US Airways CLT-FRA, C-Class, A 330-300, Pics!

Sat Dec 02, 2006 1:16 am

Hello everyone,

as promised here is my second trip-report about my flight from CLT to FRA.

US Airways
US 192

Date: 1st July 2006
From: Charlotte (CLT)
To: Frankfurt (FRA)

Airbus A 330-300
Seat: 3A

My flight actually started in Providence (PVD). I stayed one night in Charlotte to visit some friends. Because there wasn't any interesting on the flight PVD-CLT and the domestic First Class of US Airways isn't that exciting, I decided to start the report in Charlotte.

At the beginning a picture from Charlotte

The Marriot Charlotte City Center, where I stayed during my one day visit in Charlotte. It's very nice, I can recommend for a stay in Charlotte.

About two hours before departure, I went to the airport. The terminal in Charlotte wasn't very crowded, so Check-In went over very quickly. The US Airways Club, where is spent the time until departure, is one of the best of the US Airways Clubs. From the Club I was able to see the arrival of my aircraft which will bring me to the other side of the Atlantic. The A330-300 arrived from London.

They just made the boarding call when I arrived at the gate, so I could walk straight to my seat. After I took my seat, I was welcomed with a glass of campaign or orange juice.

nice and comfortable seats with a lot of legroom

About an hour after takeoff, the dinner was served. I don't remember the different meals, but it was very delicious. As usual, the US Airways crew was very nice and helpful.

The seats are very comfortable and have a lot of legroom. Also the IFE at the A330 is very good. You can choose between a lot of movies and music channels and its all on demand.

After sunrise, when we where over Great Britain breakfast was served. Coffee, juice, some fruits, croissant, jam ... Very delicious again

After breakfast we started our decent and the approach to Frankfurt and the end of a nice holiday was visible    In a couple of days, school will start again.

So I hope you enjoyed my second report. I'm looking forward for your comments.

If I have time again, I will write about my experience with IBERIA during my short two day trip from FRA to Valencia (VLC) via MAD, a which I made a few days ago to visit a friend.

Very nice report!

Pics were great and the seats looked very comfortable to have for such a long flight.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I never knew such a flight existed - must be a niche market. Comparing it to other American carriers, US seems to operate nice aircraft with an above-average IFE. But the seats look like they could use an upgrade. Anyway, glad you enjoyed your trip.

CLT is an important hub for US, so the flight is getting a healthy feed from their network. It's not a niche market by any means.

Nice trip report. US Airways does a nice job with Envoy Class. Here's a tip on your next trip on US Airways on in Envoy Class. When US Airways started flying A330s, they offered First Class in Row 1. It was a separate cabin with seats that convert to a flat bed. They have since stopped offering First Class, but the seats remain. If you book Envoy Class on an A330, make sure you try to reserve row 1 (not the same seats of their 767s). I've had row 1 a few times and it is much nicer...

Actually Row1 is now sold for I believe $100 extra on day of departure. Same service just a lay flat seat with a little more privacy, althought those seats are actually slightly narrower, due to the shape of the aircraft that far forward.

And nice report and photos.

Cheers

Thank´s for the report!
Seats are the same like Emirates has in their A330´s!
Pre-Departure Drink´s in plastic-cups??? Well, that´s strange for a premium cabin, isn´t it?

Nice report and pics. There's nothing better than sunset and sunrise over the atlantic from 35000 feet.
Does the seat turn into some sort of bed or does it just recline?

Pre-Departure Drinks in plastic-cups is strange for a business class service, but that wasn't like this at the flight from FRA to PHL. The Pre-Departure Drinks on that flight were served in glass cups.

The seats dont turn into a flat bed, but they are very comfortable

with an above-average IFE

I respectfully disagree. I experienced it on the A330 in both sardine class (PHL-FCO) and in row 1 on the way back, and I wasn't all that impressed. Not even the flight attendants seemed to know exactly how it worked, and of course there is ***NO*** moving map available, unlike with other airlines.  banghead

I was able to upgrade to Row 1, seat 1H (well 1G, but I switched with the guy next to me) on FCO-PHL this past September. It was nice to lay back for a while, especially since I had drank way too much the night before and had a 3-hour bus ride from rural Tuscany that morning. For some reason, an hour or so out of PHL, the recline portion started to malfunction, because I'd raise it up, and it would start to fall back to flat position on its own.

Quoting LGA777 (Reply 6):

Well damn, that's a lot less than the $500 they offered for PHL-FCO, and the $521 (400 Euros) that I paid to upgrade for FCO-PHL.

There's no moving map, but it is fully on-demand, unlike United and American's endless-tape-loop system.
USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.

Great trip report Transatlantic!  bigthumbsup  I really like those sunset shots especially with the wing in them. And that shot of the wing as the plane is banking over the river, 'tis great!  Smile
Those seats look quite comfy too...  cheerful

I'm flying US Airways in Envoy in January, from MAN-PHL, so it's nice to know what I can expect!

Nice report & photo's, thanks.

I've enjoyed numerous US A330 flights, including several in Envoy, all were pretty enjoyable - actually, I've yet to have a bad US Airways flight.

yes, they are the same. Just the TV is stored in the armrest and not in the back of the seat in front of you
