SJC-MSP-MKE NWA F/Y Househunting Trip

Mon Sep 17, 2007 7:36 am

As from my last report that my next trip to MKE would answer the question if I was going to relocate. Well. I am. After pondering and contemplating the decision, having long talks with my family and friends, I decided the opporotunity to try something with my life would be worth it - afterall, if it doesn't work out, I can always go back home. So here's the scoop:

When I had the travel agent book this for me, I guess the only fare left was a Y as when I got the confirmation, it had me in F SJC-MSP and I could choose any seat I wanted in Y cabin on MSP-MKE. Why the updgrade wasn't the whole trip, I don't know. But not that important as MSP-MKE is such a short flight.

Got to the airport about 1045 and took about 15 mins to clear security - the West Concourse has DL and NW using 3 gates (C9, C10 and C11) with DL getting ready to board an ATL and an LAX flight, so this small conourse was very packed. Boarding started at 1140 in which I took my seat and was offered a pre-departure drink (bacardi and coke). The seat was wide and there was a foot rest, but the plane was dirty, crumbs all over the seat. Boarding contiumed till about 1205 when the door was closed and we pushed back. Take off was routine with a departure loop to the north. We flew over sacramento, I could follow I80 over sparks and several of the ranges until some clouds started blocking my view. We were given a packet of pretzels and nuts. No towel service. Lunch choices were a rather dry turkey sandwich or pasta salad. I took the sandwich, which came with kettle chips, some fruit (fruit was good) and a packaged brownie. They were a bit fast on drink service. After lunch I settled in with my project management book and a cup of coffee and then took a nap. Woke up as we started our decent in to MSP, flew past the airport, and a long left turn into 30R. We got in about 25 mins early. I went over to D terminal and went to the obs deck for a while. Went down to my next gate to find it was delayed - so went and grabbed a bite to eat in the food court and waited and waited.

I learned from a previous flight to avoid 19A as there is no window, so I took this one. The inbound was delayed quite a bit due to a mx diversion from Fairbanks, AK i beleive and once it landed and they took off the 20 something wheelchairs, the decided they needed to replace some of the medical equipment which delayed the flight even more. Finally we boarded and took off. Originally planned to go a bit north due to weather it took a bit longer. There was no service due to turblance, but a f/a did walk around offering water to pax which was nice. We landed and off to get my bag and car then off to the hotel.

I finally settled on a downtown apartment - was just a smidge more than I wanted to pay, but its only 2 blocks from my office, so the savings on gas, and extra parking i think will even things out. Milwaukee is a pretty neat city and I think I'll like it here - it is hard to say good by to san jose and SJC. I will really miss my friends and family, but I look at a great opportunity to really further my career and make some new friends and new adventures. So...if any MKE'ers happen to read this send a message my way. Next trip report is my return home, tomorrow and then the packing for the big road trip begins.
The red zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only, there is no stopping in the white zone...(Ai
