A Very Long Day… CVG-OUA (some Pics) (by TwoLz2Rn Jul 29 2007 in Trip Reports)
Getting Out Of Africa OUA-CDG (pics) (by TwoLz2Rn Jul 30 2007 in Trip Reports)
When I was planning my summer, I knew that I wanted to take a little vacation after studying in Ouagadougou. I originally had planned on several different places but I narrowed down my choices to either Istanbul or Cairo. When I was looking up airfares to both, Cairo was about twice the price so I decided on Istanbul. I also decided to fly out of LHR
because I hadn’t been to London for a long time and I figured why not.
I took the Eurostar right after arriving from OUA
. Luckily my flight was a little early and I had enough time (I gave myself about 3 hours which was perfect) to get from CDG
to Gare du Nord. I spent two full days in London which was just enough time to recuperate from the African heat and do my laundry. On the third day I started my trip to Istanbul, Turkey.
This was my first time to LHR
so I was pretty excited. I woke up early to make sure I had everything packed up from my hostel and left to catch the Heathrow Express from Paddington (which was very nice). Once I arrived at the first stop for T1, 2 and 3, I found out that I was at the wrong end of the train so I had to walk farther to get to T1. Once I made it to the departure level, I found a BA
check-in line to get my boarding passes and then drop off my luggage.
Passed security no problem then I just wondered around the terminal for a while. When the time arrived I headed to my gate.
I wasn’t originally going to take many photos because there was someone in the window seat (as I had requested the aisle) but even before the aircraft doors were shut he moved somewhere else…so I got two seats and decided to take some pictures for a report!
July 17, 2007
Aircraft: B767 (G-BZHA)
Depart: 10:30am 11:20am
Arrive: 4:15pm 4:30pm
Boarding started on time but we didn’t back away from the gate till around 11:20.
We had a quick taxi to the runway but were third or fourth for take off.
When it was finally our turn to take-off we didn’t wait. As we were turning on to the strip the pilot began to throttle up and we were then on our way to Istanbul!
flight behind us (it is hard to take good pictures during take off!)
will be really nice when it’s done!
Drinks were served about 20 minutes after take-off
One movie was shown (Blades of Glory)
Dinner was served about half way though the flight...baked pasta with chicken, a gross salad, bread and this amazing chocolate cake/brownie.
I noticed that a lot of people were taking their trays to the back of the plane when they were finished but I didn’t know why and the F/A’s were not thrilled about that either! I didn’t think they waited too long to come back around to collect the trays!
I think this is when the F/A’s were serving tea and coffee… I do remember noticing was the difference in Euro Traveller seats. The front section was leather and the back half (where I sat) was cloth. Why??
I hate not knowing where we were!
Decent into IST
Vladivostok Air (RA-85685)
Ariana Afghan Airlines (don’t know reg. #)
After we parked, I heading to get my visa and luggage then I was on vacation!
Istanbul is an amazing city!
A week after I arrived I had to leave again
There wasn’t anything interesting on my return flight to Paris (IST
). The highlight for me was my hotel room in Paris…the Hilton CDG
! It was a surprise from my parents so I didn’t have to sleep in the airport!
I flew home the next day on DL
