Day Trip To LHR - 28 Jul 07 - 30 Pics.

Sun Aug 05, 2007 3:36 am

Hi folks,

Well, I popped down to good old LHR last saturday, for the first time in almost 6 months, which is a long time considering I used to go down there usually 2 or 3 times a month! The weather forecast predicted sunshine, but it turned out a lot more cloudy unfortunately. However, I took some pics whilst there, mainly from 27R where aircraft were arriving until 1500. I did go over to 27L when they switched over but that was short lived as an hour or so later they went back to 27R arrivals. There was an incident outside the airport which required the London Air Ambulance and it occured on the inbound flight path to 27L, hence the switch back to 27R.

Now please go easy on me, as my camera isn't the best in the world, hence the quality not being top notch.

Arrivals on 27R:

BD055 (Midland 2 Alpha Echo) from Edinburgh (A319 G-DBCE).

UA924 from Washington (B777-200 N778UA).

BA048 from Seattle (B744 G-BNLN).

BA182 from New York (B744 G-CIVX).

AA136 from Los Angeles (B772 N770AN).

KL1013 from Amsterdam (B733 PH-BDE).

SK805 from Oslo (B736 LN-RPX).

AA116 from New York (B772 N775AN).

AA098 from Chicago (B772 N783AN).

VS008 from Los Angeles (A346 G-VYOU).

EK001 from Dubai (B773 A6-EMO).

BA 744 G-BNLU being towed from Maintenance to Terminal 1 ready for BA287 to SFO, and CX 744 B-HUI being cleaned and prepared for later flight CX250 to Hong Kong.

After being out of service for 4 weeks, G-CPEM returns to Heathrow, Callsign: Speedbird 9261 Echo, arriving from Lasham, minus the Blue Peter livery she has been wearing for the last few years.

AI101 from Mumbai (B744 VT-AIF).

BA118 from Bangalore (B772 G-YMMJ). Note the 'England Football Team' title.

AC896 from Vancouver (A333 C-GFAH).

BA156 from Kuwait (B772 G-VIIU).

LG4403 from Luxembourg (E145 LX-LGI).

SK803 from Copenhagen (A319 OY-KBP).

BD7006 from Cagliari (A320 G-MIDX).

BA084 from Vancouver (B744 G-BNLL).

BA553 from Rome (B763 G-BNWB).

AC852 from Calgary (B763 C-FMWV).

KU101 from Kuwait (B772 9K-AOB).

BA501 from Lisbon (B752 G-CPEO).

Arrivals on 27L:

TK1991 from Isbanbul (A321 TC-JRC).

Canadair Challenger 601 G-IMAC arriving from Naples.

DUB001 from Dubai (B744 A6-HRM).

JJ8084 from Sao Paulo (A332 PT-MVG).

CX257 from Hong Kong (A343 B-HXL).

Shortly after this, they switched back to 27R for arrivals, and I couldn't be bothered to make my way back there, so I went to the Green Man pub for a quick beer before making my way home!!

Thanks for viewing,

Hi Chris,

Nice report, thanks for posting! Out of curiosity, where exactly were these shots taken from? Is it possible to get to those locations on foot/public transport? I haven't gone spotting at LHR since they shut the Queens Building! If it is easy to get to those spots I might pop over from Dublin for a few hours some day.

Thanks
Andrew

BD7006 from Cagliari (A320 G-MIDX).

That aircraft was sitting nearby mines at Edinburgh on the 12th July, xD... It was operating BD51 to LHR :]

Very cool pics, thanks for sharing!

Question: Could you give me a brief explanation where you were shooting the 27R arrivals from? A fellow a.net member and myself will be staying at the Ibis Heathrow in mid-September. The Ibis is situated on the north side of 27R, close to where the Renaissance and all the other airport hotels are located at, could you give me a brief explanation on how to get to that stop from there? It would be highly appreciated  Smile

Thanks in advance!

I agree with all the other replies, your pics were wonderful. Where exactly did you take them from?

27L:

Arrow number 1 points to Hatton Cross Underground (Tube) Station (and Bus Station), which is on the Piccadilly Line, which runs to and from Central London, with an average journey time of 40 minutes.

Arrow number 2 points to the patch of grass simply known as Myrtle Avenue. This is where all arrivals on 27L can be photographed from. It is a 3 minute walk from the Station.

27R:

The arrow points to where I took my pictures from of the 27R arrivals. All photographers congregate on the patches of grass by the roundabout. Bus stops are very close by. The hotels 'Renaissance' and 'Ibis' are situated out of picture, top left. If you are coming from Hatton Cross, you can catch the 90, or 285 bus to the roundabout. (It stops just after the roundabout, crossing beneath the inbound flightpath briefly).

I hope this info is of help to you guys.

Chris

Edit: Myself and a mate are going to LHR this saturday (11 August) for more of the same thing if anybody is up for it??? If the 27's are in use then it will be 27R arrivals until 1500, and 27L arrivals thereafter [GOOD TIMES]. If the 09's are in use then it will be the standard 09L arrivals, 09R departures. [BAD TIMES].

The 9s aren't that hard to reach. Just catch the 285 at hatton cross and drop one station before heathrow central, change there to the 81 and drop one station past the town of Longford, it's a station out of nowhere and from there it's a short walk to the 9L spot and a bit longer to the 9R  Smile

These are great pics. I need to get my @rse into gear and get down to LHR for some spotting.

I caught the speedlink coach between LGW and LHR and when we were going to T1 from T4 the roundabout where the photographers gather. The maps that you have highlighted above really help and have given me that little bit more confidence to find my way around LHR on public transport

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks very much for providing the information on the locations. I will probably swing over in the next couple of weeks and do some spotting. Out of interest, are there any issues with security or police in that area? I presume Myrtle Avenue is just a public park area and the locals are used to spotters?

Thanks again and enjoy your spotting trip on Saturday.
