VS300 DEL-LHR Emergency On-Board (Part 1)

Mon Oct 16, 2006 11:50 pm

Greetings to all,

This is my first trip report so please forgive small mistakes and other errors.

Introduction:

My father, my aunt (my father’s sister), her son and I went to London for a week to drop my cousin there as he had got admission into the London School of Economics.

Flight Details:

Airlines: Virgin Atlantic
Flight No.: VS-300
Aircraft: Airbus A340-300
Sector: DEL (Delhi) TO LHR (London Heathrow)
Class: Upper Class (re-configured with the upper class suites)
Seat: 5D
Class: Upper class (Business class-highest on all Virgin Atlantic Flights)
Date of departure: 21st September 2006
Scheduled time of departure: 13.25
Actual time of departure: 14.00
Scheduled time of arrival: 18.10
Actual time of arrival: 18.30

Check-in:

Check-in was very smooth. I didn’t want to sit with the rest of my family so I told the check-in girl to give me a seat in the “A” Zone and my family should gets seats in the “B” Zone (Virgin Atlantics Airbus A340-300 has two zone in the upper class- “A” Zone and the “B” Zone). I got seat 5D which was in the middle section of the “A” Zone. My family got seats- 15D, 16A and 16D which were at the end of the “B” Zone of the Upper Class. After check-in was done, we proceeded to the lounge.

Lounge:

The lounge at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s terminal-2 is called “The Clipper Lounge”, shared by various airlines like- Austrian, Virgin Atlantic, Jet Airways, Lufthansa etc. The lounge is very pale and too simple to meet international standards. The service is poor and there are not enough seats. Though, the small selection of juices and sandwiches was rather good. The lounge does not have free internet access. It has massaging chairs. The view from the windows is not good at all. You can barely see one or two aircrafts. I could just see an India Airlines international flight. All of us sat in the lounge for a while, but then we got so bored we decided to got o security check and then proceed to the aircraft even though they hadn’t announced boarding in the lounge for the Upper Class passengers.

Boarding:

I was the first to board amongst all my family. When I boarded a very friendly cabin crew member- Sachin- welcomed me with a smile. I explained him the entire story that I was traveling with my family and didn’t want to sit with them so had requested for a seat in the “A” Zone.

In-flight:

Since this was my first time on Virgin Atlantic, I was quite excited. When I boarded the first impression of the Upper Class cabin was great and I was fascinated. Then I went the much talked about onboard bar. The bar was just great. Handling the bar on the flight was Senior Cabin Crew- Priya. A lovely young girl. After getting an Apple juice for my self, the very second I sat on my seat, a beautiful hot girl in a white skirt and a black T-shirt comes up to me and says “Good afternoon sir, welcome onboard”. She was the in-flight beauty therapist for our flight. She asked me that which treatment I would like to get done. Before I could say anything she said “Unfortunately with the new security rules at London’s Heathrow Airport, I was unable to carry my manicure tools, so I could only offer you a hand massage or a neck and shoulder massage”. I went in for the hand massage. Then she says “The treatment is not guaranteed, we randomly select passengers, if I am unable to do your desired treatment, and if you are not sleeping during the flight I would issue a priority card for you which would enable you to have your treatment during your next flight without any problem”. She was very friendly. Her name was- Nisha.

To be continued...
The next part, am sure will be more interesting as it will contain the emergency...
Comments and questions are always welcome...
Regards,
Anirudh...

Why did you need to repeat the class? And what is it with the "highest on all VS flights" all about?  Confused

sorry that was a mistake ...and as far as the highest class offered by virgin atlantic means that upper class is the best class offered by vs ..there is nothing better than that on vs..

Maybe we need a separate one for people who take things too seriously. Then they can complain about reading through a post to find out what the inflight emergency was only to discover that it will be revealed in the "next episode".
The rest of us can just stay here and make lighthearted banter about the matter.

Welcome to A.net Anirudhvs.  Smile

It really wasn't about that, and if you check my posting history, taking things seriously really isn't my MO. A little content, and a little less of "I explained to him the entire story of how I didn't want to sit with my family" would have gone a long way. I guess maybe if he shared the story with us too it might have been more interesting.

Maybe it sounds perfectly normal to you but mentioning the class of your flight twice and also writing that it's the best class you can get on all of VS's flights is kind of childness and showing off. I would be as excited as you if I flew VS upper class but if you only mention this once, it will already create a Wow factor anyway. You don't need to mention specifically. But again, different cultures, different backgrounds. Plus, you seem to be very young anyway  Smile

Seriously, good start to the report, now lets get to the important bit; the flight! A bit of advice, unless your trip report is going to be enormously long and have hundreds of pictures and videos in it, try not to break it up into part one, part two etc... It just makes it easier to read when its all in one place Smile

Too bad. I´m still waiting for the "emergency" But boy, you do need a tougher skin to hang in this forum.

I didn't either!!! I completely missed that. I was waiting for the installment as though it was about to happen. Weird!!!!

Maybe we can agree to disagree here, but I do not feel an ounce of sympathy for the feedback this kid received. It is okay to draw attention to higher standards of service in premium cabins, but a bit overboard to do so with a sense of entitlement (Read: the author mentioning the "highest class of service" on VS upper cabin).

I also do not care to hear about the side drama of not wanting to sit next to one's family. Irrelevant details to the overall trip experience ought to be left out, especially considering the author did not even complete the TR nor describe the emergency! Failure to deliver on all accounts.

Next time, when I start writing a sentence like so, if I get the chance to write a second installment, once I finish telling you about the minor disagreement my mother had with her sister and they haven't spoken in 17 years,

I actually thought he was referring to the fact that VS do not have a first class. Some people might be surprised at that.
