Unfortuanately it is slot controlled, what they need to do is to put serious investment into the Northeast corridor. Bringing the Northeast corridor's equipment which dates back to the early 1900s to 21st Century standards would truely realize the potential of high speed rail in the US, we don't need trains traveling at 300MPH to have high speed service. What we need is to eliminate curves, ageing bridges and equipment to raise the average speed. Doing such would bring New York Penn-Boston South Station to within 2.5 hours and New York Penn-Washington Union Station to 1.45. Both times would give rail the competitive advantage when considering travel to/from the airport as well as security lines and airport congestion.
