BRU-WAW-BRU On LOT Polish Airlines (Pics)

Wed Aug 09, 2006 8:08 am

Ok, so here's my attempt to do a trip report, although it might be more of a pics report after all. It's a short flight, people.

It was time again to visit my brother in Warsaw, so the plans were made in advance to get a good fare.

I arrived early at the airport, a bus from Antwerp takes about 35 minutes. The check-in was empty, and with pre-booked seats it took less than two minutes.

Check-in:

Brussels Airport, not so busy, despite the long weekend:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010815.jpg

B-pier (non-Schengen departures):

LOT Boeing 737-400, SP-LLC, I was glad to fly the very same plane that a present Pope flew to Rome from his first visit to Poland:

The cabin and the safety demo, done in Polish, English and also French and Dutch on the tape:

Take-off

I'm 1,78m and felt the legroom was OK:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010834.jpg

Beef stew was served, was surprised to get a hot meal:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010838.jpg

And a tasty one, too, hence I've eaten it all:

Blooody Mary, tea and some sweets to make you feel, whaaaaaaaaa. Great service, I might add!

Descent into WAW:

After landing:

After deplaning, bussed to the terminal:

After 3 great days in Warsaw, it was time to go back to work, I was pretty excited, as my scheduled flight was to be on an Embraer 175, my first time on that plane.

As usual on the Sunaday afternoon, WAW was a chaos with 3 heavyies departing for North America, they had a separate check-ins, which meant all European flights were to queue in what was left of the desks:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010973.jpg

After long wait, finally, at the airside, I've got my hands on Tyskie, the best Polish beer for me, however served in Pilsner)-Urquell glass:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010976.jpg

My flight seems to be on time:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010977.jpg

On the bus to the plane, I could snacth few pics of the new Terminal 2 under construction ( Gosh, we wait for that one to be finished!):

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010980.jpg

My ride to Brussels: Embraer 175, SP-LIA, the first delivered to LOT:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010983.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010992.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1010994.jpg

The cabin, still "fresh smell to it":

Legroom: perfect!

taxi:

This should be in self-pics thread, but what the heck:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1020005.jpg

Downtown Warsaw after take-off:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1020011.jpg

And climbing away:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1020020.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1020021.jpg

Again a beef stew, be it with a different sauce this time, delicious nonetheless:

Then I sorta fell asleep, during some turbulence, being awake with a noise of plane touching down:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/LO231/P1020027.jpg

I hope you enjoyed the pics, any coments or questions?

I'm not good at writing at all, I hope you got the feel of what it's like to travel on Polish Airlines, though.

Regards,

Nice report! Lots of great pics. I had my first E-175 flight last month. Neat little aircraft. The overhead bins can be pretty stubborn though.

Great shots. The E-175 reminds me of a 737-800 for some reason.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with your writing! It's a very good tripreport with nice pics  Smile

The service from LOT sounds amazing, especially the meals they provice in Y-class.
I really enjoyed reading your tripreport.

Great report! Love the picture arriving in WAW at dusk, somehow my favourite time at an airport, especially when departing!
They seem to get stew and noodles just right all the time in Europe! Always tastes great. Years ago Western Airlines tried to do it in Y-Class YVR-SFO and I also had it on another carrier, can't remember which and both times it tasted like ...t! The noodles were overcooked and the meat tasteless.
I really am impressed with the service as you are.
Cheers,

Nice picture report.  Smile LOT seems to be quite a service-friendly carrier even on short flights, reminds me a lot of CSA.

Nice report; I flew SP-LLC summer 2004 WAW-LHR, great flight. Also I had full meal service on LHR-WAW and WAW-LHR too as you did to BRU.

I continued my flights though WAW-RZE (Rzeszow Poland) and RZE-WAW, still had a snack on the ATR-72 to RZE and the 735 on the return. LOT is a pleasant airline...I could have flown DTW-ORD-WAW-RZE & same for the return back when I flew to see family in Poland in summer 2004, though LOT was one of the more expensive carriers. So I booked DTW-YYZ-LHR-WAW-RZE, the Canada/Transatlantic via Air Canada, then in Europe via LOT, and same way for return. Maybe next time for LOT and their 767's across the Atlantic.
Flying a plane is no diff. from riding a bicycle. Its just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. -'Airplane'

LO231, I really enjoyed your report. You don't need to write a lot - the pictures tell the whole story. Thanks for posting!  spin

LO231, I really enjoyed your report.

Thanks guys for the replies, much appreciated!

Yes, I was surprised by the standard of service LOT now provides. Just a year ago you'd get a cold sandwich, beer, wine or refreshment.

Now it's newspaper at the door of the aircraft ( when I asked one, I got 2 different ones from the purser), first basket round of moist towelettes, full bar (incl liquors) service, then the meal service, another round of drinks (when you ask tea or coffee, F/A asks if you'd like something cold or alcohol and vice versa), then a basket service with some sweets...

As I mentioned, I fell asleep, when I woke up, a "Prince Polo" wafer thing was on the seat next to me, F/A didn't wake me up but also didn't deny me the pleasure of having something sweet when I woke up  Smile

They're going the right way, I'm sure  bigthumbsup

I'm going to PRG meet end of August, I'll compare OK and LO then!

Hey Peter,

This is a fantastic report with great pics, I really enjoyed reading and watching.

Cool, such a detail is nice for your flight logbook in the "remark" field.

I am speachless, I would never expect a hot meal on this rather short flight.  Wow!

Quoting LO231 (Thread starter):

I am even more speachless and I can only agree with you, fantastic service!

Quoting LO231 (Thread starter):
I've got my hands on Tyskie, the best Polish beer for me

Tyskie is a friggin' great beer, I drink it frequently since it is available in my local beverage store. Is LOT also serving Tyskie on board?

I have to say that I am very impressed from LOT since I read this report. Actually I am planning to fly on them to the USA to get finally the 767-200, I hope that I can make it possible before the end of the year.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, LOT's going in a good direction service-wise.

I'm not sure about that since I opted for vodka, I think they serve Zywiec, at least they did in April.

If you do that, make sure to upgrade yourself with your C***hansa miles, they have a great service in C, I've heard not-so-nice stories on their US runs in economy, though...

-That is a suprise, never though i'd see than in 'Y' on a short segment.

The sooner the terminal extension open the better, the current facilities are terrible.

Hope you enjoyed you 175 flight, flew a couple of 170's myself, very nice  Smile

Look forward to more reports in the future.
