EWR To TPA On CO(no Pics Yet)

Mon Sep 18, 2006 6:27 am

I just joined this forum after viewing and reading several months....Here is my first trip report....I took digital pics, but have not determined how to add them to the post yet....Anyway, here are the details....I decided to take a week's vacation to visit my mother in the Tampa area, so...in mid-July, I booked a round trip on Orbitz from EWR to TPA....CO had the best rate for the trip, so I selected them, and proceeded to select my flights and seats....I ended up with CO Flight#1518 departing EWR at 7:25AM on 9/16, and a return home on CO on 9/22..of which a separate report will be posted upon my return home . After all was booked, I eagerly awaited trip day....It began on Saturday, 9/16 with a 4:30AM departure from home for the 45 minute drive to EWR....After getting a bit disoriented, I finally located Economy parking P6 and parked my car. Took the shuttle bus from there to Terminal C....the bus was filled to capacity at the early hour of 5:40AM, and most of the riders disembarked at C....I checked in curbside and checked one bag and kept a small carryon with me....Security was quick and painless...only a few people in front of me...I placed my laptop, and belongings, including shoes into totes and was through security in less than 5 minutes....Off to Gate 81 where I arrived at approximately 6AM and awaited boarding, which commenced at 6:50AM....My seat was 31A on a CO 737-900, which was a window seat in the very last row on the left side of the cabin. The plane loaded quickly and we pushed back at 7:25AM.....we taxiied all the way down to the South end of the runway and took the runway immediately as there was nothing backed up ahead of us....We took off in a Northerly direction before swinging around to the left to head South....We ascended through a low-mid level cloud deck and were rewarded with an interesting view of the cloud formations....Beverage service included juices and/or coffee and food consisted of a muffin. We were handed complimentary headsets, and a movie played on the monitors, which I did not watch, as I spent most of the flight looking out the window....We settled in at FL38 and the flight was relatively free of bumps. Clouds obscured the view of the ground for much of the way down until we got within 80 miles or so of TPA....and were well into our descent....We ended up swinging around to come into TPA from the South....I got some nice shots of Tampa Bay as we were coming in on Final, with some contrails streaming off the wing....Landing was smooth and taxi was quick, which resulted in an arrival at the gate 20 minutes ahead of schedule. A ride on the tram to baggage claim and my bag came off the belt after only a 5 minute wait. The limo service driver showed up a few minutes later, and a 35 minute drive to New Port Richey to my final destination culminated a very quick and smooth flight down.....Hopefully, my return next weekend will be just as smooth. If I can figure out how to upload pics, they will come soon.
