Delta Airlines: ONT-ATL-BUF Round Trip

Thu May 01, 2008 11:30 am

This is my trip to Canada but I will route it via Buffalo, NY. I am making my friend a slave to drive me from Toronto to here, thanks to Ken! I had to do this because I do not have my US Passport for this trip, and I would need to have my passport to travel in air, so... However, I have to be honest, I did not know about this before I had to take off to the airport (sister reminded me).

The mini airport that is near my house, Ontario (ONT).

ID and TSA Check Point.

Express JET.

Continental Airline.

Outside of Ontario Airport.

Carl's Jr. inside the concourse. Delta is located in Terminal 2 (there are two terminals in ONT, 2 & 4).

Today's aircraft, Delta 737-800.

Express JET ERJ-145 staying overnight.

Delta in the front, Ted in the back.

A picture prior to door closure. Today we board at Gate 122.

Operating Airline: Delta Air Line
Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
Flight Number: DL 0990
Departure: Ontario International Airport (ONT) at 2325
Arrival: Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) at 0630

My boarding pass to Atlanta, printed at home. I'll utilize the ones at the airport next time so I do not have to waste my own paper.

Yeah, I know there will be complimentary meals for DL on Economy flights within the US, so I prepared a mini-meal for myself at Carl's Jr. before take off. There's a thin blanket but there are no pillows.

A picture of the cabin in 737-800. That's the ground staff walking there.

USD2.00 for a cheap headset, would you buy? I don't like how airlines charge stuff like this. Good thing I hardly fly with Delta.

Around Phoenix, clear sky.

Before we leave the airplane.

The table.

Concourse A of Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL)

My flight got delayed... which I guess is usual for the World's Busiest Airport.

There are six concourses in ATL, I had originally thought Concourse T is the international concourse, but I was wrong.

You have to go down for about 2 floors in escalator to reach the trains for departures from different concourses.

Airport Concourse Transit.

Aircraft of US Airways.

Concourse D in ATL, this is the narrow concourse out of all in ATL. I wanted to take more pictures inside the airport, but I was stopped by a Delta ground staff after this one. She told me not to take pictures inside the concourse. I was confused because I could not find any information in regards to no photo taking in airport (except at security and immigration). Can anyone tell me?

Operating Airline: Pinnacle Airlines (subsidiaries of Delta Air Line)
Aircraft: Boeing CRJ 900
Flight Number: DL 2004
Departure: Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) at 0745 -> 0815
Arrival: New York Buffalo Airport (BUF) at 0920

On the second trip and is around Atlanta after 10,000 feet.

This aircraft is operated by Delta Connection, and it's a CRJ 900.

CRJ 900 Emergency Exit.

I also sit in an Emergency Exit, so there's more space in between.

Delta Air Line's Magazines... I think the Sky Mall one appears on all airlines.

Delta Air Line's aircraft lists. There's only a certain selection mentioned.

Outside the window.

Cheese Crackers again with Sprite. It's the same whether it's a 4 hour flight or a 90 minute flight.

My boarding pass for the second route.

Lavatory inside the CRJ 900.

Air Tran aircraft at Buffalo Airport.

Buffalo Airport. Delta Connections' flight (along with Continental) is usually boarded at one of the last ones.

United Airlines. It should also be a subsidiaries as it looks different.

jetBlue Aircraft at Buffalo.

Buffalo Airport check-in counter for Southwest and United. Something to note... you do not have to take your luggages to a specific TSA security check point to go through scans.

After meeting up with my friends, he took me back to Buffalo, so here are the pictures for the return trip. I wanted cheap tickets, so it's a very early flight. We had to drive at 3am from Toronto to make this 6am flight departing from Buffalo.

Northwest Airline.

Continental Connect.

Operating Airline: Delta Air Line
Aircraft: McDouglas MD-88
Flight Number: DL 889
Departure: New York Buffalo Airport (BUF) at 0600
Arrival: Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) at 0809

Lots of fog in the morning.

No one is next to me... so I took a picture of the pitch.

Inside the MD-88 Cabin.

Random picture.

Drinks and such. I am wondering if I should complain to Delta as I was mistreated by the cabin staff by skipping me for this service. It's not like this service is really a top notch but it's a complimentary service that should be given to me. However, when I complained to the First Class Cabin staff (while they are still servicing passengers just 4 rows behind me), I was told that they skipped me because I am sleeping and I receive no apologies (in fact I was not sleeping). She just told me, "what do you want then?" I was like, wow...

We landed in Concourse T, and this is the directory.

No one came to me when I take pictures today...

Delta's hub... so... we see Delta's aircraft everywhere.

American Airline's aircraft.

Operating Airline: Delta Air Line
Aircraft: Boeing Boeing 757-200 Transcontinental
Flight Number: DL 789
Depature: New York Buffalo Airport (BUF) at 0904
Arrival: Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) at 1040

Wow, personal TV for this domestic route, I was surprised...
This is 757-200 Transcontinental flight we are taking today to Ontario.

Another Delta Aircraft.

Again, no one is next to me. This is the pitch.

Inside the 757-200 cabin.

For this longer trip... since I did not sleep much last night, I decide to go to sleep... when I woke up we are already in the Arizona area.

Again, Express JET at Ontario.

View from the Terminal out.

We're you actually sitting there, with your tray table down, watching them pass you by? If they had skipped you, you could have said 'excuse me?' before letting them move on, right? But, if you were sitting there with your eyes closed and tray table up, they weren't going to disturb you.

Thanks for sharing, hope to see more!

You could plug in your own, and all the airlines are doing this now. If they are not you generally have to give them back those headsets are yours to keep, and they are not bad.

Pinnacle isn't a subsidary of Delta, it used to be a subsidary of Northwest until they bought back their shares, they are their own company now.

It's a priviledge not a right, and if you had you eyes closed at the time, then i would also think you are sleeping or do not want to be disturbed as closed eyes is a body language sign typically used not to be bothered.

Your pictures are good, but your commentary is a little flat. Maybe it is only because you did not/do not enjoy Delta.

I don't really think you can say your were 'mistreated', people make mistakes all the time, you should have just said excuse me and asked for what you wanted. Also I don't know why you had to go to the First Class Cabin Staff either?

That lady usually just serves the First Class Cabin and happens to be walking by right after those FAs left, that's why I spoke (this is when I "excused me"). I am never the person that wanted to make it a deal at the "moment of service" as I think it makes the FA who serves look bad. It has also happened on another flight I took with Southwest as well, and the passenger next to me spoke for me as she sees I do not have my complimentary drinks (and I definitely won't be sleeping on a 1pm flight).

Table is down, as the cookie was served prior to drinks by another FA just not long ago. I think there are enough people that flies with and knows how Delta FA works more than I do, these services were separate. I know lots of people will think I am sleeping, but it was not the case... otherwise how did I get the cookie (unless people trying to say I got it at the same time as the drinks)?

Well, it's never going to be a joyful flight with Delta if you have been spoiled with other airlines... right (such as SQ's economy)? I am not saying that each and every airline should service the same, but when you pay similar pricing yet you can fly a lot further w/other airlines, at better times, or even internationally, how would it be a great experience? I just had to stick with it because there are no international airlines who fly this route, and a similar route, flying from LAX to YYZ, will be served by AC (which is not a great one either).

I don't think I will complain to them, it's better to vote with my wallets next time.

No point in complaining. You will get a computer-generated response saying how sorry Delta is and hope that you choose Delta again in the future. It's a petty complaint anyway.

I don't think I am whining, I am just explaining the situation and asking for opinions on whether I should bother to complain to DL or not on this issue (whether people think it's important or petty). I have been reading most of the trip reports on this forum, and I did not bother to pay for access until recently. What I observed, I should say a third of the time, when there's a minor complain that people made about airlines, it's often taken offensive on the forum and people just think the trip reporter is whining. If there's a some what serious one, people often tell the trip reporter to complain to the airline instead of bringing it here, because the forum is not the airline. Maybe people should just post excellent trip reports on this forum as others think us, the people, are just "whining" when complained.

Thank you for reading and I am happy you guys liked the pictures. I will not respond in regards to the complaining part any further as I already stated in my previous post that I will vote with my wallet.

I think you should tell Delta about your exprerience from when they skipped over you during IF meals and when somebody stopped you from taking pics in ATL. DL can work with the people at ATL. No risk in trying. You always lose if you don't try to shoot.

Then don't fly Delta. One can assume you chose DL because you found a low fare. Next time, pay for the service you seem to expect.

I have flown with DL for years and found that their service to be very good and if you find it not to your liking please feel free to fly with another airline. Were you expecting a full breakfast for a flight of leas then 2 hours? Flying with AA you would not have anything to eat. Nice trip report though, I enjoyed readig it.

I wasn't insinuating that DL service levels are bad. I fly DL almost exclusively and find it to be acceptable. I was just pointing out that, when the OP likely paid an extremelly low fare for a coach seat, he should't expect to recieve first class service.

Just had a look at the latest issue with the combined DL/NW fleet. They still show a selection of types only - not surprising that the DC-9s are only mentioned in the text...

I've had many rude experiences on Delta in recent years. You're lucky they even considered serving you out of sequence. I've had them give me nothing or wake me up to ask if I wanted their skimpy offerings. On my most recent trip, the alcoholic beverages were $7.00. The new seats are not very comfortable more than about one hour.

To say that I'm displeased that Delta is taking over NWA is an understatement.

Well im sorry you have had bad experiences with Delta. But truthfully the inflight offerings are skimpy wether you fly AA CO(yes im aware of the burgers  Smile ) WN US UA etc etc. I think the BOB program delta has is probably the better of all the US carriers. People need to wake up and realize that the day of SQ style service domestically is gone. However I think attitudes of staff should be better. I think if you fly Delta again or NWA and the service is bad maybe you should make a formal complaint. But also remember if you do fly Delta again keep an open mind because if you go into a situation with negative expectations you will only have them met. Sometimes  Smile

On the 737/767s you can do this on the 757s you need to get on of the little two prong things to plug your own up to and then into the jack. (most of the time I can find them after I flight 99% of the time someone will forget the headphone ands all you have to do is pull the two prong piece off.)
