AA Business Class (New York-St.Maarten) Pics

Sun Jun 01, 2008 8:11 pm

Every March I take a trip to St. Maarten do one thing. Stand at the end of the runway and take pictures of the aircraft. This year again I choose American Airlines, rather than CO or B6.

I arrived at 9:00AM for my 11:15 departure to SXM. Check In was easy and there was literally no one in the Terminal. I headed up to the new Admirals Club where the flagship lounge was. I thought that if you were an Executive Platinum Member you could use the Flagship Lounge to but I guess not. The new Admirals Club was relatively smaller than the other one in the midfield concourse,

but I liked this one better because it gave you a view of the entire Terminal 8.

AA 757 Inbound from BDA Bound for SXM (My Flight)

At 10:30AM I headed down to Gate 37 to board. The aircraft had just come in from BDA, and there was no winglets on the 757. I guess AA doesn't send their winglet 757's to JFK often. I usually see them in LA, and SJU. Boarding was called for Business and I went straight down the jet way and into the aircraft. The interior looked clean, but very outdated. Champagne, Orange Juice, and Water were given out by one of the Business FA's.

After a short taxi to the runway we were off the ground.

The old and tired seats of the 757

Flight attendants then came around with the usual beverage service and warm nuts. Meal orders were then taken and I choose the pasta. Its the same every SXM flight Ive been on. Pasta or Chicken. And on the way back always Vegetable Lasagna or Chicken Curry.

The pasta

After the meal trays were taken the flight was pretty uneventful. The flight attendants were decent, but really didnt get out of their seats to offer anyone anything.

Soon we landed in St. Maarten, and I was off to Maho Beach the next day

After a three day vacation it was time to head back to the airport.

After arriving at SXM I noticed the huge ticket lines for flights back to the United States on American. The Business Class line only had one agent so it took about 40 minutes to get my boarding pass. After passing through security I headed to the Business Class lounge which is quite nice.

My flight to JFK arrived ontime and boarding was called for Business Class.

Aircraft 175

Upon entering through door 2L I noticed that the interior was a bit different. The side walls and bulkheads were wavy like the 737's instead of the stripe blue design and the A/C, and FA Call Button signs were switches instead of the big push in buttons. The plane still had the old seats through. After the door being shut we were given orange juice or champagne.

Takeoff

After takeoff I was offered two meal choices. Vegetable Lasagna or Chicken Curry. Same thing I had a year ago. The meal in general was horrible. American needs to improve their meal choices.

Pasta

After an uneventful flight we landed in cold New York. In all the flights were ok, but the crew on the way back was A+. However the food needs to improve.

- Something wrong with this pic, at least on my laptop!

- Yikes, I'd be going mad!!

The return meal looks better than the oubound pasta, though taste & texture are more important!

Regards

In Y from the USA to Europe on AA, I find the food mediocre. However strangely from Europe to the US, they seem to make an effort to offer an excellent meal and snack. i just do not understand their policy.

I photo shopped the goldish colors into the pic because the sun was horrible in the picture.

Wow... I would love to make a trip to St Maarten one day if I can. Is it an expensive place to be?

Understatement...

Hmm... They served you from a wheelchair? Hahahaha... Ok I get it, they were that bad.

Thanks for some great pics.
Any details on your camera gear?

It is expensive for us Americans because of the Euro. It seems like everything is five euros, like a cappuccino is five, that is almost $10.

Foreign stations usually cater differently vs US ones.
e.g. AA MIA-EZE-MIA, the catering on the EZE-MIA flight is far better vs MIA-EZE.
