could snap a photo of the seats. As I was sitting on the plane I realized that the flight attendant liked to use that intercom... hahaha it was one thing after another, oh well it didn't hurt anyone.
row 2 First class of the older AS
As I sat there, still on the plane, I gave my dad a ring at his office, his secretary answered and we talked for a while, I told her that I was in PDX
I then disembarked the aircraft to stretch my legs and to call Alaska Air back in ANC
to see if they had my headphones. I went to the AS
board room, I went in and showed them my ticket. Then I asked if they had a number for customer service in ANC
, they said they just had the number for the main Customer service, and that they could transfer me over to the one in ANC
. I then asked if I could go into the lounge to use the phone. Once again I got "are you over 21 years of age?" I said "no" I found it funny that now twice I was ASKED if I was over 21. oh well. I then gave AS
customer service a ring on my cellular, got a hold of some one in ANC
and they said that they had it then... of COURSE my cell phone had to lose reception.
Bugger, I then called my dad again to tell them that they had my headphones, I talked to his secretary and when I told her the whole story she said jokingly that I should have said that I was over 21 and to see what they would have said.
I sign off and went to wait to board. At this gate there was a little roped off section and a rug that said FIRST CLASS, huh this was cool! They were only in the pre-boarding for people that needed extra time getting on. There were some mentally challenged people that got on. There was this one guy that scowled at them, well that got me ticked off. I mean they were born into this world like that, they didn't choose to be this way, they didn't ask to be like that. Sorry to rattle off, it just makes me mad when people are so ignorant.
Anyways a man came running up to the gate and handed over his boarding card, thinking he was late. The lady taking the tickets said not to worry that we are still in pre-boarding. So he stepped back. Then she called First class and us in the first class line started to move, I was towards the back of the line so I got to see something funny happen. It was between the man who had come running and another man flying first class that was not in the special first class line, this is how the conversation went:
Other person: "Excuse me I'm in First class" trying to push past the "late Person"
Late person: "so am I"
OP: " then why did you run ahead of the line"
: "I didn't, I thought that I was late"
At this point the lady taking the tickets went over the intercom and said that boarding was only for First class through the line specified and MVP Gold through the normal line at present.
OP: " why do you have to be like this"
: "like what"
OP: "well we have all been waiting in line and you come running up and cut in front of us all?"
At this point I was holding back laughter, because the 'Other Person' was the only person flying first class not standing in the First class line, so the man had only accidentally cut the 'Other Man,' not every one else. this was still going on when I entered the plane, the other person was really mad.
I then entered the plane. As I sat down I was thinking... oh watch this, those two are going to be sitting next to each other, or worst, next to me. Well when they entered the plane the "Other Person' sat down in front of me and the 'Late Person' put his small bag on the seat next to me while he tried to find a place for his carry on. He then had to go back a few rows into coach, the "Other Person' sat there chuckling to him self, I was think, HOW
IMATURE. Well then the 'Late Person' picked up his little bag and sat down across the isle, so I was in the clear. For a while I thought that I was going to have the seat next to me open, no such luck. A fairly big Samoan came through the door and sat down next to me. From there we got another bottle of water in the cup.
We then had the safety procedure shown to us. After that we took off, which took a little longer then at ANC
take off from PDX
river, taken just after take-off
Once in the air we were served drinks and then our choice of either a Mexican salad with chicken or a hot chicken sandwich with cheese, I took the hot chicken sandwich, it was really good! But took awhile for the food to come out, the flight attendant said that was because the oven was giving her trouble.
Lunch on AS
I sat back and relaxed for a bit thinking about things, then did a little touch up on my perfect international First class seat.
This is an photo of an earlier version.
here is a clay version of the seat
I am building a complete 3-D version, this is a picture while its still in the works... its come along since then!
After this I watched the rest of oceans 12, read my book and listened to James Blunt.
It is scary to think that is all smog
Landing into LAX
we didn't get to make use of their speed taxiways off the runway, as we had to wait for a few planes to land and take off.
while taxiing I got some photos:
I also saw about 4 QANTAS 747's on in a hanger getting worked on. I was wondering if any of them were going to be mine.
Our flight attendant got on the intercom saying welcome to LAX
"and for those passengers going on Disney land we wish you a magical journey there." I heard a cheer come from the back of the plane from the group of disabled people going there. Hehehe, I wish I was going!
As I was leaving the plane I told the flight attendant that I had gotten a hold of customer service in ANC
and that they had my headphones, and thank you. Once I got off I gave my dad a ring and talked to his secretary and told her I was in a new place... LAX
, she laughed and said that I sure got around. And that every time I called I was in a different place. I then talked to my dad. After hanging up with him my mum called me.
So I walked out of security, and outside where it was fairly balmy. I walked over to where I thought QANTAS was, which is up stairs... I walked back and forth out front because one set of steps was off limits. Finally I just went up a set of stairs that was the closest to where I had just came out of (closest to the AS
domestic terminal) because I know that QANTAS is on that far side of the terminal. When I entered the international terminal upstairs I was just a row away from where QANTAS is. They hadn't opened yet so I went and got some Advil, just in case I got a headache on the flight. Then I realized that I need to call my dad again to give him some information on a flight of his. Once again I talked to his secretary and told her that I was in Mexico. I waited in line for about 15 minutes, in that time I just read my book, there was only one person in front of me.
Finally after a few people running around they came and helped me. There was a bouquet of flowers by the first and business class check-in. also there was a rug that said FIRST CLASS and one that said BUSINESS CLASS, it was a nice touch.
From there on it was Master Horne how can I help you, Master Horne here are your tickets. The check-in manager was very nice and unlike last time he was able to find my ticket easy! He then gave me my QANTAS club invitation. He said that the one I was to go to was on the 4th floor. JOY...
BUT he also said that it didn't open tell 6:00PM. it was only 4:30.
So I made my way over to security which is just right next door to QANTAS check-in, very handy that it is so close. As I stood in line I must have been blanking out a bit because one lady tapped me on the shoulder to say that the line had gone forward a bit. I felt a tad embarrassed, but at the same time the line hadn't moved that much. Well I got through security AGAIN with out any hassles. I always get a bit shaky when I go through, I mean I never bring anything QUOTE "WRONG" UNQUOTE, but all the same it's a bit intimidating.
I walked out and there was an elevator up to the lounges, I knew that the lounges I need to go to were to my left a bit. So I started to walk over there, thinking, where should I go while I wait for the other lounge to open...hmmmmm? Well why not try my luck at getting into the QANTAS BA
lounge!! So up to the 5th floor instead. When I got to the first QF BA
lounge there was a lady standing outside; she looked at my ticket and said "okay keep going down. The other lounge will be on your left at the end." When she said at the end, he meant AT
THE END. I could have taken the elevator that was directly in front of security up and been right at the lounge.
But no worries, I showed them my ticket, fearing the worst, Which would be them saying "SORRY, you can't come in here." But she said "no problems, you can come in here and then at six we will and come and get you to let you know that the other lounge is open!" I sat down in front of the telly hoping to catch some soccer world cup, no luck, baseball was on (not my favorite sport... sorry to disappoint). A nice lady came over and asked for my ticket, I was thinking "OHHH GREAT, don't say that you are the manager and that you are going to kick me out." But I just put on my charm, smiled and handed over my prized ticket. She had a look at it and said "Master Horne, I will come and let you know when it is 6PM, thank you." I was relived, "THANK YOU VERY MUCH." Was all that came out of my mouth. Although I did feel like getting down on the ground and thanking her for letting me stay in the "Club" for a bit instead of asking if I was over 21 and then kicking me out.
The QANTAS BA
club is in my book nicer then the JAL/ QANTAS. It looks a heap newer, and has much nicer paintings on the wall. The little food available at the QF BA
lounge is such: whole fruit, chopped fruit, nuts, sandwiches, crisps, and some other food. hot beverages, cold beverages, and liquor
looking out from where the TV
FOOD area... sorry it didn't upload all the way.
Picture from the lounge
I plugged in my dell and my Ipod, got some food, a fizzy lemonade and sat back and relaxed for about 20 minutes reading my book. I then thought of some thing that now I thank my self for doing: putting all of the pictures from my camera on my computer, so that I would have more room on the camera. After doing this I took a few pictures of the club and then made some calls to Alaska. Soon after the nice lady came and got me to tell me it was 6.
Taking the elevator down I arrived at the 4th floor so that I could go to the JAL/ QANTAS lounge. Once I got in I noticed that the half that said first class was closed. Now do note that you can go in the first class part even if your flying business class. But the lady said that it wasn't open yet. I found this weird, but what ever. As she checked my ticket a man that had just got booted out of the BA
/QF goes to the lady "Ohhh here's another person that was just kicked out of the other lounge," pointing to me. I laughed, then took my ticket, put my stuff away plugged in my DVD player and went to go get a few nibbles and a drink.
I watched Date Movie.
I then went down stairs into the main terminal to pick up some snacks for the plane ride. I must say that it was a bit of a let down. There is nothing down there. After walking a while just to pick up some gum and Mentos I headed back up stairs to the lounge. I was also a bit bummed because they don't have any phones in this lounge. Yet they do have booths that you can either use you computer in or make a call with your cellular. I just used my mobile. I realized that the "First class" part of the lounge had opened up so I went over there so that I could relax in front of the telly. I bet you are thinking that I like to watch a lot of television, I don't normally watch this much. just being in a lounge for a while with nothing better to do you get stuck watching it. a little bit of R and R is fine after the past two weeks of running/soccer training, plus games and practices.
I left to go to the flight earlier then the lounge attendant said that I need to, because I wanted to check out the plane and maybe get the registration. Well when I got here it was PACKED. I walked over teenagers playing card on the ground and babies sleeping in the middle of the path. But much to my dismay it was to dark outside to see the registration.
They called for pre-boarding for those people needing extra time getting settled into the plane. I like the set up for boarding in LAX
, there is a line for Business class and a line for economy. After about 8 minutes I overheard one of the check-in people saying to some one else to call for boarding... for some reason it took a while so another check-in man told us waiting in front of the business class line to come up. I offered for the lady to the side of me to go first, but she said she was waiting for her husband, so I was the first to board (not including "pre-boarded" people).
Qantas flight 26
Boarding at 21:00 (9:00PM)
Departure time: 21:40 (9:40PM)
Flight time: 12:30
Business class, upstairs Bulkhead seat 11A
I handed over my ticket to the flight attendant at the door, who surprisingly didn't look at me differently because I was a kid and said "Welcome on board sir. Your seat is right up the stairs." Grabbing my stuff I clambered up the stairs into one of the best places on earth... or should I say in the sky. I was welcomed by Kyle (that is also my name), who was one of my flight attendants for the flight. After taking the stuff out of my bag that I wanted and storing it in the super cool, super storage bin beside the window I tried to jam my roll-on into the over head locker, well lucky for me since I was sitting in 11A which is at the front of the upper-deck, the over head locker is smaller. Kyle came to the rescue; he took my bag and put it above row 13, where it fit in just fine.
Since I was the only passenger on the upper deck so far I decided that it was time to take out the handy camera and to take a heap of shots. The door to the cockpit was open and I glanced a peak into there, I tried to get my courage up to ask one of the flight attendants running around if I could go up and meet the pilots. I didn't know how busy / how strict they were about letting people up there so I thought against it. Maybe I'll pluck up the courage to ask on the return.
Soon more people started to poke their heads up out of the belly of the beast and the cabin started to fill. My seatmate turned up quickly and we said our pleasantries, shook hands and settled back into the seats. I then had the brilliant idea to see if this craft had AVOD... I just about screamed like a little girl in joy because on the front of the movie catalog it said Video on Demand. 60 movies, SCORE! I put together my play list of movies in my head. Failure to Launch, The Last Holiday, King Kong and a few others.
The safety procedure was then showed. Most seats the T.V. is on the seat back in front of them, but since I was in a bulkhead it came out of the armrest, which is really nice when in flight. Yet that also meant that I couldn't watch the safety procedure on the telly because we can't have the TV
out during taxi, take off or landing. Qantas being one of the safest airlines in the world also has the flight attendants doing the little "show."
We taxied for a bit then stopped and the pilot got on the intercom to greet us and to tell us that there would be a bit of a hold up while we waited for the planes in front of us to take off. After sitting there listening to my Ipod for a bit we started to roll. Take off on a 747 always gets my blood going, as I know that I am in for a nice treat on the flight. I listened to "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, because I was thinking about how crazy lucky I was, while we did a 48 second roll into the air. As we started to get further up into the sky I put on "Don't get lost in Heaven" by the Gorillaz. I like to put on music that is relevant whenever I take off or land. Also another little thing that I do is I snap my fingers when the wheels leave and touch back down on the ground. Don't ask... its something that my cousin and myself have been doing for a LONG time.
Once we were up the head flight attendant got on the intercom and talked to us for a while. The HOT
towels were then passed out.
I got my amenity pack and went to the toilet to brushed my teeth, put on my socks and then went back to my seat.
Contents...there is no comb for your hair.
Kyle came around and gave us the dinner menu with the breakfast menu stuck in the top. The breakfast menu is an ingenious idea. This is because you tick in what you want from the different lists of food and beverages and put your name and seat number at the bottom. Then the flight attendants come and pick it up before you go to sleep. In the morning the flight attendants can wake you up when the food is ready, and not before. So this helps in maximizing sleep, and in the morning you might be a bit tired to properly register what the flight attendant is telling you is available for breakfast
I looked over the menu for our Tea and decided that I would have the chicken if the mayonnaise wasn't already on it, if it was I would have the beef. I asked Kyle, he said "sorry mate its already on there." So I went with the Beef. Here is the menu:
Coriander Herb Crusted Beef Fillet with Pumpkin Puree and cucumber salsa * Healthier option
Honey Dijon Glazed Sea Bass with crushed Peas and Buttered Baby Carrots
A Large bowl of Zucchini, cannelloni Bean and Speck Soup
Toasted Chicken Mayonnaise, Cheddar Cheese, Mushroom and bell Pepper Panini

We invite you to enjoy a range of snacks and drinks from our inflight bar at anytime through out your flight. Your flight attendant will be pleased to assist you.

The menu looks really classy. The beef was really good. I used just a little bit of the pumpkin sauce and it made it really nice!
that is a pen that they give you to keep, very handy indeed
For dessert I asked for the sliced fruit, then I asked if the orange cake was nice, they said that it was and gave me both the sliced fruit and the cake. I must say that the cake was outstanding!!!
I had already started to watch my movie, which was The Last Holiday, because Failure to Launch which was failing to launch, as in I couldn't find it in the menu, but no worries.
Once done with the food, which took awhile to finish, I asked for a lemonade and a hot chocolate. Reclining my seat proved to feel good! It felt even better once I put on the massage function! After the movie was done I got up and stretched my legs down stairs. Once back up stairs I took a few more pictures whilest the mood lighting was in place, which is VERY nice. I love it whenever it changes colors, like a bleeding sun that is setting. Its very relaxing indeed.
The Seat in my opinion is great. It is comfortable and works well!
When you sit in the seat on the left is
the sleeve that holds all magazines and such, this is on the seat shell.
the armrest that reclines when the seat reclines and
the controls for the seat are on the left armrest.
On the right there is the telly that comes out of the armrest by lifting the armrest up and to the side. Then you click a button and it pops up by itself.
On a normal seat with the T.V. on the seat back in front of you the place where the T.V. is a place that you can put personal belongings like journals or your amenity kit.
Further back on the armrest, behind the television, there is a small cubby that you can open to put your glasses in.
then below that there is another area to put stuff.
On the side of the hard shell there is a place for your water bottle and
a place to plug-in your QANTAS sound reducing headphones.
Above that there is a reading light that you can move around to your pleasure.
When your seat is reclined inside of the hard shell there is a light that you turn on by touching it, there are two settings: low and high.
Also one of the smartest design points of the seat is that when reclined there are two buttons inside of the hard shell. One is for reclining your seat to a bed, and the other is putting it back into a seat. This is really handy because when reclined the controls for the seat are at the end of the armrest making it hard reach
The seat is not at much of an angle, I could barley tell that it wasn't level to the ground!
I went back and talked to the other flight attendant for a while and got the registration of the craft, it is printed just inside of the galley. I also picked up some fruit and another hot chocolate. Went back to my seat and watched some more television. Soon I realized that my seat partner had gone to sleep, so I put down the privacy screen so that the light from the monitor wouldn't wake him. I then got tired, put on my eye shades and hit the hay... or should I say "hit the sky."
I fell right to sleep with help of the eyeshades and music from the QANTAS radio. I didn't stir the whole night, which is REALLY good. I was sleeping on a cloud... literally.
Once I woke I got up and used the rest room for about the 5 time so far on the trip and then walked up and down the isle to stretch my legs. Once back at my seat I started to watch King Kong, I wanted to see the edited part where King Kong is holding onto the empire state building and he slashes at the plane, but the T.V. was turned off to soon, bugger. My Aunt and uncle are really lucky as they got to go to the World premier of all the Lord of the Rings movies and then over to the after party, where they got a lot of the actors to sign their ticket as well with Peter Jackson!
here are some pictures form my last trip:
ME from November 2005
I was served my breakfast , which I must admit was delish.
It included (from memory)
Eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit with yogurt, Peach energy smoothie, hot chocolate, croissant and some other things that are slipping my mind at the moment. Another HOT
Before we landed I went back and talked to Kyle and the other Flight attendant for a while and asked about what cologne was the best out of the ones that I could buy. I choose the Calvin Klein travel edition, which was pretty good. I also asked if I could have another amenity pack to give to my nana (as she didn't have one last time I was down in NZ
) the other flight attendant goes "SURE! Here is one, ah and here is another kind. Oh did I give you a first class one yet?" I said "No." so guess what he did, gave me a first class one... I do find it strange that they carry First class ones on a aircraft that doesn't have First class. Oh well I'm not complaining.
here are the different kinds:
Compartment number one
Compartment Number two
Extrerior, this is the one that was being handed out to women
Mens First class
one side of the inside of the kit
First class card
I put all my "Junk" back in my bags and prepared for landing, which meant taking a few more pictures, used the toilet and relaxed with my music. Which included listening to my cousins song and a few other relaxing ones! Coming into AKL
was dark, I normally don't fly into NZ
during the winter, so normally when I arrive its already a bit light out, not to day though. We taxied to the gate and I took a deep breath as I prepared to say goodbye to the craft that had done a feat that some people would say impossible: take tons of weight into the air and fly for 12 hours, it truly is amazing if you think about it.
As I left Kyle said that he would look for me out on the harbor. We said our good byes and I headed down stairs where they were holding the economy passenger back as we passed. we exited out of a different door then what we had come in, when we had entered the plane in LAX
it was the door directly across from the stairs. but in AKL
I had to go through the small economy cabin of about 3 rows and the first 2 rows of the business class cabin.
Alas I left the plane and took on last glance at the back and then turned around and marched my way into New Zealand. Just after passing regency duty free there is this Maori carving that you go under, I took a picture of this and then threw away the apples that I had in my bag. This is where I think I lost my camera. As I went down the escalator to immigration I had the Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin playing on my Ipod, hehe. I took my headphones out and put my Ipod in my bag.
The New Zealand Citizen line was really short and I was up talking to the agent in no time. Here is how the conversation went:
Agent: "so I see here its been about 4 and a half months seen you were last here, where have you been since you've been away from New Zealand?"
Me: "I was in Alaska"
Agent: "oh okay, what were you doing there?"
Me: "Family, I go back and forth between New Zealand and Alaska"
Agent: "what do you do for school?"
Me: "I work out of my text books when I'm away"
Then he went on to ask more questions... AHHHHH so much.
Once I got through that FUN experience I went over to the conveyor belt that had my flight number over it. My bag was one of the first out, which is always a good thing.
I then headed over to get my bags scanned; I was cleared with no problem and out into the lobby.
I was expecting my Aunt and my cousin to pick me up, so I was looking for two people, I didn't see them. So I just sat there and read, after about and hour I got up and started to search around, there was my Aunt sitting on a seat with her head down... sleeping. Well I went up to her and I gave her a bit of a fright when I taped her on her shoulder, she said she was sorry. She hadn't gotten any sleep because her sons ball was earlier that night. so she had gone to that, then to the after party, THEN straight out to pick me up at 5:00AM. It was okay. We then headed out to their Mercedes, which is one nice thing about staying with my aunt and uncle
Once we got back to their house she went to sleep and I just relaxed in their theatre and watched some morning TV
stuff and then went into the computer suit and much to my dismay found out that my camera was missing, so that's when the calls to the airport started. I stayed in Auckland for a few days then headed over to the airport to go down to ROT
This was on Air NZ
I was the first on and once the people behind me had gotten settled they started talking to each other about how cold it had been down south. They went on, and on and on. I was hoping that it wasn't to bad in Rotorua. Then she started talking about how she just came over from England on Cathay Pacific in economy on an Airbus. She was mad, because on the 747's she had been on before she had gotten more space and such. I turned around and now all three of us started to talk aviation, perfect! The "flight attendant" came and said hello and popped into the co-pilots seat, I laughed to myself, pilot and flight attendant! Well I was surprised when I heard an automated voice doing the safety procedure on such a small aircraft, but I guess that its rather smart, as the pilot and copilot should be dealing with the matter of flying the plane.
Once up I just relaxed with my book and music. It is a short hop of about 35 minutes. It was really cool during decent and landing into ROT
as you could look straight ahead out of the cockpit and watch us land! Great fun.
Anyways as we pulled into the terminal I saw some more of my cousins waving to the plane. I got off and walked into ROT
, said my hellos. I was thankful they had changed where the bags came out, as they use to come out outside, but now they have a conveyor belt and everything inside, which is nice if it's a bit nippy out.
I will be flying down to NSN
on the 8th of July then back up AKL
on the 14th then back up to LAX
and onto SEA
on the 17th, hopefully I'll get a stop over in SEA
as a friend who is a pilot for AS
said that he was flying on AS
115 on the 18th, so I'll try to get seats on his flight!
Thank you for getting through my report, sorry for the lack of pictures, but I'll get some on a disposable on the way back.
Comments and questions are GREATLY welcomed
