ABZ > DXB Via CDG On AF (With Pics)

Fri Sep 22, 2006 9:04 pm

Hi All,

I've been meaning to write this trip report for a while now but seeing as I've not had much time to myself what with going back to school etc. I haven't been able to, so here goes...

Wednesday 12th July 2006
ABZ > CDG
AF5559
Departure Time: 5:10pm(ish)
Seat: 3F

When we were on the road to ABZ, an Emirates SkyCargo lorry past us....spooky coincidence as EK don't really have anything to do with ABZ! (When we were taxing to the runway we saw it at the airport!)

We arrived at the airport at about 1pm with loads of time to spare before our flight, and seeing as the check in desks weren't even open when we arrived we had no alternative than to just sit and let time pass.

Eventually we discovered we were allowed to check in through the AMS check in desk, so we did. I had previously checked me and my friend in online but has not been able to get us seats beside each other on the CDG > DXB leg, so we asked the check in assistant if it was possible to swindle the seats and fortunately she did....and we ended up with the exit row seats! Lots of leg room but the only thing I have to complain about is the seat pocket is on the wall and it's for both of you so not a lot of room...

So anyway, back to the ABZ > CDG leg...

We proceeded through central search and sat outside departure gate 1 waiting for our aircraft to pull into the stand. Unfortunately it was delayed by an hour so we departed an hour later than expected, but I wasn't too concerned as we had bags of time in CDG.

Our aircraft was ERJ145 F-GUFD, operated by Regional for AF.

When we arrived in CDG, we got off the plane and collected our bags that had to be stored in the hold as they were too big for carry on.

We proceeded through CDG and found gate F54 in Terminal 2F which had the details about Dubai up on it, including the flight crews names, details of the aircraft and details of our arrival city which was, altogether, a nice touch.

Wednesday 12th July 2006
CDG > DXB
AF0530
Departure Time: 11:30pm(ish)
Seat: 29B (Exit Row)

When it approached 10:40pm Paris time, the boarding commenced with two queues: one for Tempo (us) and one for Espace D'Affaires.

We boarded the aircraft, which was an A332, but I didn't catch the registration Sad

On board the aircraft, we had PTV's which I was very pleased to see. And as an added bonus we had the ability to use the outside camera, something I'd never done before!

The flight attendants came round with menus for the flights meals and drinks, which, again was a nice touch.

For my meal, I chose Chicken fricassee, cream sauce, basil mashed potatoes, black olives and oven-dried tomatoes..It was superb! Desert consisted of Apricot tartlet. For drinks I had a bottle of white wine, cognac and water!

I managed to sleep some of the 7 hour flight which I was quite happy with and woke up to find us an hour from landing. The seat belt signs were turned on and we prepared for landing in DXB. The landing camera was switched on on everyone's TV so we could watch ourselves landing which was thrilling in itself.

Taxi time was very long, about 30 minutes in all which I found rather annoying, and when we embarked from the plane (as we were on a remote stand) we were bussed to the terminal past the new development, Terminal 2. I tell you what, DXB is something else! Here's a photo of our aircraft, taken from the bus shortly after embarking:

I hope you enjoyed my rather sketchy report and pictures, and will hopefully find time to write about the return leg on August 7th!

Hey - nice report.....all that extra legroom looked pretty good.

One question - is that your PTV monitor on the bulkhead in front, or did you have one built into your seat?

Cheers,

Alan.

It was built into the seat...press a button and drag it out from under the arm of your chair.
