It's been a while since I've done this so hopefully I can do justice to you guys Flight times were a little late, therefore aviation pictures aren't in plentiful; however I will share some pictures from the overall trip anyways!
This trip was a trip to go meet up with my sister who now works for a consulting company based out of Chicago. Her project is in Madison, so during the weekends, she comes home to Chicago. I was looking at airfares for the heck of it back in August and I ended up finding $53 one-way fares to Chicago. Only thing would be that I would be going on American Airlines to ORD and returning from MDW on WN. Well, it kinda worked out ok because I would get to see another airport and add it to my list
So without further delay, here is the trip report!!!

CMH - ORD
AA 4322 (Operated by American Eagle)
Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-700 (twin-jet) (CRJ7/Q)
STD: 6:05 pm ATD: 6:56 pm
STA: 6:30 pm ATA: 6:46 pm
Load: I'd say 100% cause I couldn't spot an open seat
The day began pretty casually. I just had two classes to attend today so in the morning I drove from my home in Blacklick to Ohio State Campus. By 3 pm, I was back home and finishing up my packing for this weekend trip to Chicago. I'm glad I made the check as I had forgotten to pack my OSU jersey for the game on Saturday My mom said she would drop me off at the airport and said she would leave work early and getting home by 4:30 pm. I never checked the status of my flight so I was panicking. She showed up at 4:50 pm and then we headed out for the airport. Blacklick to CMH is about 10 minutes of a drive as we can cut through Hamilton Rd. and then onto Sawyer Rd., thus never having to hop onto the interstate system during the wonderful rush hour traffic time. I got to the airport by 5:10 and said my byes to mom and immediately went for check-in my bags. I had already checked in online but still needed to drop my bags off. I headed to security and there was a small line in front of me. Took me 10 minutes to get to the check-point and then security was a breeze as all I had with me was my camera and my Ipod. I like to carry pretty much nothing with me as carry-on when I'm traveling. I reach the gate and I get to know that my flight is delayed by 20 minutes. Boarding time was 5:35 pm and they said that the incoming aircraft was running late, therefore the flight will probably land at around 5:50 pm, therefore making the new boarding time of 6:05 pm.
Having more than 30 minutes to kill, I decided to go to the Wolfgang Puck express. I had had lunch at Moe's Southwestern Grill on campus with some buddies, so I wasn't hungry. But he, a couple drinks before a short flight never hurt anyone I sat down at the bar and ordered a Bombay Saphire / Tonic (one of my fav. drinks). I ended up going through three gin/tonics before I saw my flight was boarding!!! I realized after boarding that I was one of the last people to board. I found a gentleman from San Diego sitting next to me. We pushed back and then we were on hold for about 17 minutes to take off. I had a little chat with this gentlemen with the usual question / answer about what you do etc. Time seemed to fly as we lined up for takeoff and off went this little jet. I think this was my second flight in a CRJ and the power was felt during take-off. Or I think the fact that I was down 3 gin/tonics made it feel like it was powerful
Since this was a short flight, all that was offered was a drink service. Still not bad I guess for a 40 minute flight. I decided to be adventurous and ended up ordering a Heineken. I guess it was worth the $5 The flight was pretty uneventful and I tried to take pictures of the setting sun. Here are some pictures that I tried...
(My attempt to capture Chicago Skyline. The lighting was just horrible)
By the time I finished my beer, we were already descending into the chicago area. After finishing the beer up, we were right next to downtown chicago. I tried to capture the views but the lighting was just not good. Soon after, we were at ORD. I wanted to go spotting but I also wanted to get home quickly. So I decided not to go for spotting, but I did see some AA 777 on my way out of the terminal. I believe one of them was heading towards DEL Although while taxiing to our gate, I did see a LX A330, an Air Lingus A330. I guess that's all the heavies I could see. But I collected my luggage and then headed for the CTA. Overall, it was just a regular CMH-ORD flight. Nothing to extraordinary but the F/As were friendly and the drink service was appropriate I guess. I collected my luggage, and then took the blue line and in about an hour I was home with my sister. The rest of the night, we just watched a movie and had a couple drinks.
Saturday we had initially decided to go to the Field Musuem; however we woke up late and decided to go shopping on Michigan Ave. instead. I ended up buying 3 total shirts for way too much $$$. But it was a decent day and later on we decided to go to an OSU alumni bar to watch Ohio State play Purdue. We ended up at a bar in the Lincoln Park area and this bar was full of either Cubs fans or Scarlet and Grey. It was great to hear the OSU fight song and people doing O-H-I-O on the Hang On Sloopy song It was a great atmosphere to watch the game and it was even better when we won the game and only allowed the high-powered Purdue offense to score 7 points GO BUCKS!!!
Anyways, we came back home and just relaxed. Sunday I woke up early and decided to go to the Field Museum. So I will include some pictures from the museum. I guess I was a little hung over so didn't have the best of the days But it was still worth it as I really like museums and such... anyways, here are the some pictures from the museum and others I took...

So my day ended with me catching the L again to Chicago's Midway Airport to catch my flight back to Columbus. I said my goodbyes to my sister and proceeded to the L station around 7:30 pm. By 8:30 pm, I was at MDW.

MDW - CMH
Southwest Airlines 2220
STD: 09:30 pm ATD: 10:00 pm
STA: 11:25 pm ATA: 11:47 pm
Load: 100% (Not a single seat empty)
I had again checked in online and was assigned Group B for boarding. This would be my first time on Southwest Airlines and I guess I was looking forward to it. I've heard great things about Southwest Airlines; therefore wanted to experience it myself. I got to the check-in counter of WN and then dropped off my bag. I hadn't had much to eat all day due to the night before so I was starving and for reason craving Pizza. After clearing security and I had a slice of Pepperoni pizza which was delicious (or I was just too hungry ) I spent a good 10-15 minutes eating and then proceeded to a bookstore to purchase my favorite magazine (Travel and Leisure) as reading material for this short 55 minute flight. The flight was coming from Phoenix I believe and was running late. The flight came in late and then the crew did a good job of "cleaning" the A/C and get it ready for boarding. There were already huge cues to board now and I was in the front portion of Group B boarding. So by the time I boarded, I had seat 14A available. So I sat there. Surprisingly, the leg room of this seat was great although it was right on the wing. If it were a day flight I probably would have selected a seat with a clearer view. But since this was a night flight, I could care less. The seat however was very dirty. It had peanut crumbs on the seat and the wrappers were in the front pocket. Definitely not clean...
After getting comfortable and then meeting my seatmates (who were students from OSU as well) the safety demonstration etc. was done and we were off to CMH. Again since the flight was short, there was a drink service with honey roasted peanuts. The F/As went around and took orders for drinks and I decided to have some ginger-ale. I wasn't too hungry so I declined the peanuts. Time again pretty much flew on this flight as I got busy reading the magazine and listening to music on my Ipod. In no time, we were descending into Columbus. We descended right over Ohio Stadium as I could figure out Lincoln & Morrill Towers. I also spotted Rt. 315 and Crew Stadium as well. This was pretty cool as I could make out my driving routes etc. The landing was rough, I thought that something broke it was that loud. We taxied to gate A3 and got off the plane. My dad was to pick me up at this hour and I called him right after we landed and told me to leave home in 10 minutes. I went to collect my bags and I stepped out of the airport and within 2 minutes my dad was there. Talk about perfect timing
Overall, I guess I will have to try Southwest Airlines again sometime. Maybe it was a night flight, but I didn't hear any funny comments from the pilot or the F/As. I've read some funny ones here on A.net. But the service was still very good, with friendly and smiling F/As who looked like they were enjoying their jobs... I guess my first southwest experience was pretty decent and I definitely wouldn't mind flying them again...
