NWA DTW-STL/STL-DTW 10-27/10-30

Tue Oct 31, 2006 4:38 am

This trip was far less eventful than my last DTW-STL/STL-MEM-DTW trip. I was flying with my rifle case and I didn't have two locks on it, only one, so I had to run down to the shop at the International arrivals gate and buy a set of locks. We were delayed when the DC-9-51 came in from BDL late. Then there was a mechanical problem and we were switched to a DC-9-51 coming in from MSY. There was also a gate change, from A-55 to A-21. We got out an hour and half late, but I have come to expect that on this flight to STL. This is the 4th delay I have had on that flight this year.

The trip was flown on DC-9-51 N765NC. My girlfriend, Stefanie, and I were not seated together, but I asked a man if I could trade my window for his center and he was more than happy to give it up. This was the 3rd flight in a week for Stefanie that week. She had flown LAX-DTW on Monday and DTW-EWR and back on Thursday. There were all kinds of St. Louis Cardinals fans on the plane. About 3/4 of the plane had on St. Louis or Detroit shirts or caps. The captain kept us informed inning by inning of the World Series score. This was the all important game four that the Cardinals. The Cards fans cheered and the Tigers fans booed. Just as we landed the game was over and people all over STL were hooping and hollering, it was great. I spent most of my life in St. Louis. I am a Cardinals fan and a Tigers fan.

The flight back was delayed a bit, but it arrived in Detroit right on the money so no big deal. I BSed with the agents at the gate at STL. Geno and John are always at the gate and they are cool to talk too. We talked about the Cardinals and the Rams. Those two guys are a credtit to NWA. We had a gate change, from A-5 to A-3, which is no big deal because they are connected and they are the only two NWA gates at STL. The trip back was on DC-9-32 N984US. The luggage was arriving on the carosel just as Stefanie and I walked up and we spent no more than 5 minutes at the baggage claim.

One of the coolest parts of today's flight is that we circled Detroit and came into DTW over my house. I also could see my work. I love it when I can fly over my house.

Overall this was a good trip and I will be back to STL next month...

I was flying in and out of STL this past week (flew in 10/26 GSO-ATL-STL, daytrip STL-DFW-ATL-STL on 10/28, back out 10/29 STL-ATL-GSO) and it was fun on the STL flights on Sat/Sun as the announcements all had something about "the home of the World Champions". Was a great time to have a business trip to STL though - was able to get tickets to Games 4 and 5 which was amazing.

My boss had tickets for game six and wanted me to go, but I had my trip to STL already planned. So I backed out. I was kicking myself that I turned down a chance to go to a World Series game, but the Cards took care of that so I didn't feel bad anymore.

I made and error (like the Tigers) on my original post. I should have said it was the all important game 5.

haha, that's cool that the captain did that. Nice report, even if you are a Cards fan.  Big grin I'm unfortunately doomed to a life of disappointment following the Cubs. At least next year with Lou Piniella it'll be entertaining. He doesn't know what he's getting himself into...
