MAN-DXB-MAN J Class EK

Mon Mar 26, 2007 7:35 am

Ok this is a mini report and by far not upto my usual standards but I thought I would share my pics with you.

FLIGHT : EK 018
A/C : BOEING 777
ROUTE: MAN-DXB
CLASS : J CLASS

My mate and I decided to go to Dubai for 4 days and since he lives near Manchester I decided I should fly from DUB and meet him there. We checked in 3 hours before the flight and went to the Globeground lounge. It was ok but snacks were basic but a good selection of drinks and a nice view out to the runway.

A nice PIA 777

After an hour or so in the lounge it was time to board. The boarding area was very dull and crowded. We boarded and were greeted by a very friendly crew and offered drinks. My first impression was that is was a nice bright and spacious J class cabin with very nice seats.

After take off pre lunch drinks then the meal service. I had normal meal and my friend had veg. meal.

Normal and Veg . starters

Meat main course

Dessert

The entertainment system on EK was brilliant so I watched a few movies and then had a sleep with the aid of the ''stars'' on the cabin ceiling!!!!

Prior to landing some sandwiches with tea/coffee. All in all a very nice experience. On arrival my bag didnt turn up at first and I had to wait an hour. When it finally arrived it was damaged. The guy from EK told me to buy another one whilst I was in Dubai and to keep the receipt and I would be refunded on my return by the baggage services desk.
As we came out of the baggage hall we contacted the business arrivals desk and we got a free chauffer driven car to our hotel.

The lovely new hotel in Jumeirah beach area.

Shopping was great and got some good electronical goods. Also a very good friend of mine who is in the army in Iraq got leave and met me there. We went to the Wild Wadi water park which was great fun for all ages. One thing I thought weird was that local women went down the waterslides all covered up in the black Hijab. I wondered was it really worth it and getting soaked and it could be dangerous!!!!

Anyway after a great 4 days it was time to go home. The chauffer picked us up and we went to the airport. We arrived at the kerb of the business class section of the terminal and a porter took our bags from the car and walked with us to the check in. We were really impressed. We checked in within minutes and were past security in no time. A walk around the duty free which was brilliant. We then headed to the EK lounge which was really nice and lots of food and drinks including hot buffett and free internet access. One of the nicest lounges Ive been in.

Time to board ::

FLIGHT : EK 019
A/C : AIRBUS A330
ROUTE: DXB-MAN
CLASS : J CLASS

The business class was nice but I prefer the 777 as the seats were much nicer. I mostly slept on this flight so no more photos !!!

All in all EK was very good and I would definately fly them again. The service was good and I liked the mix of different nationalities among the crew. Arabian,Iranian,Irish,Portugese and of course Emiraties.

Hi thanks , full on the way out and 70% full on the way back. There was still alot of space and the service was great even when it was full. Service was efficient and fast which is what I like. I hate these 4 hour meal services. Emirates got it just right.

I will have to dis agree with you there!!! I think its amazing !!! It just takes some getting used to.

Im not really an A or B fan. If I see a plane I like then it doesnt matter who makes it. I love the Embraer 170 / B777 /
A380 / B787 but I dont like the A330 / B767 / A350XWB. Its a real mix with me LOL.....

Nice report! How would you compare the seats betwee the 772 and 332? The ones on the Airbus fleet look rubbish and I see that you agree that the Boeings have a better fit but could u go into a little more detail?

I would be really really shocked if Emirates hires Emiratis as cabin crew...

I dont like the A330 as a long haul aircraft . I love the B777 because it is spacious and bigger. The seats are rubbish on the A330 and not comfortable. The seats on the B777 were much wider and very comfortable. You can clearly see the difference in my photos and if I were to fly that route again I would make sure it was a 777 both ways.

Well he was the chief guy so maybe they do not employ them a standard cabin crew but he did say he was Emiratie so I have to take him at his word.

Hello, OA260,
nice report and pix.
DXB was on my list for, I think three times now, during the last two years, but it never really
happened that I will do the trip. We will see what´s going on this year.
Also EK and the DXB lounge sounds ok on your trip.
Best regards,

Nice report, thanks.

Food looks pretty good.

Re the A330 seats, I guess they are not as nice as they are older than the 777's?

Nice report OA260!

I liked the pictures especially of the meals and cabins. I like EK but have only ever been in Y which is great anyway. I remember having an Irish F/A onboard one of my flights, I thought it was strange but I now know there are lots of different nationalities working for EK.

Isn't it supposed to be like 'the ______est waterpark in the world?" Heard it was suppose to be really spectacular.

Hey, this is a very nice trip report!  bigthumbsup

Of course, I do have a question. Which version of 777 were you flying? Was it one of those new 777-300ER?

777-300ER

I know this is going to sound terrible but I didnt actually pay much attention but I looked at the ''normal schedule'' and it states 777-300ER so I guess it was most likely the one I flew on . Shame on me LOL....
