PHL-LGW-PHL On US Pics

Sat Aug 26, 2006 11:46 am

I took this trip last September, I just recently joined a.net so I am posting the report now.

It was time to go on vacation, and off to London it was.

Flt.98
Airbus A330
Depart -- 8:45 PM
Arrive -- 9:00 AM (was more or less on time)
Seat -- 33F

The seat I choose was in the middle section, but an isle seat. It is the first row of seats where the center section goes from being 4 seats across to 3. On sites like www.seatguru.com frown upon the seat, but I like it due to the extra leg room. The flight was 100% full in economy, no idea about Envoy, but before the flight they were trying to find volunteers to switch to a flight to MAN then connect to LGW, so I assume Envoy was pretty packed as well. Because it was a night flight I have no pictures, nothing to much to report here, other than the normal chicken or beef meal. AVOD is always nice, and keeps one entertained throughout the duration of the flight. Customs and immigration did not take too long, caught the Gatwick express into town, got to the hotel and started the sightseeing.

After a week of traveling around it was time to head home though.

Arrive -- 3:35 PM
Seat -- 25H

The flight was super empty, I had 2 seats to my self, some people had the entire center section to them selves. Nice relaxing why to head home. The gate next to us was the one of the Northwest flights headed back to MSP.

Boarding was on time, we left the gate on time, and made our way to the runway, passing some interesting planes I might add! Many I would never get to see here in the US.

Starting our take off roll, we passed the remote stands:

I was very impressed with the line-up of planes waiting to take on board passengers.
I was also pleased to see we made a 180 degree turn after departure and received a wonderful view of Gatwick, and a final goodbye!

There is a lot of activity in the afternoon at Gatwick. I snapped a few pictures of the English country side, and a contrail from the tip of our wing.

I settled in for the 8 hour flight across the Atlantic. A meal was served again, same choices of course. Again the AVOD was a nice time waster. Before I knew it I could finally see home!

The plane floated down for a smooth touchdown..

Customs was super quick, it took about 20 minutes for baggage to come through, even though there were no other flights arriving at that time, typical PHL. Overall it was great flight, I love flying US Airways, hopefully though they add some more European destinations. Comments please! I hope everyone enjoyed.

Nice report!! I have flown the US A330 on 3 PHL-FCO roundtrips plus a PHL-CDG Roundtrip. and the 762 on a PHL-SNN and PHL-AMS roundtrip. I agree the AVOD is nice.

Welcome to my RU list PHLstudent. This is one good trip report. I have a Plat credit card with US as I enjoy flying them to and from ELM. Welcome aboard to A-NET.

Thank you very much! I just got back home after leaving the house at 6:45 AM for a day of flying. It took me from PHL-ORD-TPA and then back direct to PHL. Sampling UA, Ted, and US Airways. I have a bunch of pictures from the first 2 flights, be on the look out for this trip report in the coming days. (not a year this time!)

Nice report, many thanks.

I've had quite a few US flight between LGW & PHL&CLT in Envoy & 'Y', all have been great as have the domestic segments.

Look forward to flying US again soon.
