BOS-SJC And Back On DL And AA Part 1

Wed May 02, 2007 12:45 pm

This trip kinda came last minute. My grandmother passed away last Tuesday, so my family and I had to fly out for her funeral service. I booked DL using skymiles(skysaver). Our routing was BOS-SLC-SJC-LAX-BOS. I ended up missing 3 days of school for this trip.

Now, on to the trip report...

We arrived at logan about 2hrs prior to departure time, and checked in using a kiosk. An agent checked our bags, and minutes later, I was through security at Delta's airy terminal. I've never flown out of A before, so it was quite interesting to explore around it. I got my caffeine jolt from starbucks, then went spotting.

I requested a bulkhead from the agent before boarding and despite saying it was a bulkhead, it wasn't.  Sad However, the fact that this was one of the reconfigured 757s with the PTVs made up for the lack of legroom. We pushed back early, and taxxied to runway 4R.
I caught a shot of an AA Mad Dog and Boston before takeoff.

We rotated in about 5500ft(the 757 is beast), and after a few turns, we flew northwest, eventually just north of my hometown of concord.
KBED is the green area just above the engine, concord is to the right of it.

About an 1hr after takeoff, the F/A's came through with our snack, which was nice considering most carriers these days offer nothing. The new IFE system is pretty cool, is a good draw for customers and has a good choice of movies and games. My only complaint was the lack of music variety and of the slow processor for the games. I watched "Eragon" about halfway through the flight, and about 90 minutes to landing, the F/A's came by with a snack choice. I had the biscoff cookies(addicted to these).

About to land...

We entered the SLC area and circled around to land on runway 34L. We taxxied into gate D13. Since my SJC flight wa s departing at the next gate(D11), and I had 45 minutes until boarding, I did a brief spotting trip.
A line of DL aircraft..

Is that a 764 next to the 738?

I returned to D11 20 minutes later, and finally it was time to board around 10:35. Since there were several flights departing/boarding at once(flights to SEA, PDX, LAS, SJC) in the same area, it was kinda hectic.

We left the gate a bit late, and departed SLC via 34L. I fell asleep at this time, waking up for the beverage service, where a snack item was offered(I had sunchips). We flew over Utah, and Nevada, finally turning north for approach to SJC.

We landed on 30R and taxxied into C9(the lone C gate with a jetway). I was disappointed we wouldn't be using stairs, but thanks to DL getting us in early, I had time to spot at the observation deck at SJC.

The DL 738 that took me from SLC.

After spotting, we took the shuttle bus to the rental car facility, and drove over to Santa Cruz. I'll be writing part 2 once my photos are uploaded. The DL crew on both flights were ok, nothing special. The main highlight was the IFE system DL has. That will draw me back to DL in the future. My only complaints were lack of legroom on the 757(DL should remove the first row of econ.)Thanks for reading!

First off,

I'm very sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. My condolences to you and your family during this time.

I'm sure it was more difficult to write a TR for this trip, but my hats off to you for doing so. Glad you were satisfied with the service on Delta as well.
