MAN -GLA On Flybe Dash 8 Incl Train

Wed Apr 04, 2007 7:35 am

At last my first trip report !

Last friday i realised that there wasn't much going on for me in the Easter holidays , i needed to go somewhere  bouncy

After trawling through the internet or more specifically flybe.com i came across an amazing cheap fare of £30 one way flight MAN - GLA , booking only 3 days before !! ( Well £36 with that Pre-Allocated Seat)  Angry

The next question was how would i get to Manchester . All flights were out my price range so it was train !

Monday the 2nd of April

After getting out my bed at 8am i left the house at 8.15 and walked the 600yrd to the main road to catch the 66 FirstGlasgow bus into Town . After going through all the Southside of Glasgow i got off the bus at Hope St. I made a dash to Sainsburys to buy 2 Croissants and a Red bull. I

At Central Station i boarded the 09.39 Virgin Pendolino to London Euston . My reservation was Coach E and Seat 9A BUT : 1 My seat didn't have a Window view and 2 There was a loud and a big family around me  Angry
Luckily i found a forward facing seat somewhere else! After passing through the Southern Uplands the train stopped at Carlisle then the train tilted through the beautiful lake district. At 11.52 i arrived at Preston and then boarded the 1208 Transpenine Class 185 to Manchester Airport . Only things of note were the Bolton wanderer's stadium ( i long way from Bolton i say) and the spectacular Beetham tower in MAN.

At last at 1315 i arrived at MAN . I had time to kill and i took a little dander to T2 as i hadn't been there , flights to Prague ,Dubai , Cape Town and Lahore were Checking in . I Decided to check in but were do i?
i knew the flight was T3 , I followed the signs to T3 where i found bmi checking desks but where was flybe ? Then i saw BA uh oh  Sad

i x rayed the check in area and managed to pick out the flybe colours phew  relieved
I checked in swiftly although they did think i was going for the earlier flight !!!
After check in i preceded to the food court and took a seat next to window next to some planespotters Big grin Big grin
Any of you on airliners .net there was about 5 of you next to the brasserie?

After Security i proceeded to T3 airside and another Whs smith to go to  wink  Time passed by and eventually the screen showed 1640 GLA gate 146 .

Flybe Dash 8 q400
MAN -GLA
G -JDEP

We boarded at 1620 and i took seat 3A . Load was about 60 % but only one person was seated near me !
There was a slight delay of 15 mins due to the flightplans not being given to the the pilots!
This my second ever prop flight ,Last November i took a Loganair Dash 6 GLA -GLA!!.
We taxied past th Concorde and the trident at the aviation viewing park , anyone see my departure that afternoon ?
At about 1700 we begun our very short take off roll .As we took off on the north easterly runway we headed over east Manchester over Bury, Burnley and Blackburn to the left . Conditions were clear i could the M6 snaking its way through the the lake district and a train on the west coast mainline which i had been on only hours earlier ! We cruised at 22,000 ft , i was both thirsty and hungry so i purchased a 330 ml Pepsi and pringles for £2.50 . The views of lake windermere were beautiful too  Cool

At Carlisle we began to descend passing dumfries to the left and then shortly after Glespin it was pretty rural !! I saw east kilbride to the right then over the M77 , a sharp right turn we were on finals for GLA !
We landed at about 1800 and i made a quick exit ( no luggage or hand luggage) to the citylink which made a bit of a diversion through Paisley !!

Hope you have enjoyed my trip report . Sorry about having no pictures my camera isent working at the moment!!

Hey good to see you finally got a trip report. Spelling and punctuation are a bit rough but what the hell?? Keep trying and they should get better; and next time take a camera.

It does depend when you fly on the Flybe routes. The weekday flights tend to be busy (lots of business customers) but when I went SOU-LBA on a Saturday morning there were 29 people...

The Q400's a lovely aircraft to fly on. Nice cabin, very smooth, and you tend to get some great views on climbout and descent.

Nice to read a Flybe report (though this one was a bit short) anyway thanks for sharing.

the train stopped at Carlisle

Now that you mention Carlisle - haven't they been planning to build an "international" airport at Carlisle? I haven't heard anything about this for quite a while now, so when I read your report I was wondering what ever happened to this plan?

Thanks again for sharing and regards, Alex.

Start a thread about it in civ av and I'll update you about this  Wink

Anyway, was it about 1050am when you stopped in Carlisle? If so, I could have come and thrown tomatos at yer train  Silly
