Jet Airways India BOM HYD

Sun Sep 23, 2007 1:54 pm

This TR is for 9W 457, Jet Airways India flt from Mumbai to Hyderabad (domestic flight w/in India).

Having arrived in Mumbai at 1250 AM, it was time to continue the trip. Because I'm technically pathetic, I won't try and post a link to my ORD -- BOM TR, but it is hear. Anyway, on to this trip.

I think the reg was VT JNC, but I could have that wrong. I had stayed the night at the Grand Intercontinental Mumbai Airport. Nice room for 5 hrs. Forget about saving money because you aren't in the US/Europe on the rooms.

I took the airport car to the Domestic terminal of the airport. Now, a word to folk from the US/Europe. This is the same airport, same runways, BUT NOT CLOSE to the international terminal. From what I understand a shuttle connects them, but never took it, so I don't honestly know. If anyone does, pls post as it would be of interest -- at least to me.

Both BOM and HYD take ETickets, so -- with itinerary in hand -- I arrived at the airport at about 630 AM for the aprox 8 AM flight. I showed the receipt to the police and so gained admission to the terminal itself. A wonderfull person from Jet Airways was greeting pax arriving at the airport and helping/directing them to a self service check in. BTW, 9W is offering 500 bonus Jet Privilege miles to use one (according to their in flight Magazine). She helped me check in, directed me to bag drop and the whole was accomplished in 4 mins. FABULOUS.

I dropped the bags --- tagged to HYD -- and went to security. This took a stunning 2 min. This includes bag XRAY, walking through metal detector, and hand frisking with wand, w/security stamp to boarding pass and carry on luggage tag -- one line for men one for women. MUCH more polite than any security in the US -- and FAST. However, no special line for FC, so be EARLY to security and nor worries.

Mumbai had Tstorms and the incoming flight was late due to this and "operational reasons." But there ya go. Interestingly, 9W seemed to have the most delayed flights, but then they also had the most flights period. I went to the upstairs seating area (not an enclosed lounge) as I have NW Worldclub membership, but no recip for the lounge (only points on NW Worldperks for some flights).

At about 1030 or so we boarded. The announcement was "Jet Airways flight 9W 457 to Hyderabad....." the Domestic terminal has only 2 gates, with bus service to all the various aircraft. We came to our 737-800, boarding was taking place from both front and read doors. As I was sitting in 25F or something, I boarded from the rear. I had an aisle, so I was happy. Legroom same as a CO 737-500 (ie minimal).

Before taxi, FA's came around w/ 200ml bottle of a lemon drink (think Gatorade, but not that brand). This was in COACH mind. I thought that was the inflight service. WRONG.

Once airborne, meal service began. This was a TREAT. A REAL b'fast. The option was veg/non veg. A real chicken entree (w/ rice and a vegetable) in a ceramic container. Fruit (pineapple and passion w/catelope) and a roll topped of hte b'fast tray. Plus coffee/tea service 2x. Their was also some kind of a cake/sweet/pastry thing (tasty, forget the flavor). But hold on.......there is more..........the napkin was linen...yes....in coach.....linen......with real metal fork knife spoon......and these "after meal" mint seeds that are YUM + creamer for coffee and plastic spoon/stir thing for coffee.

The inflight magazine and various national newspapers were in every seat. In coach. one a one hour flight. Is any US carrier taking notice????????????

The FA's were very friendly and prompt. I saw at least 5 FA's in the coach cabin. One was heating food and 2 FA's per moving serving cart (2 in the main cabin).

After coffee was served, a THIRD pass through the cabin was made with bottled water (200 ml Himalaya brand).

It was like the old style flights in the US. While not happy about the delay, the service was impeccable on this 100%full flight. I'd fly this airline anytime.

Questions? I'll try to answer. Recommendations -- fly this airline.

Yes - there's a free shuttle service that connects both terminals. But you should be glad you did not try the service because it sucks. It sucks because there's no clarity on when the bus will leave, you feel that you're at the mercy of the bus driver to show up - he might in 5 minutes, or in 45 minutes.

Hehe - evidently not. This is the standard service on an Indian full service carrier for a while now.
Incredible India!

I know JetAirways has moved into JFK, YYZ. I can only hope they do a Virgin and move into the US domestic market. I think even if they billed themselves as a biz carrier people would go to them. Sort of an ANTI Southwest effect.
