DTW-PTY Via Houston On CO. (pictures)

Well........
Being an expat from the UK living in the USA, my family seem to think I have an obligation to fly back to Manchester every vacation chance I get. Well during the trip home in July DTW-MAN I told the folks that there is too much around here for me to explore in the new world than going back to the place I spent 25 years growing up for my vacations.........

So here i was on Friday 1st September at Metro Airport McNamara Terminal embarking on my first journey which doesn't involve me landing at Ringway.

I am a committed Tigers fan, I bought the T-shirt on a previous trip to Jacobs field to watch the Tiger play a few months ago.......

To say I was excited about the trip would be a huge understatement. 4 days 3 nights flight and hotel only set me back $730 on cheaptickets.com and we booked a flight with COPA.......however I knew in reality, it was all with Continental.

We made a fair trade with the check in counter lady (whom was fantastic) she gave us 12 E and D but asked us to be one of her volunteers for extra security screening..
well worth exit row seats in my opinion.

so after security my partner Jo pulls out a lighter from her pocket I am simply amazed and flabbergasted, she insisted she forgot.........

Our gate was B8, but seen as we had plenty of time, we mosied over to C33 to the sports bar where we knew we could smoke our heads off before the flights, where Jo casually pulled said lighter from her pocket and started lighting up for all and sundry to see.

Now, I have forgotten my notes for the report, so most of these facts/figures are off the top of my head.

As boarding time grew near we walked over to B8 and were pretty much last on board and our seats were fantastic. I loved the 737 (and the winglets)

Row 12 on this plane only had 2 seats...so we had room aplenty.

The flight was pretty nice all things considered. The plane was new, the stewards were excellent, the food was a bonus as I never expect it anymore, it was just a little turkey or ham sandwich and I appreciated it.

Aside from that the flight was a typical domestic flight within the USA, albeit a good ine in that it left on time and arrived early allowing us a little more time to make our connection in Houston.

Can't remember what gate we came into but remember having to take the train to E concourse.

The Houston Bush Airport was really quite nice but quieter than I thought but it added to it's intimacy.............(It was WAY busier on the flight home though....)
again, can't remember, see the reg of the craft to take us to PTY but I did notice the boeing frame number on the plate above the entry door was 700, so hopefully that may help someone get the reg for me. It was also the same plane that took us home yesterday.

For a wee English lad like myself, the flight across Mexico / Gulf / Central America was a wonderous excitable occasion, for someone who had only ever done tranatlantics and holiday charters, this was something new and I lapped it up.

Even the cloud formations had me open mouthed.

plus I was VERY comfortable in my exit row seat (although this config had 3 seats in the row)

It got dark on our approach into Tocumen, but once below the clouds it just added to my excitement to see the Gatu locks on the Atlantic side, then 5 mins later to be flying over the Pacific..........2 oceans in 5 minutes....

What can I say about Panama, other than I have never met a bunch of friendlier, warmer, content bunch of folks in all my life. The country is just buzzing and I loved every minute of my holiday.

Here are a few snaps of the place, I loved the Miraflores Locks and the Amador Causeway for the excellent restaurants there.

Go to Panama City folks, it's well worth it.

Hey MichiganMan, glad you enjoyed PTY. Although I live in Canada, I was born and raised in Panama City. It's a great country with lots to offer.

Oh yeah... nice TR and pics!

Cheers,

It really is. I just wish I had a bit more time and money to hire a car and see some of the interior.... maybe next time.
