Right lets begin...woke up at 05.15 (no joke) had to be out the house to get bus at 20 to 6 and then get the coach from the hotel (where training is) in nottinghams for 6am. Arrived there ok and we were off.. god it was a awful 45 min journey could not for th life of me wake my self up or go to sleep so was stuck in a foul mood watching the cars go past... lol got to the swimming baths to which we had to pay for the privalage of training there £2.60.., As they are only alouyd to train 12 at a time in the pool we were split into two groups of 8 to which the group i wasnt in went in first. After 15-20 mins there where finnished woo my turn....so in my t-shirt and shorts i jumped in the pool-we had to swim 2 laps. next we had to get out and 'mark' (our very arogant teacher, also a number 1 for FR
) threw in our life jackets to which we had to swim to,put them on, strap them on properly then blow them up..whilst treading water.. this wasnt hard as it looked lol. next we had to 4 at a time pull one person along while we swam on our back, this was done and then that was our swimming..
Next to EMA
... another 45 min coach journey we arrived at FR
training sector abot 2/3 mins away from the main terminal building at EMA
. We were shuffled into a small briefing room to which we were told to 'look over our fire drill notes' while we waited for our time in the smoke/fire chamber... the time seemed to drag forever to the extent i could have fallen asleep in...then mark told us it was time and we went down some steps and into a small room full of robes to which we had to put them on and proceed outside to a medium size what we called 'porta-smoke thing..'. We were told we would go in, in pairs so we buddied up and firstly mark filled the smoke chamber with well smoke and we all took walked through in pairs which was quite scary as we couldnt see a thing!
Next it was time to start the fire fighting!!! We were told that in our pairs one of us would do a 'toilet drill' and the other a 'oven drill' so people went in and out till it came to my self and my partner amys turn.
We walked into the chamber and we were suprised to see it was a metal vertion of a cabin mock up (as we couldnt see in the dark and smoke..) and i picking th toilet began nocking on the door to check no one was in there next i had to get my equipment- a PBE smoke hood,Fire gloves and my extinguisher.. so i firstly i had to check how bad the fire was so i felt the door of the toilet with the back on my hand, the door was cold so the fire was not extreme.. telling my communicator (amy..) the details of the fire i croutched down by the door and opened it a smidge just enough to fit the nozzle of my extinguisher through and so i could get a idea where the fire was.. sure enough it seemed to be coming from the 'gash bin' (rubbish bin) i sprayed and shut the door for 30 seconds, after which the fire had gone out and i (pretended) to check for any debris and put them in a metal container.
After we had finnished it was 2 hours before we were schedualed to be picked up by the coach we had time to kill so mark kindly took us to the mock up 737 FR
use for training which is (half) and old 737-200, inside it was very strange! most of the f/d had been took apart and replaced with strange, poor quality pictures although some tacky buttons had been added so the attend and ELS
buttons work..well any way we didnt spend long in the mock up as that is tomoro's plan 4 hours in the mock up haha!
Well i thought i'd give some of you an insight to how my training with FR
hopfully i will get some pictures of us doing demos, drills and sliding and post them tomoro!
